Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits Who forgives all your iniquity, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, Who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. News for the Good of the Church Prelude Precious Lord arr. Hackworth John Hackworth, guitar Anthem Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove Cox/Lindh Opening Prayer *Hymn #289 On Pentecost They Gathered Clothed by Christ Listening for the silence of God followed by the Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Corporate Prayer of Confession The Spirit of God helps us in our weakness, interceding with sighs too deep for words. Trusting in God s grace, let us confess our sin. God of all hope and joy, we confess that we continue to live in fear. You send Your Word to enliven us, yet we remain dry bones. You send Your Spirit to empower us, yet we fail to dream new dreams. Forgive us, God of grace. Lead us according to Your way, guide us into Your truth, and deliver us from death to life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Silence for personal confession Hear the good news of God s promise: I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Sharing of Christ s Peace *Song of Praise, Hymn #453 Open Your Ears, O Faithful People Sharing Christ s Promise Sung Prayer of Illumination, #455 Listen to the Word That God Has Spoken First Lesson, The Psalter 103 The Lord works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always accuse, nor will He keep His anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His steadfast love towards those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far He removes our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear Him. For He knows how we were made; He remembers that we are dust. Second Lesson Ezekiel 17: 1-10 pages 725-726 Sermon For the Sake of His Name The Rev. Dr. Kerry Knox Westerwick A Life of Blessing *Hymn #330 Our Help Is in the Name of God Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Musical Offering Jordan arr. Johnson * Doxology Hymn #606 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Affirmation of Faith What does it mean to believe in the Holy Spirit? Apart from the Holy Spirit, our Lord can neither be loved, nor known, nor served. The Holy Spirit is the personal bond by which Jesus Christ unites us to himself, the teacher who opens our hearts to Christ, and the comforter who leads us to repentance, empowering us to live in Christ s service. As the work of the one Holy Spirit, our love, knowledge, and service of Christ are all inseparably related. Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer (Ecumenical) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours now and forever. Amen.

A Life of Blessedness *Hymn #291 Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness *Charge and Benediction Benediction Response Hymn #80 You Shall Go Out with Joy A Blessing in Music Psalm 56 Schütz Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly dove, with all Your quickening powers; kindle a flame of sacred love in these cold hearts of ours. See how we trifle here below, fond of our earthly toys; our souls, how heavenly they go, to reach eternal joys. In vain we tune our formal songs; in vain we strive to rise; hosannas languish on our tongues, and our devotion dies. Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly dove, with all Your quickening powers; kindle a flame of sacred love in these cold hearts of ours. Come, Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit.

The Vision of the Congregation: We see ourselves as the embracing arms of Jesus Christ for each other, for the community, and for the world. Welcome to our visitors! We hope that you find our congregation a welcoming one. Your presence enriches our worship of God. The flowers in the sanctuary today honor the glory of God. The first midweek dinner and speakers forum will be on June 10.
