Often I have wandered, In the endless sands of unknown deserts. Often I have wondered, How eternity stretches year after year. Often I have stood, Where the earth and sky could, For once, be one, As they come together at the horizon. I watch spell bound, As the wind kisses the sea without a sound. The beautiful ripples formed, A sweet memory, of their eternal bond. The waves silently sweep the sands, With love and tenderness of their foamy hands. Time and again, day after day, In sun and rain, in varying shades of grey. But after witnessing, Their joyous embracing, I wished to believe, That love was not meant to deceive. However, as I looked closely, I realised I had been duped cleverly. For every time the waves swept the sands With loving and tender hands, They took away a tiny part, Swallowing, what I thought they loved with their whole hearts. Time is much like the sea, It appears boundless, unrestricted and free. Yet as the sand falls, grain by grain, And the hourglass of life gives us pain. For time passes and with each second, It takes away grains from us, pretending to be our friend. The beautiful and bold, Slowly turn into the grey and old. The clear skin sparkling, Is replaced by wrinkles and hair slowly balding. Then it seems like time has flown, Remembering the ups and downs of life, it has shown, And as we near our end, We cherish our youth, and the life gracefully spent. For then, death seems like no enemy, The same way the sands give themselves up fully, To the sea which envelops them, To the time, which ends them. For it is not enough, To live a life of happiness and love? Is it not peaceful, To surrender yourself to the calm and beautiful? For time may age us, give us pain, And the sea might take away several sands of grain, But the divine union is still pure as ever, For though it hurts, its bond will last forever. I attended a story telling session at Max Muellar Bhavan on Sunday 14 /1/2018.The story was narrated by Anna Ross in the traditional Japanese Kamishibai style which is a combination of words - Kami means paper, Shibai stands for theatre. Kamishibai is a story telling technique using story boards. It is also the name for a set of picture book stories. The text is printed on the reverse to facilitate reading to and performing for an audience. The story was about a boy named Momotaro which means The peach boy. He was named Momotaro because he came out of a delicious peach floating in the river. The old couple who found him inside the peach brought him up as their son. Momotaro grew up and became very strong.however, he was very lazy and did not do any work. One day, the village was attacked by a group of demons. Momotaro fought with them and saved the villagers by defeating them. The whole story consisted of twenty picture cards. The story teller narrated the story by showing each picture card one after the other. Ms. Ross told us that in ancient Europe, storytellers used to tell stories in the same way and sold sweets and toffees to the children who gathered for the story session. BONDING WITH BOND THE MOST CELEBRATED AUTHOR RUSKIN BOND On 19th May was born a great author, Mr.Ruskin Bond is his name, Through his works among children he gained a lot of fame. He faced difficulties but of writing he kept the spirit, For the creation of Rusty, Binya and Uncle Ken to him goes the credit. In his books mountains are one of the recurring themes, For him to excel in any format of writing is not difficult, though it seems. Sahitya Akedemi, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards did not make him arrogant, And among all the children's writers, he became the most brilliant and vibrant. With happiness we welcome this great man, Who inspired me to write poems and become his greatest fan. -Bhavya Kapoor VII-C
