Text: Ephesians 2 Bethany III 6 November 2016 Holy Communion Sunday! INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Meditation 1 MICA (P) No.: 030/10/2012 MEDITATION Rev Dr Charles Tan DEAD IN TRESPASSES AND SINS Announcements 4 Worship 8 Poetry 9 Bible Memory Work 10 This Week @ Worship 11 HAVE WE TAKEN OUR SALVATION FOR GRANTED? If we are honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that we have taken our salvation too much for granted! (continued on page 2)

MEDITATION (Continued from page 1) OUR PRE-SALVATION STATE What is our pre-salvation state? The Apostle Paul wrote about this solemnly. And you He made alive, Who were dead in trespasses and sins, In which you walked according to the course of this world, According to the prince of the power of the air, The spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, Among whom also we all once conducted ourselves In the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh And of the mind, were by nature children of wrath, Just as the others. Ephesians 2:1-13 1. Dead in trespasses and sins a) Deadness- this word is most sobering b) Our trespasses and sins can cause us to be spiritually dead i) We are unable to respond to the Lord ii) iii) We are unable to find God real There is no spiritual sensitivity to the Lord at all 2. Our life s walk a) According to the course of this world (Continued on page 3) page 2

(Continued from page 2) i) We become worldly ii) We are influenced by the world so much iii) Our thoughts and pursuits are worldly iv) We are not inclined to anything spiritual b) According to the prince of the power of the air i) This is an even more sobering word ii) There is a spiritual power at work that we are not even aware of iii) The reference here is to the Evil One himself 3. Consequences a) We are called sons of disobedience b) We live according to the lusts of our flesh and mind c) We become children of wrath MEDITATION SALVATION IN THE LORD It would take no one less than the LORD God to redeem us from our sinful state. May the Spirit of God help us to understand our true spiritual state. May we desire to have the full salvation of God that He has planned for us! Write to me at: charlestan@bethanyipc.sg We are glad that you have chosen to worship the Lord Jesus with us today. May your heart be lifted up through worship and fellowship. to Bethany III page 3

POETRY CORNER I WILL NOT REMEMBER YOUR SINS With shame and sorrow, I come to Your Table, Lord, My failures, my sins make me afraid to come to God. I, even I am He who blots out your transgressions, From these words, I am filled with needed inspiration. My sins are ever before me, and I hang my head in shame, I have not kept Your word, I have dishonoured Your name. I will blot out your transgressions, for My own sake, With these words, I draw near, my deep thirst to slake. How I wish I could be stronger but I am but a mere man, I fall all too easily, and I ruin my carefully laid out plans. I will not remember your sins! What precious words of love! My heart is greatly moved to draw nearer to the Lord above! So many sins in life beset me and I am often distressed, But the Lord bids me come and find in Him the needed rest. I come to Your table, remembering the price that was paid; Upon the Lord Jesus Christ, all my transgressions are laid! How thankful we must be that we have such a salvation! Our transgressions are blotted out in His great redemption. The Lord will not remember our sins for the sake of His name, Now may we lift up our head and not be covered in shame! Inspiration: Isaiah 43:25 Charles Tan page 9
