This past weekend over 300 teenagers and 150 adults spent their time at Discovery weekend discovering God s love. Students arrived on Friday night at 6:30 PM to a gym full of inflatables, a party and flash mob lead by our high school students. After a fun time in the gym, students packed the youth center for a time of worship and lesson from one of our high school students. This was just the beginning of an unforgettable weekend. That night middle school students would pack every room on the third floor with sleeping bags and pillows and then during the day use almost every room in the church for the over 40 Disciple small groups. It was in these small groups that the mid-highs would digest the lesson they had just heard from a high school student. These small groups were also guided by our high school students. On Saturday morning, students awoke to another full day of learning about God s unending love. Our focus image for the weekend was an hourglass. The goal was to remind our students that life is a lot like time slipping through an hourglass. We are all given a bit of sand and each moment that passes we cannot get back. Throughout the weekend the students were encouraged to think about how they use their time. On Saturday afternoon we had a forgiveness service where students got to experience having their sins washed away. Then on Saturday evening, the Sanctuary was full, standing room only, with the students families and church friends there to show love to our students. The full Sanctuary was a remarkable display of love. On Sunday morning we packed up our stuff and headed to the Hayes family farm in Shelby County. God blessed us with a beautiful day to compliment the amazing space at the farm. There students heard a talk on the Holy Spirit, received letters from loved ones and were challenged by two of our high school students to live a joyful life for God. Students were then given the opportunity to respond to that challenge by taking the sand that they were given earlier that afternoon and pouring it back into a cross. This symbolized the students giving God back their life and their time. Then we packed up the over 40 vehicles used and headed back to Trinity to join up with family in the gym to watch a wonderful recap video. God did some amazing things this past weekend. I am so thankful that I was able to be a part. David Thompson, Minister of Students information for guests & new members Welcome to Trinity United Methodist Church! Holy Communion During Lent Lenten Sermon Series The Lord s Prayer It will be offered at the Maundy Thursday service on April 5. Communion is also offered during Lent following all Sunday worship services in the Sanctuary at 9:45 AM and 12:00 PM. Teach us to pray! The disciples asked Jesus one day... Perhaps they asked this question because they saw the centrality and power of prayer in Jesus life. Jesus responded to their request by giving us the words of the Lord s Prayer. In these words we find a model for all prayer. Bishop Will Willmon has written that prayer is bending ourselves toward God. The Lord s Prayer is a lifelong act of bending our lives toward God. In learning to pray this Prayer, we are being formed and shaped by God in particular ways. During Lent we will use the Lord s Prayer as the central theme of our worship and reflections. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in the church office. This Week s God Moment...there is no way to describe the feeling Discovery 2012 was AMAZING! My daughter, Karli, came home Sunday evening filled with the Holy Spirit. She was so excited and couldn t quit talking about her experiences. She woke up Monday morning still radiating with joy from the weekend of experiencing God s Love. She was so overwhelmed by the love shown to her by written letters, kind words, hugs and by the amount of parents and friends that were at the Saturday evening Prayer Service. There is no way to describe the feeling that swept through the wave of kids and parents during moments at Discovery. During prayer, songs and even watching a worship session over the internet at home, I would get goose bumps and have tears well in my eyes. All I can say is that I felt God. The entire weekend was ONE HUGE GOD MOMENT! Ronda Reynolds (Karli, Carson, Kaden & Cele s Mom) 4 What is a God Moment? God Moments are those moments that we can see and feel God s presence in a special and/or profound way. God is with us 24-7 but sadly many God Moments go unnoticed by us. Sometimes they knock us upside the head or heart when we are not even looking for them. But most of the time we need to position ourselves by looking for them and opening our hearts and minds to avail ourselves to those moments. Rev. Suzanne Pruitt
