Page four Dear Padre, Does the Church give guidelines for what we should and shouldn t watch on TV and in theaters? The Communications Department of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops provides Catholics, especially families, with information they can use to evaluate entertainment media programming from a Catholic perspective. Along with its Family Guide for Using Media, it provides up-to-date movie reviews and ratings through the Catholic News Service (catholicnews.com) and access to archives dating from 2010 into the 1930s. As part of forming their children in the faith, parents must educate them about the media s influence, monitor the content each member interacts with, and model appropriate media use. All our media choices print, digital, or otherwise should affirm and support Christian values. Consider these questions: Does this piece portray human life as a gift from God? Is sexuality linked to life and marriage? How is dying presented? Does it promote healthy friendships and lasting commitments within marriage? Does it affirm gratitude, stewardship or charity, and obedience to proper authorities? Does it connect moral consequences with the characters actions? Is exploitation, oppression, or neglect of any group condoned? Is respect shown for a variety of cultures? Does it foster a sense of the divine, of human destiny beyond this life, and of our obligation to forgive and seek forgiveness? It is advisable to balance your use of suitable media with human interaction.. OUR LENTEN SACRIFICE DAYS OF ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent, and Good Friday for all who have reached their 14th birthday, no meat can be taken. DAYS OF LENT Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for all who have reached their 18th birthday, and have not yet reached their 60th birthday, a limit of one full meatless meal. WEEKDAYS OF LENT No obligation to fast, however, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommend. EASTER DUTY OBLIGATION Must be made from the First Sunday in Lent (March 1st) through Trinity Sunday, (June 11th). SELF DENIAL Is encouraged on a voluntary basis. Acts may include daily Mass, spiritual study, Lenten Devotions, the Rosary, Stations of the Cross and deeds of Mercy and kindness. We all know it can be difficult at times to resist temptation. So many things require our time and attention. And so many more things call to us with the voice of persuasion promising to make life lest painful, less onerous or less costly. The struggle to make the right choices can be difficult. There is a Wonderful quote, attributed to many different people over the years, that wisely states: Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate. Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate. Ten words so simple, so seemingly easy to follow, and yet we still falter. Adam and ve faltered. Given everything in the Garden of Eden, they committed the first sin of pride, which was disobedience. They gave in to the temptation before them and set the course of Creation on a new trajectory. They sacrificed the permanent and eternal unity with God on the altar of the immediate possibility false as it was of being and have more. But Paul tells us today that though sin entered the world and death came to all. God did not withhold his grace from us and sent his only Son into the world to redeem us. Jesus countered that first sin of disobedience with an act of perfect obedience an obedience that would resist every temptation throughout the whole of his earthly life. This Son, though divine, was also human and the devil knew it. We are given three examples today of the devil trying to tempt him away from his mission with things that in their immediacy perhaps seemed far more enticing than his intended path. But Jesus never gave in. He refused to let his perfect love be clouded by the empty promises of the devil. He refused to sacrifice the eternal on the altar of the immediate. During Lent let us in a special way look to Jesus and ask him for help each day. EUCHARISTIC FAST 1 HOUR FROM FOODS AND LIQUIDS. Water and medicine never break the fast.

Carleton J. Boone on the keyboard and sing-a-long..!!! Tickets will be available before/after each Mass beginning February 25th. This event is open to all parishioners. Pope Francis Speaks to our hearts!! JESUS WANTS US FREE Jesus does not want selfish Christians who follow their own ego, who do not talk to God. Nor dies he want weak Christians, Christians who have no will of their own, remote-controlled Christians incapable of creativity, who always seek to connect with the will of someone else and are not free. Jesus want us free. And where is this freedom created? It is created in dialogue with God in the person s own conscience. If a Christian is unable to speak with God, if he cannot hear God in his own conscience, he is not free; he is not free.
