ST. TERESA of AVILA STUDENT CENTER PAGE 2 1511 Laporte Ave. Valparaiso, IN 46383 Fr. Chris Corner Dear friends in the Lord, At the beginning of Lent, we started a preaching series entitled Teach us to pray. First, we defined prayer as responding to the God who is already there and receiving what He wants to bestow upon us. Then we looked at prayer as a covenant relationship and we went over the five forms of prayer (Adoration, Petition, Intercession, Thanksgiving, and Praise) as well as the three expressions of prayer (vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation). We learned Matthew Kelly s Prayer Process: Gratitude, Awareness, Significant moments, Peace, Freedom, Others, and an Our Father, in order to give some structure to our prayer. Then, we explored our spiritual senses and how we can use them in imaginative prayer. Last week we focused on three principles of discernment in prayer: Is it consistent? What is the direction of my life? And What are its fruits? This week as we finish our series we are taking a look at what to do when we find ourselves with dryness in prayer or distraction in prayer. At the end of the day it is important to realize that both dryness and distractions are very normal experiences in prayer and the most important thing is to persevere in them and remain faithful to your prayer. In order to guide you throughout this week, below is a list of Scripture passages to pray with each day. There are some reflection questions to help you discover what the Lord is saying to you and then you can write it down in your journal. Read the passage once to become familiar with the text. Slowly read the passage a second time. Very, very slowly read the passage a third time and pay attention to which word, words, or phrases captures your attention or tugs at your heart. Let Jesus speak to you and touch your heart What is he saying to you in this passage? Day 1: Luke 15:11-24 Day 2: Luke 7:36-50 Day 3: Ezekiel 36:23-29 Day 4: 1 Peter 2:21-25 Day 5: Psalm 118 Day 6: John 21:15-19 Day 7: Reread your journal from prayer and thank God for all the graces. Chris Corner Continued After your prayer, write down in your journal the strongest thought or feeling that occurred in your prayer. Then, write down the one thing that you sensed the Lord was trying to tell you. Finally, write down what you ended your prayer wanting. Faithfully Yours in the Lord, Fr. Chris

It's a race around Valpo where competing teams of college students complete fun challenges. The winning team ultimately wins a cash prize and serious bragging rights. We are looking for drivers and homes to host challenges. This is an event that many college students look forward to every year, largely because of the fun they have with YOU, the community. The race takes place on Saturday, April 22nd, from 6-9pm. This is a great way to meet college students, get involved, and have a blast at the same time! Please email Scott Chuchla if you are interested in helping by driving or hosting a challenge at your home. saintt.campusministry@gmail.com St. T s Coffee Blends! During the nearly two years of my retirement, you, your faith, friendship and love, have been a wonderful part of my ministry. And so, I invite you to share with me a liturgy of praise and thanksgiving on Sunday, April 30, at 11 AM. A reception and luncheon will follow the Mass. If you plan to come to the meal, please email the parish secretary at saintt.office@gmail.com with the number of guests that will be attending. Their goal is to provide a safe and welcoming place during the day where the basic needs can be met. Participants will also be involved in case management, counseling, and group classes.

ST. TERESA of AVILA STUDENT CENTER PAGE 4 1511 Laporte Ave. Valparaiso, IN 46383 Spirituality Easter Events Holy Thursday Mass, April 13 7:00pm Good Friday Tenebrae Service, April 14 3:00pm Tenebrae is Latin for "shadows" or "darkness". It is a religious service celebrated on Good Friday. Tenebrae is distinctive for its gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are chanted or recited. The Tenebrae Service commemorates the sufferings and death of Christ. It is a moving way to experience the events of Good Friday. Good Friday Services, April 14 7:00pm Easter Vigil, April 15 7:30pm Easter Sunday, April 16 & 11:00am We close out the Purification & Enlightenment phase of the RCIA process this Tuesday evening as Deacon Jim Caristi will break open the Paschal Mystery for us. Our RCIA group will spend this Sunday on retreat. Please keep us in your prayers. May the Holy Spirit spend the day with us and complete our preparations with love and grace as we head into Holy Week. Thank you for all your prayers and support, and may God bless you all!
