REFLECTIONS The service of the Lord's Day is God's action: he calls us into his presence; he declares our sins forgiven; he speaks his word of comfort, rebuke and encouragement; he feeds us at his table; and he sends us back into the world. Of course, at each point, we also respond: when God invites us in, we enter; when he [forgives] our sins, we praise his grace in his Son; we...believe his promises; we eat and drink at his banquet; and when he sends us out, we go. But these are responses and depend on the Spirit's work. Peter Leithart The primary focus of worship is not me, the worshiper, but God, who redeems the world. Worship does God's story, and God, who is the subject of worship, repeats, so to speak, his own story. God, through worship, works on me through his story to elicit praise on my lips and obedience in my living. When this happens, worship takes place. Robert Webber Worship is only secondarily and reflexively humans seeking God; it is, first of all and creatively, the divine Father, through Jesus the Truth, by the Fountain Spirit the one God seeking humans and moving them upward to him. Frederick Dale Bruner Through worship, God trains his people to take the right things for granted. Stanley Hauerwas and Samuel Wells from The Gift of the Church and the Gifts God Gives It

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Pastor: For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Pastor: Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! All: For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. C O N F E S S I O N SCRIPTURE READING: Deuteronomy 6:10-15 10 And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, 11 to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive 12 trees that you did not plant and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the Lord, 13 who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. It is the Lord your God you 14 shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. You shall not go after other gods, 15 the gods of the peoples who are around you for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. Leader: All: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN: O, Lord, we are a forgetful people, and we live among people who have forgotten Your Word, Your ways, and Your glory. We have forgotten the greatness of Your power in creating us and the world in which we live. We have forgotten the greatness of our Lord humiliating Himself among us for our benefit. We have forgotten the greatness of the work You have done in our hearts to bring us to Yourself. We have forgotten the greatness of Your promise to deliver us from the power of sin in our hearts. O, Lord, forgive our forgetfulness and help us to remember Your love toward us because of Jesus Christ, the Savior of sinners; Your mercy toward us because of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God; Your grace toward us because of Jesus Christ, our righteousness. By Your Holy Spirit, remind us continually of our indebtedness to You. In Jesus name, Amen. SILENT REFLECTION AND CONFESSION WORDS OF ASSURANCE & PEACE OF GOD: Ephesians 2:11-13 11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called the uncircumcision by 12 what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the 13 covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Pastor: The peace of God be with you. And also with you. HYMN: 307 Nothing but the Blood 3
C O M M I T M E N T OFFERTORY PRAYER OFFERTORY Presentation of tithes & offerings Give Me Jesus DOXOLOGY (Hymnal, page 731) AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: from The Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter XIV: Of Saving Faith Leader: Leader: How is saving faith given and received? The grace of faith, whereby the elect are enabled to believe to the saving of their souls, is the work of the Spirit of Christ in their hearts, and is ordinarily wrought by the ministry of the Word, by which also, and by the administration of the sacraments, and prayer, it is increased and strengthened. What does this saving faith accomplish in the believer? By this faith, a Christian believes to be true whatsoever is revealed in the Word, for the authority of God Himself is speaking therein. The principal acts of saving faith are accepting, receiving, and resting. RESPONSE: 735 Gloria Patri MISSIONS MOMENT PRAYER OF INTERCESSION HYMN: 468 My Faith Has Found a Resting Place 4
P R E A C H I N G O F T H E W O R D SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 6:1-10 1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; 2 and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory! 4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house 5 was filled with smoke. And I said: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the 6 Lord of hosts! Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal 7 that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: Behold, 8 this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for. And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, 9 Here I am! Send me. And he said, Go, and say to this people: Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive. 10 Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed. SERMON: Rev. Todd Gothard HYMN: 103 Holy God, We Praise Your Name vs. 1-2 RESPONSIVE READING: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up unto the Lord.
