Thoughts for Toddlers 1. Order, routine is good; Small funnel is good. 2. Disobedience is to be expected and serious. 3. No from them is treason, to be expected and serious. 4. Discipline should sting. 5. Build margin to discipline into your schedule. 6. Crying is ok. 7. No from you is fine. 8. Limit media use. 9. Amount of Action > Amount of Talk

Help! Where do I start? 1. Slow down and observe. 2. Call the legislature into session. Pray for wisdom and priorities. 3. Talk to them individually. 4. Post the consequences and rewards. 5. Attack the sin not the person. 6. Follow through with the consequences without anger.

Thoughts for 7-12s 1. Enjoy! If you have done hard work in early years, these are great years. If not, not too late. 2. Connect to the heart Dates. 3. Keep going with the consequences. 4. Place a high value on family unity meanness not allowed, chores for meanness to the other, etc. 5. Make sure to put off/made new/put on 6. Amount of Action = Amount of Instruction

Thoughts for Older Teens 12-13 starts adult in training. Are you making room to listen? - Dates Are you asking questions to understand your young adult? Are you picking your battles? Are you bringing grace, the word of God to bear? Do they know you love them no matter what? Do they know that working leads to eating, You don t work, you don t eat. 1 Thes 2:10 Amount of Action < Amount of Talking

Proverbs on Discipline To discipline is to love Proverbs 13:14 To discipline brings hope (19:18), wisdom (23:13), and saves from hell (23:14) To not discipline is to put to death (19:18), to hate (23:14) Will give the parents rest (29:17, will not disgrace you (29:15) Objections overcome He will not die (23:13)

Discipline Procedure 1. Not angry 2. Alone 3. With Confession/Instruction What did you do wrong? 4. Statement I am not disciplining you because I am angry but because God tells me to do this to train your heart. 5. Discipline 6. Break to gain his composure. 7. Let s pray and ask the Lord to forgive you for. And let s ask him to give you help to do ++++++ next time. 8. He prays. 9. You pray thanking God for him, this lesson, the blood of Christ, the power to change.

A Few More Words on Discipline Hebrews 12:6ff. The Lord disciplines those he loves. Fathers. V.7 Results in respect not alienation. V.8 For a short time v.10 As they thought best. V.10 (Not perfect) Painful. v11 Yields peace and righteousness later. V.11 To train in holiness v.11 Aimed at the heart. V.5, 11 Motive is love not anger, revenge.
