Should Christians still tithe? YES! The first question is this, Has God commanded that I tithe? The second question is, Should I tithe?

1. We tithe because the first and the best belong to the Lord.

Prosperity Syllabus By: John Osteen 1. Since God gave Heaven's best, He will freely give us whatever we need to meet our needs and to evangelize the world. He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:32 2. You have to be blessed before you can be a blessing. Now the Lord had said to Abram: Get out of your country, from your family and from your father s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. Genesis 12:1-2 3. When God blesses us, we will be richly rewarded in all areas of life. Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. Genesis 13:2 4. Abraham was a tither and honored God with his money, and God blessed him. Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him a tithe of all. Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself. But Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich. Genesis 14:18-23 5. Jacob made a vow to tithe and God blessed him with riches. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You. Genesis 28:20-22 Then Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me, Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you : I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant; for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies. Genesis 32:9-10 6. The tithe is the first tenth of your income. It belongs to the Lord and He considers it as holy unto Him. And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord s. It is holy to the Lord. Leviticus 27:30 7. God s dream is for you to have a house, to multiply what you have, and that you lack nothing. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land, which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your

flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end then you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:7-18 8. Always put God first even when you re in need, and God will see you through any situation. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink. And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. So she said, As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said to her, Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth. So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord, which He spoke by Elijah. I Kings 17:1-16 9. If you realize, compared to God and your relationship to Him, money is nothing only a vehicle to spread the Gospel, then you will come into a place of great authority. If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up [and restored]; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tents, and place your gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks [considering it of little value], and make the Almighty your gold and your precious silver, then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God. You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows. You will also decide and decree a thing, and it will be established for you; and the light [of God s favor] will shine upon your ways. When you are cast down and humbled, you will speak with confidence, and the humble person He will lift up and save. He will even rescue the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; and he will be rescued through the cleanness of your hands. Job 22:23-30 (AMP) 10. God takes no pleasure in poverty and lack in your life. He takes pleasure when you prosper. Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. Psalm 35:27 11. When you fear God and delight greatly in His commandments which includes tithing you will have wealth and riches in your house. Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Psalm 112:1-3 2

12. God wants your life to be filled with plenty, but He won t fill them until you honor Him with the first fruits of all your increase the tithe. Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 13. Many people in the world are rich, but have great sorrow. When God blesses you, there s no sorrow. The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 14. When you give, you activate God s spiritual law. By helping others, you yourself are blessed. Give freely and become wealthier; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 11:24-25 15. The first tenth belongs to God, but God wants you to use the 90% wisely. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22 16. The money you give to God will come back to you in many ways. Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, for you do not know what evil will be on the earth. If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie. He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap. Ecclesiastes 11:1-4 17. Let s put God s house first and our money will go much further. Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins? Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways! You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes. Haggai 1:4-6 18. We are in a time of great shaking and the great shaking of all nations. Let s use our money to spread the Gospel and bring glory into God s house. For thus says the Lord of hosts: Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory, says the Lord of hosts. The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of hosts. The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, says the Lord of hosts. Haggai 2:6-9 19. Your tithes and offerings will move the hands of God. He will open up the windows of Heaven and pour out blessings upon you. Yet from the days of your fathers you have gone away from My ordinances and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you said, In what way shall we return? Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, In what way have we robbed You? In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field, says the Lord of hosts; And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land, says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:7-12 3

20. We must master our money and not let it master us. The money we have is not only for ourselves, but to be used to lay up treasure in Heaven. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:19-24 21. You need many things food, clothing, shelter, rent, and all your bills to be paid. Put God first in your living and your giving, and all these things shall be added unto you. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 22. Notice what Jesus, the Head of the Church, says in this scripture, YES, YOU SHOULD TITHE. What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. Matthew 23:23 (NLT) 23. God s dream is for you to have abundance. Handle what you have wisely and He will bless you abundantly. Then he ordered, Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. Matthew 25:28-29 24. Jesus said we shall receive our blessings in this present time. Thank God we re going to Heaven, but we can receive His blessings while on earth. Then Peter began to say to Him, See, we have left all and followed You. So Jesus answered and said, Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions and in the age to come, eternal life. Mark 10:28-30 25. God s Word says, When you give, it will be given back to you. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 26. We can use our money unrighteous mammon to help win souls and have people welcome us into Heaven. Jesus told His disciples: There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer. The manager said to himself, What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I m not strong enough to dig, and I m ashamed to beg I know what I ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses. So he called in each one of his master s debtors. He asked the first, How much do you owe my master? Nine hundred gallons of olive oil, he replied. The manager told him, Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty. Then he asked the second, And how much do you owe? A thousand bushels of wheat, he replied. He told him, Take your bill and make it eight hundred. The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the 4

people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else s property, who will give you property of your own? No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Luke 16:1-13 27. God will give seed to the sower and multiply the seed that is sown. Only the money you sow into the Kingdom is multiplied. Remember this a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. II Corinthians 9:6-10 28. The Philippians were investing in Paul s missionary work, and he assured them that God would supply all their needs. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 29. From birth to death we handle lots of money. Let s use it for God. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. I Timothy 6:7-10 30. As you are blessed more and more, guard yourself to use your money wisely. Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, or to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. I Timothy 6:17-19 31. Remember, God is a rewarder. You must believe this and act upon it. He doesn t take away. He wants to add to and multiply. He will reward you for being faithful with your money. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 5
