1. Mosque of Al-Ghamama HISTORICAL PLACES TO VISIT is one of the oldest mosques in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, located in the place believed to be where the Islamic prophet Muhammad performed an Eid prayer in the year 631. Nowadays, the mosque is one of the historical relics of Madinah. 2. The Beautiful Names of Allah Exhibition This permanent exhibition located next to Al Masjid an-nabawi showcases a presentation of the various Names of Allah. Visitors get a chance to immerse in the beauty of the names that are presented in an artistic modern style. 3. Ghar Al Sajda Its also called Cave of Bani Haram in some of the historical books. It is also believed to be the place where the Islamic prophet Muhammad stopped by for prayer during digging of a trench before the battle where miraculous event occurred. 4. The Seven Mosques (Al-Masajid As-Sab ah) or Sab u Masajid is a complex of six small historic and often visited mosques in the city of Madinah, Saudi Arabia. The complex consists of six mosques in spite of the name Sab ah means seven, because it included the Masjid al-qiblatayn originally. 5. Hejaz Railway Museum This museum showcases one of the oldest railways in old Hejaz that used to connect Damascus and Madinah passing through Jordan, Sahari, Tabouk mountains and Hejaz mountains. It is 1,329 km long and was established by Sultan Abed Al Hameed the second in 1900. Now open to the public as a museum, it displays the history of the station and Madinah. 6 7
6. Masjid al-qiblatayn The Mosque of the Two Qiblas in Madinah uniquely houses two prayer niches (mihrabs), one niche faces Jerusalem (Al-Aqsa Mosque) and the other one faces Mecca (Kaaba). Historically important for Muslims this mosque is accentuated by the design of twin minarets and twin domes which stand out with their beautiful Islamic design 7. Palace of Sa id Ibn al- As This palace was built by Sa id Ibn al- As when he was governor of Madinah under Caliph Mu awiya. It is located in Wadi al-aqeeq that runs along the western boundary of Madinah. 11. King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran Is the largest printing plant located in Madinah, Saudi Arabia that publishes the Qur an in Arabic and other languages. The company produces about 10 million copies a year since 1985, and made over 10 million books of the Qur an that has been distributed all around the world. 12. Al Noor Mall One of the biggest malls in Madinah, Al Noor Mall houses a large number of international brands and a wide range of restaurants in addition to the Sparky s entertainment center making it ideal for families with children. 13. Dar Al Madinah Museum Dar Al Madinah is considered the first and the biggest museum showcasing the civil and historical architecture of Madinah. Reflecting Islamic heritage, the museum showcases in details the prophet s life journey and the culture and civilization in the city. 10. Uhud Mountain This mountain gained importance in the Uhud battle that took place between Muslims and the Meccans. It is believed that quite a few of the Prophet s companions were killed during this battle, most notable being the uncle of the Prophet, Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib 9. Uhud martyrs cemetery The Martyrs of Uhud Cemetery contains the bodies of 70 Shuhada (martyrs) who were killed during the Battle of Uhud, the most notable being the uncle of the Prophet, Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib. 15. Museum of Sheikh Salama bin rashdan Al-Juhani This museum is an ancient heritage museum and one of the biggest traditional museums in Madinah. It has collectibles with historical significance and showcases the old Saudi heritage beautifully 14. Quba Mosque The oldest mosque in the world that dates to the lifetime of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. its first stones were positioned by Muhammad as soon as he arrived on his emigration from the city of Mecca to Madinah. The mosque is well known with its unique Islamic design and high minarets and a fascinating interior. 8 9
TRAVELING TIPS FOR VISITORS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS HEALTH TIPS FOR MADINAH GUESTS Free wheelchairs are available for visitors of Al-Masjid an-nabawi during their stay in Madinah. Take precautions when consuming food and drinks outside; ensure vegetables and fruits are thoroughly washed. Folding chairs are available for visitors with weak physical abilities. Avoid exposure to the sun for long periods, and try staying away from crowded places as much as possible. There is a section for deaf, male visitors in Al Masjid an-nabawi where the Khutbah is translated in sign language. However, please note that sign language differs from one country to another i.e. the Arabic sign language is different from that used in the USA, Pakistan or other countries. Get enough rest and sleep. Wear light cotton clothes which are loose and light colored. Hotels and buses do not support visitors with special needs, therefore it is ideal to let your hotel know of your needs in advance or have a private assistant throughout the trip. Have plenty of fluids on hot days, especially on the Day of Arafah. 10 11
