Christ Church is Making Connections & Offering Opportunities for Faith, Love & Service Weekly Update - November 21 Christ United Methodist Church Harlem & Saratoga Roads Amherst, NY 14226 Thankful A Word From Pastor Daven A common experience for many gathered around tables on Thursday will be to share something for which they are thankful. I thought I would share some of the many things I am thankful for here at Christ UMC. I am thankful for the ways I see the Holy Spirit active in our midst. I am thankful for updates and freshening. I am thankful for the gifted people of this community. I am thankful for our tireless staff. I am thankful for all the fun and laughter you have brought to my life. I am thankful for the warmth and hospitality you have shared. I am thankful to be a part of a community that challenges me and encourages my spiritual growth. I am thankful for the many people who use our facility throughout every week. I am thankful for the music which fills our space. I am thankful for you. Happy Thanksgiving! Joy! We celebrate with David and Lisa Lawson on the recent engagement of their daughter Jessica Lawson to Jonathan Owens! Joy! Courtney Cataudella received word that she has passed the bar exam! Courtney is currently working as an immigration lawyer in NYC. Joy! Amy Schroeder, violinist, along with the Attaca Quartet based in New York City, played at the recent marriage ceremony of Gwyneth Paltrow. Joy! David Brown received the honor award from the UB Dental School! The honor award is given to those whose enthusiastic endeavors have helped to promote and continue growth, development, and success of the UB School of Dental Medicine. David is an `83 alumni of the school and serves as Director of Admissions as well as an instructor at the UB Dental School. Congratulations David!

Food & Supplies Needed for Local Families In addition to the food that goes to local food pantries, Christ Church serves local families in need. The following items are needed: cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, personal hygiene products, deodorant, and soap. The Tiger's Den is collecting canned vegetables (peas, corn, yams, beets) in November. Collecting carts at Christ Church are marked for Tiger's Den Food Pantry and for local families. Giving Tree The Giving Tree will be up in Crafts Hall starting this Sunday! You re invited to take a tag(s) and return your gift(s) (unwrapped, with tag attached) by December 9. This year s gift recipients are: Gateway Longview, the SPCA, Haven House, Primera UMC (Jehovah Jireh). If you have any questions, please contact Diane Klenk at 651-0236. Let us remember those who are less fortunate at this time of the year and make their lives more joyful! Thank you for your help! UMC #GivingTuesday On November 27, United Methodists will once again come together to support the work of Advance missionaries and projects on UMC #GivingTuesday. Visit: http://www.umcmission.org/give Cookie & Candy Sale The Outreach Team will host a Candy and Baked Goods fundraiser on Sunday, December 9. Donations of baked goods and candy will be much appreciated. Please bring your goodies to church by December 7 for plating. All proceeds support the many outreach missions of our church.

Exploring Sunday Scriptures Every Tuesday at Noon, Pastor Daven leads a time exploring the upcoming Sunday s Scripture. This will provide context to the Scripture(s) being explored and ultimately enrich the experience of worship itself. All are welcome anytime! The Twelve Voices of Christmas As you experience twelve different perspectives of the story of Christ's coming, your understanding of Christmas will be enriched. See the blessing, wonder, joy and peace in a fresh way as you celebrate the birth of our Savior! This study will be led by Paula Kreib and offered on Thirstaid Thursdays from 1-2:30p.m., through December 20. Red Cross BloodMobile The Health and Wellness Team is sponsoring a blood drive on Black Friday Nov. 23 rd from Noon to 4 p.m. in Crafts Hall. There will be pie for all donors as well as entry in a daily drawing for a $50 Visa card. For appointments (or if you have questions) call Geoff Hill at 316-1522. Music & Meditation Fridays at 5:30p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, 21 30 minutes of meditative songs, Scripture reading and prayer in a quiet, candlelit setting. Give yourself the gift of quiet reflection in the midst of the Advent-Christmas season. Feasting on the Word Friday, December 7 6 p.m. A devotional meal focused on Scripture RSVP to the church office (cumc350@gmail.com) Mind/Body Connection Yoga Fridays, 7-8 p.m. in the Family Room Join Ryan Meegan, certified Bikram Yoga instructor, this Friday to practice conscious breathing and body postures (including chair yoga) that bridge the mind/body connection, draw you closer to God and help you enjoy life more. Suitable for all abilities.
