God bless each of you as you participate in this mission. ONE OF OUR OWN IS TURNING 100 YEARS OLD SOON! Mr. Lester Klinker will soon be celebrating his 100 th birthday on Monday, September 4 th. He is not well enough for a big celebration but we have been told that he loves cards! Let us all get busy and send him a birthday card in hopes that he will receive 100 cards for his 100 th birthday. They can be mailed at any time and his family will save them for his special day. Address is: 314 Knolls Of Mayo, Roxboro, NC 27574. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. BACKPACK PALS NEWS The Long Memorial volunteers have completed the school year program at Stories Creek Elementary. We delivered 30 packs this year to at-risk students who needed a continued source of good nutrition over the weekend. This helps secure better success in school and normal development for them in many ways. The following ladies packed at Beulah Baptist Association on Wednesday afternoons: Carolyn Long, Frances Friday, and Jean Andrews. Their dedication is wonderful. The following volunteers picked up containers on Wednesdays or delivered the containers of food on Thursdays to the school. Jona Fitzgerald, Will Carver, Laura Atkins, Robert and Cheryl Allen, Stephanie Linville, Al Taylor, Michelle Young, Kerry and Sherry MacIntosh. This was a once-a-month commitment and they performed this responsibility beautifully. We are losing one of our volunteers next year, so if you can dedicate one day a month (Thursday) to this important mission, please contact me for information. This is a quick trip that you can share with a friend if you wish. Partnerships work well. Long Memorial has reached out to the program for several years and continues to make donations from Sunday School classes, circles, Vacation Bible school, individuals, UMW, UMM and more. This is a wonderful response from a wonderful congregation. Cheryl Allen #336-322-0259

August 18 th 9:00am-12:30 in the Harris Fellowship Hall CONVERSATION and LUNCH NAVIGATING HEALTHCARE IN OUR LATER YEARS As another way of loving our neighbors, the witness team is bringing together some local experts in the healthcare field to share insights into successfully navigating some of the challenges we face in our later years. Thanks to the generosity of Roxboro Nursing Center, you are invited to stay for a complementary lunch following the session. Our topics will include: wellness, advanced directives, how to choose a plan of care best for you, hospice and other community resources, and a discussion about end-of-life planning (including funeral planning). Even if you have a good working knowledge of these topics, I encourage you to attend to make sure you are aware of any changes in the process since you made your plans. If you are caring for aging relatives, this would be a great place to begin to connect with resources you may need in the future. Please contact the church office to make reservations. THE UNITED METHODIST MEN HAND IN HAND 11 years of Partnership As we start our 11 th year volunteering with South Elementary, we are requesting school supplies for the upcoming school year. Items requested include: wide ruled notebook paper, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, pencils, pens, book bags, and items such as Kleenex or hand sanitizer for the classroom. I am also looking for some additional volunteers, especially tutors. If you have 30 minutes a week, once a week, you can give to a child during the school day from the months of October through May, you fit the bill. If you are willing to help with food donation or treat donation for teachers, encouragement cards you also, fit the bill. We gladly accept monetary donations to help with teacher appreciation events or student events. Thank for supporting this ministry. We really need people to keep this ministry going. Please prayerfully consider a role at South Elementary this school year. Below you will find my phone number and e-mail address. Please contact me about this if you can help. Amy Bayliff 336-597-0761 jbayliff5344@charter.net THE SUNDAY SCHOOL PROMOTION BREAKFAST SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 th 9:45 a.m. EVERYONE IS INVITED FOR BREAKFAST AND FELLOWSHIP. WE WILL RECOGNIZE ALL SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS AND THEN DISMISS TO OUR CLASSES... Come Join Us!

August 13, 2017 FINANCIAL UPDATE Here is a summary of our financial year for the first six months. Annual Budget is $432,654 Scheduled giving through end of June $216,327 (1/2 of annual amount) Actual giving through June $172,820 Difference $ 43,505 Two things to keep in mind: First, we know that, for many reasons, our end of year giving is significantly larger than giving during the summer months. With your continued faithfulness that giving will help close the gap. Second, our giving- to-date this year is about $15,000 less than a year ago at this time. I recommend we quickly make up this $15,000 summer drop through a little extra giving over the next couple of weeks. God blesses us beyond imagination, so take action today and avoid creating an unnecessarily stressful situation later in the year! Now, lest you think financial reports equal bad news, here is some good news. Rejoice! We have managed to reduce our capital debt to under $300,000! What once seemed daunting, now feels well within our grasp. We have no idea the amazing work God is able to do in us and through us. May we recognize it here, and give thanks as it is happening before our very eyes.
