Leader: Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; People: Righteousness and peace will kiss each other. Leader: Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, People: And righteousness will look down from the sky. Leader: The Lord will give what is good; our land will yield its increase. Offertory Prayer Sally Shaver Offertory Prelude in Classic Style Gordon Young During the following hymn, children (ages first grade and younger) are invited to go to Children s Time. Parents may pick up their children in the Children s Wing after worship. Presentation of the Offering OLD 100TH Hymn 592 How Can I Keep from Singing As our offering is presented back to God, we will sing the following doxology: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God, above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen! Scripture Reading Matthew 14:22-33 Rev. Spears-Newsome We affirm the reading of Scripture with the following response: Reader: The word of God for us, the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Prayers of the People and Lord s Prayer Rev. Wesley Spears-Newsome Anthem Precious Lord, Take My Hand arr. Jack Schrader We affirm each prayer with the following response: Leader: Lord, in your mercy... People: Hear our prayer. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light: Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home. When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near, When my life is almost gone, Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall: Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

Announcements and Upcoming Events Business Meeting August 13 There is a business meeting tonight, August 13, at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will vote to approve the Budget and Nominating reports. Copies of both reports are available in the Narthex. New Time for Faith Formation/Coffee Hour Starting Sunday, September 3, we are moving our Faith Formation hour back 15 minutes to 9:30 to 10:30 instead of 9:45 to 10:45. This will align the adult and youth schedule with the Children's Ministry schedule and allow all of us a little more breathing room before worship to use the restroom, get where we need to go, and enjoy coffee and conversation. It will also provide us a designated time to invite guests to get plugged in to the life of the congregation. We will have coffee set up in the Narthex by 10:30 and invite you all to enjoy some time in fellowship before worship begins at 11 am. Feel free to use our outside space or to spill into the Sanctuary. The Parlor will also be available for children as a hangout space. We hope this small adjustment will help us build deeper relationships and connect our Faith Formation time with community worship more intentionally! Ready for Worship Class Last Sunday and today, August 13, our rising 2nd graders are participating in the Children's Ministry's Ready for Worship class from 9:45 to 10:45 in the Children's Wing. Our rising 2nd graders, who up to this point have been leaving for Children's Time, will prepare to stay for all of the worship service by learning about various elements of worship at GFBC. Make sure to welcome them as they make the transition! Current Sermon Series Getting to Know Jesus Again for the First Time August 6 There s Always Enough Matthew 14:13-21 August 13 There s No Reason to Fear Matthew 14:22-33 August 20 There s Healing in Unexpected Places Matthew 15:21-28 Promotion Sunday August 27 Parents, kids, and teachers are invited to join us in the Fellowship Hall from 9:45 to 10:45 on Sunday, August 27, as we celebrate another year of Children's Ministry at GFBC! We will have bagels, juice, and all the information you need for the upcoming year. In worship we will recognize our rising 3rd and 4th graders who will stay in the full worship service this year and bless the backpacks of all the kids before a new school year. Don't miss it! Proposed Change to the GFBC Bylaws During the July 30 business meeting, we reviewed the following proposed bylaw change. The church will vote on the proposed change at the business meeting tonight, August 13, at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The Deacon Board chair shall be elected to a term of two years. The ministry chairs shall be elected to a term of two years, except when filling an unexpired term. In that case, the ending term of service will be specified when the name is presented for election. At-large members shall be elected to a term of one year. There will be a minimum of seventeen members on the Deacon Board. Proposed The Deacon Board shall include a chair, the ministry chairs and a minimum of two at-large members. Get Excited for Ministry Mondays! Starting in September, we are going to have Ministry Mondays on a quarterly basis instead of scheduling monthly committee meetings at various times. All committees will meet in the Fellowship Hall at round tables. Ministry Mondays will foster a team mentality and be a sustainable and energetic way to do the work of ministry together! It will help us to work towards a common vision and communicate across ministries.
