A Message from Our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish: The prophet Isaiah in the First Reading reveals to us the Word of God that is given to us for a purpose and God expects us to hear it and to live it. The Gospel reminds us that the Word of God is like a good seed, if watered and cared for, it will produce a great abundance. For many of us born into a Catholic family, the seed of the Word of God was planted and nourished in our homes. We learned to pray, to behave in church, to show our love for God. Our parents sent us to either Catholic schools or to Religious Education classes to nourish the seed that was growing in our religious life. We learned about God, we encountered God and we showed how to live our faith and be good people. We took classes to prepare us for Confirmation and a Catholic wedding, in the Catholic Church. The Word of God was nourishing our faith. Think about all the Masses we have attended in our lifetime. Yes, we heard the Word of God, sometimes it was easy, and we also learned that at other times we let distractions plug our ears and we rejected the Word. How many times we could have attended a bible study class but did not consider it important? Yes, we need to hear the Word of God, but we also must understand it, accept it and live it. Today, there are many who have heard the Word of God but did not understand it or accept it and so the good seed landed on rocky ground and did not grow and it died in faith. In our world, we want to be informed about everything going on but will not take time to read and study the bible. We will tune out during the Mass homily, check our messages, text about things that we think our more important. It is never too late to let the good seed grow and enrich our Christian lives. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor of St. Patrick Church

Shepherds Olive Wood Handcrafts July 22-23 Parish Hall A group from the Holy Land (Bethlehem & Jerusalem) will be selling religious articles after the Masses on July 22 and 23 to support the Catholic Christians minorities in Bethlehem. As a tradition, many of the Catholic families in the Holy Land work in small workshops to produce religious articles from olive wood. These articles represent the Christian art of the Holy Land. In the past, they used to sell their artwork to pilgrims who visited the Holy Land. However, these days they are facing an economic hardship as very few tourists visit the Holy Land due to security issues. Many of the Catholic families immigrated and left the Holy Land. The percentage of Christians in the Holy Land has dropped to less than 2%. Therefore, if this hardship continues as is, we believe that in a few years, there will be no more Catholics in Bethlehem or Jerusalem. Sales will be used to help and support the Catholics in the Holy Land and to encourage them not to immigrate. Tree of Life Open leaves are available on the Tree of Life located in the Chapel. What a beautiful way to honor the memory of a loved one or commemorate life s special events with a custom engraved brass leaf. Donation: $625 per leaf, installment plans are available.
