May the Lord bless each of us as we worship together, that His Name may be glorified and that we are encouraged and strengthened in faith. A typical service includes a time of singing praise, prayer, Bible reading and a message given by the Pastor. There is also an opportunity for us to give financially. If you are not a member or regular attendee of CRC Perth, please don t feel obligated to participate in the offering. We have two offerings. The first is for the workings of our local church, the second for a specified group usually outside our local church. Crèche is available for children aged 0-3 at the rear of the church building during the service. Most Sundays children (4-9 years old) attend church for the first part of the service and then leave for Sunday school during the offering. After the service please join us for refreshments and fellowship either to the side of church or in the hall. Patterson Reading: Ex. 12: 21-30, Num. 9: 1-14 Sermon: The Second Passover You all remember the first Passover, don t you in Ex. 12? Yahweh, the God of Israel, Yahweh, the Destroyer, passed over all the houses in the land of Egypt. Where the blood of a lamb had been sprinkled over the sides and tops of the door frames, Yahweh passed over that house but where there was no blood, the eldest son in that house died! It celebrated the Lord s deliverance of His people from the land of slavery and was to be celebrated every year on the 14th day of the first month in Israel s calendar. In fact this event established the beginning of the Jewish year! Now the Israelites had travelled as far as Mt Sinai and a whole year had passed. It was time for the first anniversary celebration of the Passover. The event is recorded in Numbers 9 and is our text for this morning. It was celebrated according to the Word of Yahweh so most was the old, old story of the salvation of the eldest son in every Israelite family. But it brought up some new issues that are also helpful for we C21 Christians (people of God) to consider. Read the passage and see what you can find. Of course, we know Jesus is our Passover Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7). He is the One who has redeemed more than just the first born son - all who repent and believe that Jesus is Messiah, the Son of God whose death on the cross was accepted by His Father as a complete atonement for all one s sins. So this chapter also is a revelation of the Christ, the perfect Lamb of God whose sacrifice is remembered in the Lord s Supper, the replacement of the Passover. It is a chapter to rejoice in. - Ross Patterson Meditation: Why? Read Psalm 74 with specific focus on verse 11 Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand. It is not known when Psalm 74 was written. The first destruction of the Temple was however in 587 BC. The poet can not understand why the Lord allows the ransacking of His sanctuary. It seemed to him the Lord has forgotten His people. He reminded God of the past. All the signs that Israel was known as God's people are replaced with the enemy characters and there is no prophet anymore. Nevertheless, he believes in the Lord's faithfulness as revealed from the foundation and in Israel's history. His memories of God's unlimited power move him to prayer. The Lord must think of the enemy who reviled Him and His people, who despise His name in folly. He asked that He will not allow for His people to be surrendered to the enemy, the enemy who were like wild animals. He

should remember His covenant with the people and dispel the enemy. The call to stand up is a human expression compared to the knowledge that the Keeper of Israel never slumbers. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep (Ps. 121: 2-4). The 'why' and 'how long of the poet is known to us - especially in times of adversity, sickness and death. The answer lies in faith in God - faith and trust in the Lord who have the answers. Because for sure, He will not let His name be mocked and slandered by circumstances or nations or Satan s forces forever. Gateway: Organic Spring Tea pray that all who come along will experience God s grace and nearness, especially those outside the Gateway family. Plebiscite: The mail survey is going ahead: Pray for wisdom to uphold God s design for marriage, and for the grace-filled speech that enables us to discuss the matter in loving respect. Last Sunday we prayed for Tash Noordzy s mum, Lorraine Streat. God has heard our prayers and she has regained consciousness and has been able to make some basic communication. This came as quite a surprise to family and we should see this as a miraculous answer to prayer. Lorraine still has a long way to go, but let us keep praying that God will restore her health. Continue to remember those struggling with ongoing illness Michael Claes, Malcolm Morley, Little Charlie, Lorraine Streat. Lord, hear our prayer. For the next week say this prayer: Jesus, let me see one person this week who needs to feel your grace. Let me step into that opportunity in faith. Enable me to do or give as you direct. Please do this for your glory and so Jesus will trusted. Willetton: Please Pray: For those recovering from or anticipating surgery at the moment. Give thanks that Gordon Knigge's surgery went as planned last week and that he is now recovering at home. Pray peace for Rolf van Dyken and Chris Hoogenboezem as their operations are still ahead of them (Rolf this week and Chris at the end of the month). For those dealing with long-lasting colds and flus. For the victims, families, aid workers and national leaders who are responding to the damage of floods, hurricanes and earthquakes in North America and South Asia. For the victims and families of another terrorist bombing in Iraq. Pray for justice and for radical hearttransformation for those who perpetrate such acts of violence. For the nation and the church during the Marriage Postal Vote. Pray that campaigning and advocating is done in true love and humility. Pray that God's kingdom will grow whatever the outcome. And pray that the church stays focused on proclaiming the gospel of Jesus, not just speaking against Same-Sex Marriage. We look forward to seeing you all there! Join us for the WA Coalition for Marriage Campaign Event The marriage plebiscite is a referendum on consequences. Changing the Marriage Act will affect you, your family and all Australians. Many parents are concerned about their rights as radical gay sex education classes become more widespread and even compulsory. Changing our marriage laws also gives licence to gay activists, weaponising anti-discrimination legislation and using it to stifle debate or dissent. Leaders in the gay marriage movement have already sought to use human rights and anti-discrimination commissions to target religious figures who have spoken out against same-sex marriage. The affects to freedom of speech and belief, if the law is changed, will be significant. Please join us as we campaign for marriage in Perth! WHEN September 21, 2017 at 7pm - 8:30pm WHERE Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, Rear View Room 21 Mounts Bay Rd Tickets is $10 per person and is available at: https://www.coalitionformarriage.com.au/wa_event
