Keeping Fr. Frank in Our Prayers: For over 33 years Fr. Frank Damis has been a shepherd to the people of St. Joseph's Parish. His dedication to our Church, our School and Hurley Mission have been exemplary. So many baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, funerals, and Masses! We have been truly blessed to have Fr. Frank in our lives for so many years! As of mid-june, Fr. Frank is living at the new Edward Cardinal Egan Pavilion, an expansion of the St. John Vianney Center for Retired Priests, in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Although a distance from his hometown, this facility offers a warm, gracious, safe, secure and hospitable environment. The benefit for Father Frank is that he is without the burdens of administration and the daily rigors of running St. Joseph's. He lives his priesthood in fraternity with other retired priests from our Archdiocese where he celebrates Mass. If you would like to send a card to Fr. Frank, here is the address: Edward Cardinal Egan Pavilion Att: Fr. Frank J. Damis 5655 Arlington Avenue Bronx, NY 10471 Visits may also be appreciated at the Pavilion! We hope Fr. Frank will settle in to his new "suite" at the Pavilion as we extend our caring thoughts and prayers. We also hope that you will keep Fr. Rick and Fr. George in your prayers and support their efforts at St. Joseph's Parish! Fr. George is currently in India caring for his 97 year old mother. During Fr. George s absence, Fr. Rick has arranged for several area priests to help with weekend Masses. We are grateful to these priests who will grace our Parish! Please keep Fr. George s mother, Mary, in your prayers. TWO WAYS TO BECOME ACTIVE AT OUR PARISH! LECTOR TRAINING Training is planned for those interested in serving as Lectors. You will be entrusted with proclaiming the Word of God with utmost care and reverence at Mass. There is no charge for this training. Please contact Deacon Joe Doherty at 331-1689. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST Parishioners who have the love of the Eucharist are invited to become Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The training will be in September at a date to be announced (usually Saturday from 1:00pm 4:30pm.) Come learn about bringing Jesus in the Eucharist to people at home, in Nursing Homes or Hospitals or become a Eucharistic Minister of the Parish. Please contact Beth Safford at 845-532-0235 or Fr. Rick at 845-338-1554. 463 St. Joseph Church Page 3
ST. JOSEPH S SOCIAL MINISTRY BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE SPIRIT FIRE Evening of Prayer & Worship The St. Martin de Porres Community of Praise will sponsor an evening of prayer and praise featuring Spirit Fire on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 7:30 P.M. It will be held at St. Martin de Porres church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A love offering will be taken. For information call 462-3669 or 462-4510. Since there are so many wonderful donors thru out our Community who give school supplies, we at Saint Joseph s Social Ministry are asking your support in a different realm of much needed School needs. We would encourage and thank you for donations of underwear socks for ages 5-16 also a small gift card for boy or girl for a haircut. This would be a very special gift for our young ones and if anyone has a beauty shop and could help with this project please call this office. If you could ask your Kids to clean out their dresser drawers for clothing items they no longer wear. What a great way to awaken in our children and grandchildren the needs of those who are not as fortunate as others. Once again we thank you on behalf of the families which come to our door every day. We are Christ s Hands and Voice reaching out to those in such desperate need. Collections will begin July 16 th through Labor Day. Receptacles for your donations will be in the parish office. Please call the Mission in Hurley at 845-338-7121. Music Ministry Notes It is summertime and our dedicated Parish Cantors continue our tradition of leading song at 4 Masses each weekend (Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30.) We extend our appreciation to our Cantors and to Jane Touhey, our Music Director and organist and Elise Andersen our keyboardist. We will have a parish-wide recruitment for new members to join our Music Ministry. There are currently over 30 singers and instrumentalists who sing at the 10:00 Mass from September May. Consider joining us! Call Bob Gaus at 389-1503.
