13. (O Mohammad! this Qur an is) a Book We have sent down to you, which is thoroughly blessed, so that they may ponder over its verses, and those who are given wisdom may take it. (Qur'an 38:29) 101

CHAPTER - 5 Qur'an, the rhythmic and recitative verses, phrases, sentences and chapters uttered by the Holy Prophet of Islam, not as his own wording, but as the verbatim Book of God reveled to him in 23 years of time. This Book is his Everlasting Miracle, bearing testimony of his Prophet-hood. None of the historical records and reports which the Muslims claim to be the most authentic, can claim to be within the reach of every Muslim from his earliest age as is the Holy Qur'an. The utmost importance attached to the Holy Qur an by every Muslim was not developed as an afterthought, but the Holy Qur'an itself, from time to time of its revelation, encouraged the people in various ways to learn, read, recite and memorize it, and ponder over every word and mindfully listen while recited. According to Islamic rules one should be physically clean, i.e. perform prescribed ablution (wadu), and avoid things which cause distraction. And when you recite the Qur'an seek refuge to God from Satan the accused. Qur'an consists of 114 Chapters (Suras), 6236 Verses (Ayas), 76442 words, and 326,671 letters. 1. An open challenge to humanity for All times. In the following verses The Almighty all-wise God has asked His Messenger Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to make an open challenge to the humanity for making an effort to compose even one chapter in the style and manner of the Holy Qur'an. 1.1 Say (Even) if men and the jinn get together to produce the like of this Qur'an, they will not (be able to) produce the like of it, though some of them become helpers of others. (Qur'an 17:88) 107

1.2 Say Bring then ten Chapters the like thereof, forged, and call (to your aid) whomsoever you can besides God, if you are truthful. (Qur'an 11:13) 1.3 If you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant (Mohammad), then produce a Chapter like it, and call your witnesses besides God if you are truthful. (Qur'an 2:23) 108

The Almighty all-wise God throws an open challenge to humanity for making an effort to compose even one chapter in the style and manner of Qur'an, not only to assert the genuineness of the divine words revealed to Man (Messenger of Islam Prophet Mohammad - PBUH) who did not receive any type of education from any mortal, but also to put an end to doubts and speculations, forever that it could be the fabrication of any human mind. The inimitable literary excellence and the pure and perfect wisdom of Qur'an has been and will always be beyond the reach of the literary and intellectual genius of humanity. Haj Mirza Aga Mehdi Poya Says: Since the start of the Islam till today, the enemies of Islam have been trying to belittle Islam but they never dared to answer the challenge, in spite of repeated attempts made by the most celebrated scholars and men of letters, jointly and in a group. In what respect is the Holy Qur'an an unchallengeable miracle? How is it the proof of its own truthfulness? Following are the views put forward by both Muslim and non-muslim scholars. 1. Eloquence and the Rhetorical excellence. 2. Prophecies. 3. Precepts and Laws. 4. Effect of its forceful and fascinating tone on the human mind and heart. No attempt has been made to look into the book itself to know why and in what sense it is a miracle. 109

This is the Book, there is no doubt in it, (it is) a guidance to those who safeguard themselves with all full awareness of divine laws. (Qur'an 2:2) The duty of the Messenger of God was to convey and preach guidance to humanity. Qur'an is a statement for humanity, a guidance and an admonition for the pious. (Qur'an 3:138) The speaker or the author arranges his words and sentences to make his ideas meaningful to the audience or its readers. In search of the best way to communicate the ideas, the science of grammar and the art of rhetoric has been developed. The use of language and style has to be adopted in relation to the class of people who are addressed. A message or guidance of the universal nature, dealing with all aspects of human life in its manifold dimensions (individual and social, economic and political, physical and spiritual) not for any particular person or class but for every human being, community and nation, educated and uneducated, 110

till eternity, must be the work of a person who knows, inside out, human nature in general as well as the capacity to understand and the tendencies of different individuals and communities of different classes and races. In addition, the relation of each individual to the other, the relation of humanity as a whole to other beings and surrounding nature, the first and the final cause of the creation of which man is a part, have to be taken into consideration. The style and substance of such a message should not only appeal to the welfare oriented interests of the people but also should be able to refine human feelings and emotions. Such a power of expression is beyond the limit of human ability. Therefore it is true to say that the Holy Qur'an is a miracle in view of its style and substance. 111

2. Holy Qur'an is revealed by God to His Messenger Mohammad (PBUH) 2.1 And this Qur'an is not such as could be produced by (any one) besides God, but it is a confirmation of what has gone before it, and (the clearest) explanation of the Book, there is no doubt in it, (it is) from the Lord of the worlds. (Qur'an 10:37) 112

2.2 And verily it has come down from the Lord of the worlds. (Qur'an 26:192) 2.3 (This is) the revelation of the Book (in which) there is no doubt. (It is) from the Lord of the worlds. (Qur'an 32:2) 2.4 (That is) a revelation of the Al-Mighty, the All- Merciful. (Qur'an 36:5) 113

2.5 The revelation of the Book (Qur an) is from God, The Al-Mighty, The All-Wise. (Qur'an 39:1) 2.6 The revelation of the Book is from God, The Al-Mighty, The All-Knowing. (Qur'an 40:2) 2.7 A revelation from the Beneficent, the Most Merciful. (Qur'an 41:2) 2.8 Verily those who disbelieve in the Reminder when it comes to them (should know) that, verily, it (Qur an) is an unassailable Book. Falsehood cannot come at it from before it or from behind it. It is a revelation from the All-Wise, the Owner of Praise. (Qur'an 41:41-42) 118

2.9 The revelation of this Book is from God, The Al- Mighty, The All-Wise. (Qur'an 45:2) 2.10 The revelation of the Book (Qur'an) is from God, The Al-Mighty, The All-Wise. (Qur'an 46:2) 119

(Qur'an 69:43) 2.11 It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. 3. Holy Qur'an is free from all human conjectures and discrepancies. 3.1 Do they not think (carefully) in Qur'an? And if it had been from any other than God, they would surely have found in it much discrepancy. (Qur'an 4: 82) 4. Qur'an invites one to ponder over its content. 4.1 Why do they not ponder over the word (Qur'an) or has that come to them which has not come to their fathers of old? (Qur'an 23:68) 120

4.2 Do they not meditate on Qur'an? Yes, certainly their hearts have been sealed with locks. (Qur'an 47:24) 5. Qur'an has been revealed only with the Knowledge and Mercy of God. 5.1 Then know that it (Qur'an) has been revealed only with the knowledge of God, and that there is no god but He. (Qur'an 11:14) 121

5.2 You did not expect that the Book would be inspired in you, but it is a mercy from your Lord, therefore do not be supporter of the disbelievers. (Qur'an 28:86) 6. The Holy Spirit (Angel Gabriel) has brought it down from the Lord of the heavens. 6.1 Say (O Mohammad to the disbelievers): The Holy Spirit (Angel Gabriel) has brought it down (to you) from your Lord with truth, so that it may strengthen (the faith of) those who believe, and as guidance and glad tidings for those who submit (themselves to God). (Qur'an 16:102) 122

6.2 With it came down the trusted spirit upon your heart (O' Mohammad) that you may be a warner. (Qur'an 26:193-194) 7. Another challenge to humanity, Qur'an Challenges: None can change His words 7.1 Perfect is the word of your Lord in truth and justice; There is none who can change His words, and He is the All-Hearing and the All-Knowing. (Qur'an 6:116) 123

7.2 Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord; None shall change His word; And none shall you find as a refuge other than Him. (Qur'an 18:27) 8. God has taken the responsibility of guarding (Protecting) the Holy Qur'an. 8.1 Verily We have sent down the Reminder (Qur'an) and We will certainly be its Protector. (Qur'an 15:9) 9. The Holy Qur'an is given to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the All-Wise, the All-Knowing God. Verily you (O' Mohammad) receive the Qur'an from the All-Wise, the All-Knowing. (Qur'an 27:6) 124

10. Holy Qur'an is a Scripture where there is no doubt, crookedness, invented story or falsehood. 10.1 This is the Book, there is no doubt in it, (it is) a guidance to those who safeguard themselves with all full awareness of divine laws. (Qur'an 2:2) 10.2 Praise be to God, Who has sent down the Book (Qur'an) upon His Servant, and has not caused therein any crookedness. (Qur'an 18:1) 125

10.3 (This is) Qur'an in Arabic, without any obliquity, so that haply they may safeguard themselves against evil with full awareness of divine laws. (Qur'an 39:28) 10.4 Falsehood cannot come at it from before it or from behind it. It is a revelation from the All-Wise, the Owner of Praise. (Qur'an 41:42) 11. Qur'an is purified Scripture and contains eternal laws. 11.1 (In the) message from God reciting (to them) the purified scripture, which contains eternal laws. (Qur'an 98:2-3) 126

12. Qur'an is decisive word not a jest. 12.1 Verily it (Qur'an) is a decisive word. And it is certainly not a jest. (Qur'an 86:13-14) 13. Holy Qur'an is truth. 13.1 When it is said to them: Believe in what God has sent down, they say: We believe in which was sent down to us, And they disbelieve in that which is besides (that) while it is the truth, confirming that which is with them. (Qur'an 2:91) 127

13.2 And We have sent down to you (O' Mohammad) the Book (Qur'an) with truth, confirming what is before it of the Book and a guardian over it, therefore judge between them by what God has sent down, and follow not their (Vain) desires, diverging from what has come to you, of the truth. (Qur'an 5:48) 128

13.3 If you are in doubt of what We have sent down to you, then ask those who read the Book (sent) before you; indeed the truth has come to you from your Lord, so do not be of those who doubt. (Qur'an 10:94) 13.4 13.5 Say: O' people! Indeed the truth (Qur an) has come to you from your Lord; therefore whosoever receives the guidance, he receives the guidance for (the good of) his own self; and whosoever strays, most surely, he strays to his own loss and I am not a custodian over you. (Qur'an 10:108) 126

14. God has sent down the Holy Qur'an with truth. 14.1 This is because God has sent down the Book with the truth; verily, those who disagree in the Book have gone astray in their contrariness. (Qur'an 2:176) 14.2 He has sent down to you the Book (Qur an) with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, and He sent down the Torah and the Evangel aforetime, a guidance to the 127

people and sent down the criterion. Verily those who disbelieve in the signs of God, for them is a severe punishment: God is mighty, Master of retribution. (Qur'an 3:3-4) 14.3 (Say): Should I seek another judge apart from God, when it is He who has sent down to you the Book (Qur an) fully explained? and those whom We have given the Book know that it has been sent down from your Lord with the truth, so do not be of those who doubt. (Qur'an 6:115) 128

14.4 These are the verses of the Book, whatever has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of humanity do not believe. (Qur'an 13:1) 129

14.5 Say (O' Mohammad to the disbelievers): The Holy Spirit (Angel Gabriel) has brought it down (to you) from your Lord with truth, so that it may strengthen (the faith of) those who believe, and as guidance and glad tidings to those who submit themselves (to God). (Qur'an 16:102) 14.6 We have sent it down with truth, and with truth it has come down. We did not send you (O' Mohammad) except as a giver of glad tidings and as a warner. (Qur'an 17:105) 130

14.7 Verily, We have sent down to you the book with truth; so worship God and be sincere to Him in religion. (Qur'an 39:2) 15. Holy Qur'an is truth but most people abhor the truth. 15.1 Why do they not ponder over the word (Qur'an)? Or has that come to them which had not came to their fathers of old? Or do they not recognize their messenger? That they deny him? Or do they say: There is madness in him? Nay, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. (Qur'an 23:68-70) 131

16. The Holy Qur'an is guidance and reminder unto believers. 16.1 The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur'an was sent down, a guidance for humanity and clear proofs of guidance, and the criterion for the right and the wrong; So whosoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast in it; and whosoever is sick or on a journey (he shall fast) the same number of other days; God desires ease for you. He does not desire hardship for you, and that you should complete the prescribed number (of days), and that you should glorify God for His having guided you, so that you may give thanks. (Qur'an 2:185) 132

16.2 He has sent down to you the Book with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it; and He sent down the Torah and the Evangel aforetime, a guidance to the people and sent down the criterion. Verily those who disbelieve in the signs of God, for them is a severe punishment: God is mighty, Master of retribution. (Qur'an 3:3-4) 133

16.3 This is a clear statement (of events) for humanity, and a guidance and an admonition for those who safeguard themselves with full awareness of Divine laws. (Qur'an 3:138) 16.4 O' humanity! Indeed an exhortation has come to you from your Lord, and a cure for that which is in your breasts and a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (Qur an10:57) 134

16.5 Even though you do not ask any recompense for it, (it) is nothing else than an admonition to the worlds. (Qur'an 12:104) 16.6 We have not taught him poetry, nor is it worthy of him. This is nothing but a reminder and Qur'an (which) makes things clear. (Qur'an 36:69) (Qur'an 38:1) 16.7 Saad. By the Qur'an full of admonition. 135

(Qur'an 38:87) 16.8 It is nothing but reminder to the worlds. 16.9 This is God's guidance. He guides with it whomsoever He wills; and whomsoever God leaves astray, for him there is no guide. (Qur'an 39:23) 16.10 Verily We have sent down the book on you for humanity with truth. Then whosoever is guided is guided for (the good of) his own soul, and whosoever goes astray does so to his own loss; and you are not a custodian over them. (Qur'an 39:41) 136

16.11 Thus We revealed to you Our guidance by Our command. You did not know what the book was, nor the faith, but We made it a light by which We guide whomsoever We will of Our servants.
