Page 2 Mount Zion Bulletin October 2018 POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS This month I will use our spot in the bulletin to give a word of caution. This time of year is when venomous snakes are giving birth to their young. The most common one we see around Mount Zion is the Copperhead. In fact just last week a Carroll County Sheriff s Sergeant and I removed a baby Copperhead from the Mount Zion Elementary School. These babies are tiny and can get into places that larger snakes cannot. Just because they are small, that doesn t mean they can t give a nasty bite. They are born with the same venom an adult Copperhead has. Please watch for them and watch where you put your hands around the yard. Being so small they can hide almost anywhere. I am including a photo of the one we removed from the school. In the photo the tiny snake is in the bottom of a Hardee s medium drink cup. It is approximately 8 long. It likely came in under a door. Officer Chris Parrish Mount Zion Police RECREATION DEPARTMENT NEWS Fall sports have started at Mount Zion Recreation Dept. The 7/8 football team has played 3 games already, and 5/6 will start on Monday October 1 st at Heard County. Baseball and softball have started as well. We filled a 7/8 and 9/10 girls team along with a 9/10 and 11/12 boys team so come out and catch a game. Brad Hennesy Director
