2 CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY FEBRUARY 17, 2019 * indicates to please stand as you are able Bold Print indicates a group response VU = Voices United Hymnbook (Red cover) MV = More Voices Hymnbook (Spiral Bound) PRELUDE: Jesu Joy of Man s Desiring -J.S.Bach WE APPROACH GOD OPENING HYMN: Joyful, Joyful We Adore You (VU 232) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP: Come, all who are poor in spirit; come all who mourn; come, all who are meek; come, all who hunger and thirst after righteousness. Come, all who would be merciful; come, all who would be pure in heart; come, all who would be peacemakers. Let us come together the weak, the simple, the powerless, the foolish. Let us seek the source of our life in Christ Jesus. Let us worship the God of every blessing. INTROIT: The Rose -Kathy & Rich McCallum PRAYER OF APPROACH: God of the faithful in every time, today you have called us into your church to be one body in Jesus Christ. You have given us the gifts we need for your service. Grant that we may willingly take our part; that we may support one another; and that we may seek the greatest gift,

which is love. In love, unite your people throughout the world, through your Spirit of unity. Amen. 3 PRAYER OF CONFESSION: You have called us, God, to live as Christ did. It is difficult. We confess to you and to ourselves how often we fall short of Christ s example. We have gone off after our own goals, forgetting to test them by your intention for us...we have failed to understand the needs of those around us, and seek their good... We have relied on our own strength and given in to despair, instead of turning to you... Cleanse and renew us, that we may know the joy of your presence and be bearers of your light, through the grace of Jesus Christ. Amen. SUNG RESPONSE: (MV 18) Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true; with thanksgiving, I ll be a living sanctuary for you. WE LISTEN FOR GOD S STORY * HYMN: Jesus Loves Me (VU 365) CHILDREN S TIME: PSALM SELECTION: Psalm 1 (VU 724) SUNG RESPONSE: (VU 958) Halle, halle, hallelujah! Halle, halle, hallejujah! Halle, halle, hallejujah! Hallejujah! Hallejujah! SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 5: 1-12 Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church Thanks be to God.

4 MEDITATION: Happiness Is? * HYMN: Spirit God, Be Our Breath (MV 150) WE GO OUT TO LIVE THE STORY OFFERTORY ANTHEM: Blest Are They D.Haas & M. Hayes * PRESENTATION OF THE OFFERING (tune: VU 372) You give us hope this blessed day: O God, in Christ, you make us new! As we ve been blessed, O Lord, we pray, may these our gifts bless others, too. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE (including The Lord s Prayer) WE CELEBRATE THE STORY * HYMN: Oh a Song Must Rise (MV 142) BLESSING * CHORAL ENDING: (VU 649) Walk with me, I will walk with you and build the land that God has planned where love shines through. And when you share your faith with me and work for life made new, the witness of your faithfulness calls me to walk with you (repeat Refrain) POSTLUDE: Triumphal March -G. Verdi SYMPATHY The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Rick Banting and family on the death of his mom, Helen on Tuesday, February 12 th in Mitchell, Ontario.
