NEWS FOR THE BODY OF CHRIST Preschool Supplies - Bethany Preschool would appreciate donations for school supplies for the coming year. They can be put in the box in front of the nursery. Baby wipes, cleaning wipes, 5 oz plastic cups, napkins, Elmer s school glue, glue sticks, washable markers (thin and thick) and crayons. Thank you! October Special Offering - Thank Offering The special offering envelope for October supports the Thank Offering for Presbyterian Women of Pittsburgh Presbytery mission projects. Online giver? Not receiving envelopes? You can still donate to this special offering either by selecting "Thank Offering" in the online giving portal or noting that your donation is for the Thank Offering on your check or a pew envelope. Thank you for your contribution to the mission programs of the Presbyterian Women and the Thank Offering. Extra Singers Needed! The Advent Cantata this year is scheduled for Sunday, December 9. It would be wonderful to add some voices for this presentation as we have in past years. Singers in all parts are needed. If you are interested in adding your voice to this offering, plan on attending rehearsals beginning on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 pm in the choir room. Rehearsals will begin with work on the cantata at 7:00 pm. Expect our cantata rehearsal to last about 45 minutes. We will also have CDs available to help you learn the selections outside of our Wednesday practices. Family Promise is coming back to Bethany the week of October 28-November 4. Sign ups will be available in church this week at all three services or online right now! Here is the link if you want to sign up online - it's an easy option and you'll automatically get email reminders of the spots that you have signed up for. https://bethanypresby.org/volunteer/family-promise/ If you are looking to get involved on a long-term basis we are currently looking for someone to join our planning team as the setup manager. This person is in charge of making sure that the rooms for the guests are prepared and we have the needed supplies on hand for our host week. The time commitment for this is roughly 1-2 hours on the Sunday our guests arrive (we host 4x a year). Please let me know if you are interested in learning more. Thanks so much, Peggy Walsh (412) 956-7244 SAVE THE DATE: Bethany Presbyterian Women will have their Annual Christmas Gathering on Saturday December 1, 2018 from 12:45 PM to 3:00 PM! Please look in next week s bulletin for more information on helping and donating!

Stewardship Testimonies You have an opportunity to share your testimonies with the congregation about how God has blessed you and inspired you to give to His work at Bethany. Beginning on Sunday, October 14, and for the next four Sundays, the bulletins will contain these personal testimonies for the following six days. You are encouraged to pray about this and hopefully volunteer to write a short, sweet, and heartfelt testimony and submit it to Fred Gossic, who is coordinating this effort. The themes for each week and the accompanying Scriptures from John are: October 21 Our giving centers in Christ (13:1-11) (submit to Fred by Oct. 15); October 28 Our giving thrives in community (13:12-20) (submit by Oct. 22); November 4 Our giving grows through consistency (21:9-17) (submit by Oct. 29); and November 11 Our giving begins with commitment (12:1-8) (submit by Nov. 5). Please notify Fred of your intention and submit your testimony by the dates indicated above. God has blessed us. Let s share that blessing with others. TWO NEW POSITIONS AT BETHANY. Please help us to spread the word Session is seeking to fill two new part-time positions-- a part-time Pastoral Care Pastor and a part-time Nursery Coordinator. The Pastoral Care Position is a contracted position for a person ordained in the Protestant tradition to help with the pastoral care of our homebound, and nursing home residents. The Nursery Coordinator position will be available in January, upon the retirement of our current long-time Coordinator, Jenny Smith. The new position will continue to be responsible for managing our nursery on Sunday mornings for the Sunday School hour and our second service, but it has been expanded to include coverage for the 8:15am service, and oversight of volunteer coverage for the 6pm service. If you know of anyone who might be interested in learning more about these positions, please email personnel@bethanypresby.org. A note, Bethany members are not eligible to be hired for either of these positions. Memorials: Contributions were made to the following funds in memory of Roger Cox. For the Bethany Memorial Fund from Jim & Lynne Cawley, Robert & Sharon Matusic, Donna, Doug & Debbie Farabee, and Henry & Barbara Nerone. For the Helping Hands Fund from Dean & Linda Karns, and Tom & Carol Willhite. For the Bridgeville Community Food Bank from Bill & Elaine Gray.
