TELL IT WHAT MUST I DO TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD? When Jesus began His ministry most of the Jews knew what the Kingdom of God was. They often asked Jesus. What must I do to enter the Kingdom of God? We talked a few weeks ago about a wealthy young man who said he followed God s law since he was young. Jesus told him. Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. Mark 10:21 As the young man walked away Jesus said to His disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved? Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. Mark 10:23-27 WHAT GOD REQUIRES, JESUS PROVIDES Jesus just said it was IMPOSSIBLE for man! He said harder than putting a whole camel through the tiny hole in the top of a sewing needle. Then who can be saved? SAY: WHAT GOD REQUIRES, JESUS PROVIDES. WE KNOW WHAT JESUS SAID TO A RICH MAN. WHAT DID JESUS SAY TO A BEGGAR? As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by. He called out, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me! Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, What do you want me to do for you? Lord, I want to see, he replied. Jesus said to him, Receive your sight; your faith has healed you. Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. JESUS HEALED THE BEGGAR WHOSE EYES NEEDED SIGHT, BUT WHOSE SOUL RECOGNIZED THE KING Did you hear what the beggar called Jesus? He called him Son of David and Lord. Both those titles were for the King. The man s eyes were blind, but His spirit could see. He had nothing to offer Jesus, but he had a heart that would cry out to Him and ask for healing. And Jesus provided the healing. SAY: WHAT GOD REQUIRES, JESUS PROVIDES JESUS WANTS TO BE LORD AND KING OF YOUR LIFE Jesus s offer is there for you too. If you rid your heart of everything and are able see how poor it is. With nothing to offer, you can call on the Name of the King. His name is Jesus and He will save you. HE WILL A TAKE BEGGARS SOUL, AND MAKE IT A SOUL THAT BELONGS IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, FOREVER.
GIVE STUDENTS A CHANCE TO RESPOND We all share a passion to make sure our children understand the gospel and turn to Christ in genuine salvation. As you present the gospel at FPKids it is important to remember that a true response involves both repentance and faith. We don t need to confuse these responses to an invitation as repentance: - Raise your hand if you want to go to heaven. - Repeat the sinner s prayer. - You need to be baptized. - Make a decision to follow Jesus today! - There is no doubt that true conversations have come from these methods. These also can lead to a false assurance of salvation that can be dangerous. We ask that every decision made is discussed with a trained FPKids volunteer so that the kids can understand these Biblical truths. This will also help get them back to a local church. The following are some points of emphasis to keep in mind as you guide kids to understand the Gospel: - Talk a lot about who Jesus is (God-Man, Savior, Lord, King) and what He has done (died for our sins on the cross, rose from the dead). - Make it clear that all people need their sins forgiven and will be judged for their sins if they are not saved. - Urge children to turn from their sins and trust in what Jesus has done. - Invite children to talk to you further about their relationship with God. - Motivate parents to pursue further discussions with their children. - Think long-term. Think how you can continually disciple children vs. how many decisions you can record. - Pray for the children, and expect God in His grace to use the gospel to bring them to true, saving faith in Christ.
