Because God gets lonely for his people was the reply. There is some resonance with this wisdom in today s Gospel, as Jesus makes his disciples get into a boat without him and goes off alone while they venture into stormy waters. Of course, neither Jews nor Christians believe that the Almighty plays this sort of whimsical game with them, but there is some truth in the statement that we don t turn to God for saving help until we re in a bind. Peter s role today, as it is throughout the New Testament, is to be a sign or to represent each member of the church and the whole church. Our story is the tale told about Peter s faith today. What can bolster our faith is that even when Christ calls us to face bravely the tempests of life, if we are walking through them with our eyes fixed on him in faith, we have nothing to fear. Even when we falter or sink, simply crying Lord, save me! is enough to help us know the steady grasp of God s hand. Then, sheltered inside the walls of faith, the storms we endure lose their power over us. J. S. Paluch Co. Endowment Match Opportunity The Catholic Community Foundation announced that a generous donor is offering a $1 Million match ($20,000 per parish in the Diocese of San Jose) for donations made to parish endowments before September 30, 2017. Inspired by this opportunity for our parish, a long time parishioner decided to offer the same $20,000 match to St. Frances Cabrini School for donations made before December 31st, 2017. Like any other endowment, these will be permanent funds invested to produce income for both parish and school. Gifts to these funds (the principal) will remain untouched; only the income they generate will be used for grants. Prayerfully consider making a gift to our newly established St. Frances Cabrini Parish Endowment and/or St. Frances Cabrini School Endowment as a way to leaving a legacy in our SFC Catholic Community. See this this weekend s bulletin insert from The Catholic Community Foundation for further information and an important message from Fr. Michael. Alpha is a program that touches on and explores different topics of the Christian faith. Do you know of anyone who is either questioning their faith or maybe has no faith at all? In this day and age, we all know someone with a lack of or lessening spirituality. Invite them to come with you to the Free Introductory Dinner that will be held on Sept. 11, 2017, at 6:30PM, in Kelley Hall. It may be exactly what they are looking for. Or, bring yourself! We welcome all who wish to attend. To sign up, or if you if you have questions, please email alicia_morales@comcast.net or call 408-857-0523. RCIA at St. Frances Cabrini The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process of education and spiritual formation. The Saint Frances Cabrini Parish RCIA team welcomes those inquiring into the Catholic Christian faith as well as those adults who desire to receive the Sacraments of initiation. Christian Initiation is a beautiful process that merges the work already begun in you with the life of the Church. The sessions include an informal inquiry period and are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Center living room beginning in the fall. Please contact RCIA@sfcabrini.org RCIA SPONSORS NEEDED St. Augustine referred to the Church as a community of Christians begetting Christians. In the early days, the Church was dependent on the witness of every member. Welcoming new Catholics was not only the responsibility of the clergy, but belonged with the entire community of the faithful. Today the RCIA gives each person in our parish the opportunity to share the gift of his/her faith with someone who is seeking to know God through our Church. Please consider sharing your Time, Talent and experience of God s love by becoming a sponsor. Sponsors are needed for candidates and catechumens in preparation for the Easter Vigil. Sponsors accompany candidates and catechumens through the last three phases of the RCIA process. Sponsors need to be faithful Catholics who are fully initiated (Baptized, Confirmed, and Eucharist) and at least 16 years of age. Please contact RCIA@sfcabrini.org to sign up or gain more information. The parish office staff will be in class for the afternoon of Tuesday August 15th. This will effect the 1 hour of 3pm to 4pm that the office opens on that day. The parish office is normally closed on Tuesdays with the exception of 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4 pm. This Tuesday, the office will only be open from 9am to 10am but closed for the one hour of 3pm to 4pm in the afternoon. If you have a meeting where you will need a key this week, best to pick your keys up tomorrow, Monday, August 14th. Please consider giving of your Time and Talent to Sacred Heart Community Services. The Sacred Heart Community Service organization engages the community and inspires volunteers to love, serve and share. Founded in 1964, Sacred Heart Community Service s mission is to change lives and impact poverty by providing essential services, Village House Where Are They Now? Where are our 15 guests now? The Village House Program, (SFC Helping Others) Village House: An Interfaith Shelter of Hope program ran by the City of San Jose is still going strong. The ladies have just moved to St. John Vianney; their eighth location. After leaving SFC last March, the ladies spent the last 4 months at Willow Glen United Methodist (April), St. Paul United Methodist (May), St. Julie s Parish (June) leaving Cathedral of Faith (july) for their new digs. Four ladies from our month of March group have been placed and are moving forward. We are currently at 14 women and will be adding a 15th woman this month. Three of our guest are waiting to move into rented housing, which Village House hopes to obtain within the next couple of months. We are always in need of Volunteers! Without our volunteers, this program would not be the success it is. St. John Vianney needs our help staffing this month s program. Visit www.villagehousescca.com to sign up for a shift or to see who has moved on and who has recently joined the program. Meet the ladies and say hello to our friends still with us and who are looking forward to moving on having had the benefit of this program to help them along. Please contact Mike Ferrero, Director of Social Ministries, Holy Spirit Parish, (408) 9975111 mferrero@dsj.org if you have questions or visit www.villagehousescca.com to see what is needed.
