Burlington, NC Volume 14, Issue 2 AlamanceAACA.org February 2016 President s Message F ebruary has arrived and the groundhog has predicted an early spring. Hopefully the rest of the winter will be mild. I say this as I m looking at the weather forecast for Philadelphia for the 11th -13th. I know it will be cold, but I want any ice and snow to stay away from the annual AACA meeting. I hope the groundhog knows what he s doing. January was a fun month for our club. We had our first ever White Elephant Bingo event on the 9th at the clubhouse. It was an interesting evening to see the mix of prizes and who decided they just had to steal someone else s prize to get what they wanted. It was a fun time. A few pictures follow in the newsletter. We also had the annual NC Region meet at the Ramada Inn here in Burlington. Twelve Alamance Region members attended on Saturday. The speakers spoke on Early Trading Paths in the South that eventually formed our present day roads, and estate planning concerning antique cars. They were both informative and very entertaining. Elizabeth Coble won a shirt from the NC Region at lunch by correctly identifying 4 out of 5 items displayed earlier that morning. Larry and Elizabeth Coble also were presented the Les Joyner award for their 1969 Ford Mustang. This award is for the highest scoring Mustang at NC Region events during the year, and has to score at least 385 out of 400 points. In addition their names will be on the Les Joyner trophy that is on display at the transportation museum in Spencer, NC. We will have our February club meeting on the 20th at the K&W cafeteria at 6:30PM. Henry will have a special program to celebrate Valentines, so come prepared to participate. By the way, the General Greene chapter in Greensboro has invited our club to participate in a restoration shop tour on the 20th also. An e-mail was sent out and they needed a quick response. We have 12 members planning to go. If anyone else wants to go, just let me know. It will tour an auto restoration shop as well as a antique wooden boat restoration shop. Lunch will be between the two tours. Next Club Meeting February 20, 2016 at 6:30pm K&W Cafeteria Burlington, NC Meeting Minutes for January 2016 Billy Patterson T The January meeting of the Alamance Region AACA was held at our clubhouse on Saturday, January 9th at 6:30 PM. The meeting was called to order by our president, Billy Patterson. We had 47 people attending including 43 members, 1 child and with 3 guests. Floyd and Elsie Smith invited guests Wade Thomas (former club member) and Terry Ewing (Earl Ewing s son). Henry Gaither, Jr. invited Daniel Mustin. Our president, Billy Patterson thanked the hosts, Tal & Jeannie Johnson and Floyd & Elsie Smith. Bruce mentioned that he had forgotten to send the newsletter pdf to Ed for the electronic version. He sent it to Ed today... Billy reminded everyone of the NC Region meeting in Burlington on Friday 1/15/16 & Saturday 1/16/16. He also reminded everyone that our club meeting for Continued on next page... President: 2016 Officers Billy Patterson 336-580-0655 V. February would be on February 20th at K&W in Burlington to celebrate Valentines Day. Henry mentioned that there would be a $50 gift certificate for the Newlywed game during the Valentine dinner. Jeannie made up quick host list to pass around for signup. She mentioned that she would be collecting any dues tonight. She also mentioned that we had a good year in 2015 and she is waiting on the December bank statement. Jeannie mentioned that we had budgeted to donate $100 to AACA museum and $100 to AACA library, but the board recommended to double to $200 each this year. Billy made the motion to accept the board s recommendation and Henry Gaither, Jr. seconded the motion. We voted on the recommendation and the motion carried. Billy asked if we accept the December minutes as written. Henry Gaither, Jr. made the motion and John Cox seconded the motion. January Treasurer s Report Our members have paid their dues and I have sent the annual report with our membership roster to National. I will have a 2016 membership list available at our February meeting. Meeting Minutes for January 2016 (con t.) Jeannie Johnson Larry and Elizabeth Coble were presented with the Les Joyner Award for their 1969 Ford Mustang at the NC Region s Annual Meeting. Congratulations to the Cobles! Henry s program tonight was White Elephant Bingo! He said the game would be from 6 to 8 PM. A item or prize could only be stolen once and a person could only win once--otherwise we would be here all night. During the game there were many winners and some stolen gifts. The game started out with Rick Holmes winning and choosing the country ham for his prize, but it was stolen the very next game by Lynn Pickett. The winners started coming one right after another... Billy, Bob and Ed Burns all yelled bingo together and picked out a prize each. Almost all of the prizes were stolen from the original winner. The program finished up around 7:10 PM so Billy called for us to adjourn. Henry made the motion and Butch seconded the motion. Cathy Dover
