Order of Service STAND M: In the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. CONFESSION OF SINS Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. LORD, HAVE MERCY God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 1

PRAYER AND PRAISE In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. GLORY TO GOD 2

3

PRAYER OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray Almighty God, you sent your one and only Son as the Word of life for our eyes to see and our ears to hear. Help us believe what the Scriptures proclaim about him and do the things that are pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lies and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. BE SEATED 4

THE WORD FIRST LESSON Judges 13:6-24 6The woman went and told her husband, A man of God came to me, and he looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask where he was from, and he did not tell me his name. 7 But he did say to me, Listen! You will be pregnant and give birth to a son. So now, do not drink wine or beer, and do not eat anything unclean, because the young man will be a Nazirite dedicated to God from his mother s womb until the day of his death. 8Then Manoah pleaded with the LORD, Please, Lord, the man of God whom you sent please let him come to us again, to teach us what we are to do for the young man who is to be born. 9God heard the voice of Manoah, and the Angel of God returned to the woman while she was sitting in the field. Once again her husband Manoah was not with her. The woman ran quickly and told her husband. She said to him, Come, see! The man who appeared to me came to me again today. 11Manoah then got up and followed his wife. He came to the man and said to him, Are you the man who spoke to my wife? He answered, I am. 12Manoah said, Now, when your words come true, what will be the rule for the young man and his actions? 13The Angel of the LORD answered Manoah, The woman must be careful concerning everything that I said to her. 14 She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine. She must not drink wine or beer, and she must not eat any unclean thing. Everything that I commanded her she must observe. 15Manoah then said to the Angel of the LORD, May we persuade you to stay, so that we may prepare a young goat for you? 16But the Angel of the LORD said to Manoah, Even if you keep me here, I will not eat any of your food, but if you make a burnt offering, offer it up to the LORD. (Manoah did not yet know that he was the Angel of the LORD.) 17Then Manoah said to the Angel of the LORD, What is your name, so that we can honor you when your words come true? 18The Angel of the LORD said to him, Why do you ask about my name? It is wonderful. 19Manoah took the young goat and the grain offering, and he offered them on the rock to the LORD, who did something wonderful as Manoah and his wife were watching. 20 As the flame rose from the altar toward the sky, the Angel of the LORD ascended upward from the altar in the flame. Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell facedown to the ground. 21 The Angel of the LORD did not appear to Manoah and his wife again, but now Manoah knew that he was the Angel of the LORD. 5

22Manoah said to his wife, We will certainly die, because we have seen God. 23But his wife said to him, If the LORD wanted to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, and he would not have shown us all these things, nor would he have let us hear this message at this time. 24The woman gave birth to a son, and she named him Samson. The boy grew, and the LORD blessed him. PSALM OF THE DAY Psalm 40 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me. For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me. Refrain 6

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain SECOND LESSON Romans 10:13-17 13Yes, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 14So then, how can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one about whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without a preacher? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news of peace, who preach the gospel of good things! 16But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who believed our message? 17 So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through the word of Christ. ANTHEM Feed My Lambs Sr. Choir 7

STAND GOSPEL Luke 5:1-11 After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation sings: One time, while the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. 2 He saw two boats there along the lakeshore. The fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 Jesus got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the shore. He sat down and began teaching the crowds from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into the deep water, and let down your nets for a catch. 5Simon answered him, Master, we worked hard all through the night and caught nothing. But at your word I will let down the nets. 6When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were about to tear apart. 7 They signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. 8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus knees, saying, Go away from me, because I am a sinful man, Lord. 9 For Peter and all those with him were amazed at the number of fish they had caught, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear. From now on you will be catching people. 11After they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him. After the Gospel, the congregation sings: 8

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. BE SEATED 9

OFFERING Members of Peace support their Gospel work together with this offering. Our guests are not expected to participate in it. We do ask that you fill out a connection card and drop it in the offering plate. Thank you! STAND PRAYER OF THE CHURCH May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us, that his way may be known on earth, his salvation among all nations. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O God. May all the peoples praise you. Lord God, King of the universe, direct the governments of the world so that we may live quiet and peaceful lives. Protect us from crime and war. Let freedom of religion flourish, that the gospel may be freely preached throughout the world. Cast down rulers who oppress their people. Remove governments who oppose the gospel. Bring relief to persecuted Christians. Then the earth will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. Bless our church with pastors and teachers who faithfully proclaim your Word. Lead many young men and women to study for the preaching and teaching ministries. By the power of your gospel, motivate them so that they do not become discouraged but continue in the course you have set before them. Then the earth will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. Hear us as we pray for a family member, a friend, or for others who do not yet believe in you. Silent prayer. Make us the answer to our prayers for others. Move us to share the gospel with those for whom we have just prayed. Bless the preaching of the gospel everywhere, here 12

among us and in the far corners of the world. Let your kingdom come to us and to many others. Then the earth will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him. Amen. LORD S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. PREFACE The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. It is good and right so to do. THE SACRAMENT It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lived among us as a human being and revealed his glory as your only Son, full of grace and truth. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song: 13

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY WORDS OF INSTITUTION Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my (+) body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you; this is my (+) blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen. 14
