THE.ROB.BLOG It s time to do this thing. What thing, you ask? The Facebook article that has been bouncing around in my head, I reply. Social media is now woven into our culture. In fact, if you don t have an FB page you may be considered socially backward you know, relying on outdated methods to improve relationships like TALKING TO PEOPLE. However, with all the good comes the bad. Social scientists are telling us that some users experience loneliness with a 1000 friends. FB may contribute to depression due to the comparison of your life to another. (They get to go, do, have and you don t.) The other downside is what I call Facebook stupid. Harsh, I know, but so true. So, let the Robster offer you, the Believer, a few tips to enhance your social media (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn) experience. Here goes Engage the brain before hitting post. Seriously did you think this through? Funny to you but hurtful to another is not the best use of your time. Not every thought that comes into the aforementioned brain HAS TO BE POSTED. Keep some things private. Please. Offended by someone s post? Talk it out don t type it out. Why? I don t care how many smiley faces or emoticons to attach to something, people need to see the facial expressions and voice cues to know what you really mean. If you don t want it known, don t post it. FB s new setting now helps us better understand eternity. It s there for the duration. So, if they (pictures, comments) might compromise your witness by being misunderstood, just say no! (See #1) Oh, and be prepared for a brother or sister to confront you on it. (Aawwk-wwaarrdd.) Your decision. Realize that you don t have to. The compulsion to check your page 25+ times a day is what I m talking about. Not trying to play convicting spirit here but, holy cow! Have you spent any time in the Word today? You know, those FAITHBOOK pages you keep hearing about. The latest info on somebody s bad haircut (or kitty cat adventures) may not really help you make it through the day. (BTW guys, staring at those kitten pics slowly sucks the testosterone out of your body.) Just saying Social media in itself is not a bad thing. Don t let Satan make it that way in your life. Finally, WWJD. Would Jesus have a Twitter account or an FB page? He wouldn t have Facebook but would have Twitter. Why? He doesn t want FANS He wants FOLLOWERS. (Yeah, a reach just go with it.) Your ever socially conscious and needing more FB friends, Pastor Rob JOIN US FOR FIRST BAPTIST S GOT TALENT! Sunday evening, August 23 6:00 p.m. We have so much talent here at FBCH and it is always great listening to our folks perform. Young and old are encouraged to participate! So sign up now by calling Betty at the church office.

What s happening in FBCH Student Ministry? In July, our summer activities had to change a little bit on the fly due to weather and other random reasons. On July 1 st, we had a combined night of our students participating in deliver church welcome packets to prospects as well as a fun board game night. July 8 th, we had an open gym night at the ROC. Our annual mission trip to St. Louis was July 10-17. We had 17 students and 3 adults go this year. While we were there our students shared the love of Christ with children at Jewel Baptist Church, which was our ministry site location. Our students not only saw God work through their lives, but also got to see God work in their individual lives as well. August is now upon us which means hot weather, end of summer, and back to school. On Wednesday, August 5 and August 12 there will not be any student ministry activities. We will be back on a normal Wednesday night schedule starting August 19 th. Stay tuned as well because we hope to have another Back to School Lake Day in August too. << St. Louis Mission Project Group Picture This summer God has allowed FBCH to invest in the life of Wesley Perkins, our intern, through the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He has helped lead our students closer to Christ this summer. He has done everything from teach Sunday school, hang out with students, plan and implement activities, go to camp, go on the mission trip, and most of all build intentional relationships. Thank you so much from myself, the students, and the FBCH family. Ryan Wesley Perkins-intern testimony When I initially applied for this position (way back in March), I was quite convinced that it was what God wanted me to do for the summer. It would give me an opportunity to grow in my spiritual walk and to help youth grow in their relationship with God. It would also give me an opportunity to use some of my passions and spiritual gifts to teach and disciple. Additionally, I would be able to go to my first church camp and on my first mission trip things I have wanted to do for a long time. However, the devil used my circumstances to break down my conviction and relationship with God, so much so, that when I started the internship here at the beginning of June, I was not in a very good place spiritually. God has been using this internship to really work on getting me back to a place of growth and restoring my relationship with Him. By showing me what it looks like to live a life in ministry, God has been revealing to me the importance of keeping my time intentional and focused and of living a disciplined, obedient life. He has also been helping me to interact with people that are not college students. This is not the easiest thing to do if you have only been around college students for four years. So, despite a rough transition into the summer, I have come to really love this internship. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to hang with the youth on Wednesday nights and at camps (Camp Siloam was awesome!). While I haven t had the opportunity to hang with the youth on an individual basis as much as I would have liked, I do pray that I have managed to impact their lives in some small way this summer, for it is often the small things that go the furthest (Matthew 13:31-33). Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest it its branches. He spoke another parable to them, The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened.

BACK TO SCHOOL PRAYER on School Campuses Sunday evening, August 16th (look for information in the Sunday bulletin) One of the best ways you can prepare your children this year as they go back to school is through prayer. Praying scripture over them is one of the most powerful ways to pray. Please join us at a school campus of your choice as we pray for our children. Prayers for Peace: Isaiah 26:3, Philippines 4:6-7, Romans 5:1 That our children will experience the peace of God this year that exceeds all understanding. That you Lord will guard their hearts and minds and keep them trusting in You. That they will develop a spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving as they look to You daily for their needs. Give them the capacity for joy that bubbles up from Your peace. Prayers for Protection: 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Psalm 46:1, John 17:15, Psalm 91 Lord keep evil far from them and help them to trust You as their refuge and strength. Make them strong and courageous in the presence of danger. Let them know that their only safe place is in Jesus. Prayers for Purity: Psalm 51:10, Matthew 5:8, I Timothy 1:5, I Corinthians 10:13, Psalm 19:14 Lord, we pray that you will create in our kids a clean heart and that You would constantly renew a right spirit within them, keeping their thoughts and actions pure and motivated by love. Guard them from temptation and let them know You are always faithful to give them a way out and help them to endure. Prayers for Passion: Psalm 42:1, Matthew 22:37-39, John 13:34-35 We pray that they will develop a passion for the things of God. That they will thirst for You Lord and Your Word and will love You with all of their heart, soul and mind. Give them a generous heart to love others as God loves them. That they will always work and study with excellence desiring a servant spirit of greatness. Prayers for Perspective: Galatians 2:20, Matthew 28:18-20, Philippians 1:21, Colossians 3:1-2, Ephesians 3:17-20 Lord help them to develop an eternal purpose. Help them to see every challenge through Your eyes. To be unafraid to share the good news of Jesus wherever they go. To set their minds on things above and to be rooted and grounded in the love of Jesus. We pray that they will be filled up with Jesus from morning til night. Mission Canada We had an awesome Mission trip to Canada! Larry Brandt was our leader. Myself, Bob Johnson, David Stahler and Todd Richardson made up this team. We stayed in the little tourist town of Magog, Canada where the Axe21 church of Sherbrooke, a town around 30 miles away, is planting a new church. We helped in the construction phase last year and we were able to help again this year. We also helped Axe21 church move 8 families to their new apartments. We saw first hand what authentic Christianity is all about...where families had given up their jobs and moved to this location to work with the Axe21 church to help people come to know Christ. Many thanks to our church family who make going on these wonderful mission trips possible. It is a joy to represent our church and our Lord Jesus Christ as we take the Good News to other countries. It is with a grateful heart when I say, Thank you! Blessings, Lance Read
