I asked Father Dan if I could take over the FYI this weekend, and he was happy (almost too happy) to oblige! The pastor surely needs a break too! I write this note with great joy in my heart to share with you some things I have recently observed! It is the presence of Family & Young Adults! I have been the Faith Formation leader for 22 years now and recently have been trying with all my might to re-start a Youth Ministry. It is obvious a larger portion of our Parish Family are those of a retirement age. However it was still very important to me to build up the Youth Young Adults and thus the Families of our parish. What we also have to realize is that we as a Parish are indeed Family!! I recently met with a few Parishioners who expressed an interest to build up this Youth Ministry and as we sat over coffee and began to really talk - we all seemed to realize more than just the importance of Teen based activities, were family based activities welcoming to young and old alike. But for the younger couples with their hands full to be able to find and know there are others here that can go on to continue St. Mark parish long into the future. We had taken for granted all those child like events that the school had provided and lost sight of that when the school closed its doors three years ago. We spoke of trying a Trunk or Treat an easy event to bring in small children and letting those young parents and even some grandparents know we were ready to try something new! And I am happy to report it was a success!! You can see some highlights on page nine of the bulletin. The next adventure is raising the funds for the Youth/Young Adult Ministry and we came up with the Vendor Event that will be November 22 in the Parish Center. Tables have been sold to 40 vendors and the income from that will help kick off a new ministry. Please show your support by coming out that day and shopping and noticing/recognizing the teens that will be baking for you and helping around the event! We find that when the family is involved, the teens love doing service that much more. The third phase discussed, was to begin a Youth/Young Adult ministry welcoming Parishioners and/or want to be Parishioners ages 18-35. Married or Single, we will be hosting a social event on January 6th to begin this new Ministry. Soon you will hear talks about this ministry by Sandra Howard one of our lectors who is spearheading this committee. This is what our Pope talks about, I have seen it taking root and now growing! There have been reaffirmations indicating how important and desired it is to welcome our young families back into the church. There is an overwhelming desire by these families and Young Adults and I know St. Mark is just the place to make them feel at home. Won t you join me no matter what age you may be, in praying for and sharing in the joy and the events of this new beginning? Margaret Garetano-Castor - Faith Formation & Family Ministry Next week s 2nd collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) needs your help! Your contribution will help defend the human dignity of those in poverty by helping the individual help themselves. It helps by improving education, housing and makes a huge impact on communities nationwide. Please be generous. BANNS OF MARRIAGE Are Being Announced for: Scott Fisher & Melanie Hensley DSA report: We currently have $116,194.53 collected and in pledges toward or Goal of $130,000.00. This leaves us with $13,805.47 still due. Please contribute to the Diocesan Services Appeal if you have not done so already. If your child is interested in being an Altar Server, please register with the Parish Office to be notified of training. Father Dan will be offering a training session in the near future.
