PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ As we celebrate Valen ne s Day later this week, I invite you to join us for our next concert at St. Beatrice. Appropriately, the concert is en tled, Each Day is Valen ne s Day. It will take place this Wednesday, Feb. 13 th at 7:00pm in church. The evening will feature singers from our St. Beatrice Choir, as well as guest singers, and a variety of musical styles will be presented. Tickets for the concert are $10, and you can s ll buy them at the rectory this week, or at the door on the night of the concert. The other item I want to men on is that later this month Pope Francis will be mee ng in Rome with bishops and other Church leaders from around the world to discuss the clerical sex abuse crisis in the Church. Our Archbishop, Cardinal Cupich, has asked all pastors to share a message of his to all parishioners regarding this upcoming mee ng. His message is printed below. St. Beatrice, pray for us, and for all vic ms of abuse. May God bless you. Fr. Rob MESSAGE FROM CARDINAL CUPICH My Sisters and Brothers in Christ, You may know that Pope Francis has called a mee ng in Rome of the presidents of bishops conferences and other leaders in the Church from around the world to address the crisis of clerical sex abuse of minors. As I work with others to organize this mee ng, I want to tell you that your concerns are close to my heart. I truly appreciate the input I have heard and received from you. I will carry your concerns and insights with me as I go to Rome. At the same me, I know how hard these past few months have been for you. I understand the anger and disappointment many feel as the Church suffers from the scandal of clergy sexual abuse, and the mishandling by some church leaders. Vic m-survivors have been courageous in telling their stories. Listening to them, taking measures to protect children and holding everyone accountable is the only response to make. We are and have been doing all of this in the Archdiocese of Chicago, and will con nue to provide support for vic ms, to report every allega on of clerical sexual abuse to civil authori es, and to permanently remove anyone from ministry who is credibly accused. I invite you to learn more about what the Archdiocese does to protect children, heal vic ms and make sure all priests and church leaders are held accountable, by visi ng our website: heal.archchicago.org. Pope Francis understands that abuse in the Church is a global problem that needs a global solu on. The Holy Father s aim in calling the mee ng at the end of this month is to make sure that every bishop in the world takes personal responsibility and is held accountable for how he handles these ma ers. But the pope also intends to make clear to all bishops the concrete steps for complying with this agenda. Ge ng this right is the priority. I also want to tell you how sorry I am for the harm done to vic ms, but also the harm done to you, the faithful who also have been deeply wounded by all of this. You con nue to be in my prayers, and I ask for yours, not just for me and the success of the February mee ng, but especially for our priests and all who work for the Church faithfully during these very challenging mes. They need our support now more than ever. God Bless you all.

We are also called to follow Jesus, who tells us that whatever you do to the least of mine, you do for me. Your gift to the poor can bring the love and peace of Jesus to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ. On Sundays, this selfgiving is often accompanied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Yet the act of giving from our abundance, and attending to the needs of the poor, opens us up to participation in the changes the Reign of God requires. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. St. Beatrice Church Presents Each Day is Valentine s Day Please join us on Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 7:00pm in church for a special Concert Featuring our own St. Beatrice vocalist s and guests. Warm your heart with song during this pre-valentine s Day Concert as an array of musical styles will be presented. February s prayer: The Act of Contrition What We re Learning 6 th Grade God s love is unconditional to everyone. God made a covenant with his people, a promise to remain in a relationship of love together. We talked about the Feast of the Epiphany that recalls the visitation of the three wise men and the importance and significance of their gifts to the Christ Child. 7 th Grade The Transfiguration is a unique view of Jesus. We learned that we have different roles just like Jesus had. On the Day of the Transfiguration Peter, James and John were surprised to see another side of Jesus, his glorious side. They were also surprised to see Moses and Elijah talking with their friend and to hear God tell them This is my Son, my chosen, listen to him! 8 th Grade We talked about holiness and what qualities make us holy and how we can live holy lives. We also learned about the four Marks of the Church. We discussed how the Holy Spirit helps guide our conscience and how through the Holy Spirit our sins are forgiven through the priest in the words of absolution.
