The festival promises to enhance the already rich cultural heritage of the Hubli-Dharwad- Gadag region by ushering in a mega cultural event like none other. Supported up by Infosys Foundation in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru, Puligere Utsav is a festival of local art and artistes with a national flavour and standing. Puligere Utsav is aimed as a people s festival; with over 120 artists performing of whom many are drawn from the surrounding regions of Gadag. Jugalbandis, varieties of folk and classical dances and instrumental music will entertain the audience. Each morning of the grand event will unfold with Udaya Raga concerts. A colorful folk festival will mark the inaugural evening with art form Mullina Kunitha near the temple precincts; a spiritual dimension will be a procession of Utsava murtis of the temple s main deities, amidst the beautifully lit temple complex. A little about Someshwara temple itself. A marvellous reflection of Chalukyan architecture, the temple complex houses many smaller temples, mainly dedicated to Shiva. The Garbha Griha, Navaranga, Mukha Mantapa and Ardha Mantapa are a few of the structures restored to their full beauty. Lakshmeshwara has a cultural and literary history, and was a centre of Jainism. A literally colourful adjunct to the festival is an on-the-spot painting event titled Landscapes of Lakshmeshwara. Well-known artists will paint the surrounding landscape of the temple complex.
