We will begin our study this month in Jericho with the story of Zaccheaus. When Jesus reached the tree that Zaccheaus was in, what did Jesus do?

Tuesday, March 1 For the month of March, we will be looking into verses that deal with the passion of Jesus. We will look at verses concerning the week leading up to his death. We will then look at his death and resurrection. Luke 19:1-10 We will begin our study this month in Jericho with the story of Zaccheaus. What was Zacchaeus occupation? Why was this job so bad? He was curious about seeing whom? Why could he not see him? What did he decide to do in order to see Jesus? When Jesus reached the tree that Zaccheaus was in, what did Jesus do? What was the end result of Jesus going to the house of Zaccheaus?

After Jesus left Jericho, He traveled to Jerusalem. We will look at some of Jesus works and words while He was in Jerusalem the week leading up to his arrest and crucifixion. Wednesday, March 2 Luke 19:28-34 When Jesus left Jericho, where was He going? (This was leading up to His crucifixion.) In verse 30, what does He send His disciples to get? Jericho, Israel What did they find in verse 32? They brought the colt to Jesus and then what happened? Thursday, March 3 Luke 19:35-38 In these verses we read about Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. What did the people do in verse 35? What did the people do in verse 36? There was some significance to this action. The significance to this action was that they were treating Jesus as their king. This was an action done to to a king. Where were they at in verse 37-38, and what were they saying? What was going on in verse 37?

Friday, March 4 Jesus will receive the honor due to Him. Either people will give it to Him voluntarily, or He will take it from whatever means possible. In the next passage, let s look at what Jesus said would cry out to Him if the people did not. Luke 19:39-44 What command did the Pharisees say to Jesus? Why do you suppose they were making this command? Jesus said that if they would become quiet, what would happen? What was hidden from the eyes of the people of Jerusalem? What does Jesus prophesy in verses 43-44? Saturday, March 5 Luke 19:45-48 Where does Jesus go once He enters into Jerusalem? What did Jesus say they were doing to His Father s house? As He entered into the temple each day, what was He doing and what were people trying to do to Him? They could not find any way to kill, and what does verse 48 say about the people?

Sunday, March 6 Luke 20:1-8 Here we see that the religious leaders were questioning the authority of Jesus Christ. We don t really ever have a reason to question Jesus. These religious leaders were questioning Jesus. In verse 2 we see how they questioned Him. What did they ask Him? Do they really have the right to question Jesus that way? Nobody really has the opportunity to question God that way. What did Jesus ask them after he was questioned? This question is absolutely brilliant. Jesus shows His authority. In verses 5-7, the men realized that Jesus had them trapped. They would not answer him. What was Jesus response when they didn't respond to them? Monday, March 7 Luke 20:20-26 In verse 20, we read that spies were sent to Jesus for what purpose? In verses 21-22, we see that Jesus is asked what? They were attempting to trap Him. What was His response in verse 23? After He asked that question, what did He say in verse 25? Did that take care of the trap?

Tuesday, March 8 Let s look at the idea of giving that Jesus brought up in Luke 21:1-4. This is the story of the widow s mite. Luke 21:1-4 What was Jesus seeing happening that was described in verse 1? What does Jesus see in verse 2? Jesus told the disciples in verse 3 that the widow did what? What did Jesus mean by that? This answer is described in verse 4. What does Jesus say about her in this verse? Wednesday, March 9 Luke 22:1-6 What festival was approaching in these passages? This was important because this represented the time that Jesus was going to be crucified. What were the chief priests and the teachers of the law looking to do to Jesus? Why were they not acting so quickly on that? Think about why the people were so afraid of the people? What does Judas do in this passage? What deal does he make with the chief priests and teachers of the law?

Thursday, March 10 These next few days of the quiet time will be studying the last supper in the book of Luke. Luke 22:7-13 What was sacrificed on the day of Unleavened Bread? Jesus sent Peter and John on ahead to do what? When Peter and John asked Jesus where He wanted them to prepare for the meal, what does He tell them? After they left Him and went into the city, what did they find? Here we can see Jesus plans to share the Passover meal with His disciples. This will precede His death on the cross. Let s look at the meal details Friday, March 11 Luke 22:14-20 What does Jesus reveal in verse 15 that He was going to do soon? What is the next time Jesus said He would have the passover feast with His disciples? In verse 19, we see that Jesus took bread and broke it. After He did that, what did He tell the disciples? He did the same for the cup in verse 20. What did He call the cup? Jesus instituted communion which we still practice today. We remember His death for us when we do this.

Saturday, March 12 Luke 22:24-27 The disciples still didn't have much understanding about Jesus plan for Jews and Gentiles alike. They didn't have an understanding about Jesus plan to redeem people through His death on the cross. In these verses we will read about a big argument. What was the dispute (argument) over in verse 24? When they argued over who would be the greatest, Jesus gave them an alternate way of thinking. This is the way He wanted them to think about leadership and service. What is the greatest as Jesus describes it in verse 26? In verse 27, we see that Jesus was mentioning the cultural idea about greatness. What their culture decided was greatest, was not what is greatest in the kingdom. Who does Jesus say serves in verse 27? Sunday, March 13 Luke 22:31-34 What did Jesus say Satan asked Him for permission for? In verse 32, we see that Jesus told Peter what? Jesus tells Peter that he will turn back. This means that Jesus predicts that Peter will do what? After Peter turns back, what does Jesus say He will do? What does Jesus predict Peter would do in verse 34? This was a low point for Peter in his ministry.

Monday, March 14 Luke 22:39-46 Jesus prays on the Mount of Olives. He prays here in the Garden of Gethsemene. Let s look at this situation. Jesus tells the disciples to pray so that they will not fall into what? Jesus goes a bit farther into the garden. He then does what? How was He strengthened according to this passage? He prayed so earnestly here that what was His sweat like? In verse 45 and 46, what does Jesus find the disciples doing? In our weakness, we can desire to do spiritual things, but still struggle. Tuesday, March 15 Luke 22:47- Here is this passage, we see Jesus arrest. In verse 47, who was leading the group to Jesus? What was the sign that Judas used to indicate who to arrest? What question does Jesus ask Judas here? What do the other disciples want to do to the people who arrested Jesus? What does one of the disciples do? In verse 53, what does Jesus say about that particular hour?

In the quiet time for today, we see a very difficult situation that Peter puts himself into. This was predicted by Jesus during the last supper, but finally comes to pass here after Jesus arrest. Wednesday, March 16 Luke 22:54-62 After Jesus was arrested, where was He led to? How was Peter following when Jesus was led to the high priests house? In verse 56, we see that a servant girl who was hanging around there saw Peter. What does she accuse Peter of doing? In verse 57, how does Peter react to that accusation? In verse 58, we see that someone else also accused Peter of being with Jesus. How does Peter respond to that accusation? In verse 59, Peter is accused one more time of being with Jesus. How does Peter react this third time? Once the rooster crowed after Peter denied Jesus, what did Peter remember? What was his reaction? We can learn many valuable lessons from this passage. One of which is the following: We will mess up and sin in our lives just as Peter did. Our reaction to this sin is important. We need to feel sorry for our sin and get forgiveness.

Thursday, March 17 Luke 22:66-71 In verse 66, the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law all met together and Jesus was led before them. What did they ask Him in verse 67? What was Jesus immediate response in verses 67-68. The people refused to believe the truth about Jesus. They asked Him if He was the Son of God. He tells them He is and how do they respond in verse 71? They don t believe that He is. Some people will never believe the truth about Jesus, but that doesn't excuse us from telling the truth to them. Friday, March 18 Next, Jesus was let off to meet Pontius Pilate. Now Pilate had the authority to crucify or set free. Normally, the entire future of the condemned would rest with Pilate in that situation, however, this was Jesus, so ultimately, it rested with Him. Luke 23:1-7 The Jewish crowd led Jesus off to meet with Pilate because they were seeking crucifixion to be done. They had no right to actually carry out that sentence. What does Pilate ask Jesus in verse 3? What conclusion does Pilate make in verse 4? What does Pilate conveniently do in verse 6? Pilate tried to get rid of the situation that was brewing over Jesus with the Jewish leadership.

Saturday, March 19 Luke 23:8-12 In verse 8, we read that Herod was excited to see Jesus. Why was he so excited to see Jesus? During this time, what were the chief priests and the teachers of the law doing? What did Herod and his soldiers do to Jesus? When Jesus was asked many questions, how did He respond? What did Herod s soldiers when they were questioning Jesus? Sunday, March 20 Luke 23:13-18 What does Pilate tell the Jews about Jesus once Herod sends him back to Pilate? He also mentions Herod. What does he mention about Herod? What was the crowd yelling in verse 18? The crowd was so easily swayed by the religious leaders. They were asking for a criminal to be released to them. Monday, March 21 Luke 23:18-25 Who is the crowd yelling for Pilate to release? What was the crowd yelling for in verse 20? In verse 23, we see the crowd winning over the pressure for Pilate to sentence Jesus to death. Pilate finally gives in. Look at verse 24. Why did he do this?

For these next sections, we will be studying the crucifixion. As we look into these verses, let s consider the tremendous sacrifice that Jesus made in our place. Tuesday, March 22 Luke 23:26-34 Jesus was forced to carry His own cross. That was the custom. In verse 26, who did they force to help Him carry His cross? He had to be in a very weakened physical condition. In verse 28, when Jesus was being mourned for, what did He tell the women who were mourning for Him? In verse 33, we see that two criminals were crucified on both sides of Jesus. He was crucified with criminals. What does Jesus say in verse 34? Wednesday, March 23 Luke 23:35-43 People were watching Him be crucified. What were they saying? In verse 36, who was also mocking Jesus? Even the criminals who were crucified on both sides of Jesus made comments. What were the two comments made? Given even the exact same situations, there are some who will believe and some who will not. What request and response happened between Jesus and the one criminal?

Thursday, March 24 Luke 23:44-49 This is the passage about Jesus death. What happened at noon? Why was this happening? How long was darkness over the land? What happened to the curtain of the temple? What did Jesus say right before he died? The Roman centurion believed who Jesus was when these events happened. This is proof that He was the Son of God. Friday, March 25 Today we will look at the burial of Jesus. Luke 23:50-56 What town was Joseph from who requested the body of Jesus after His death? What did Joseph do with Jesus body after it was given to him? These are actions that would be done to a person who truly died. Jesus truly died for our sins. The women also followed and saw where the body of Jesus was laid. What did they do after that? They were going to anoint his body.

Saturday, March 26 Today and tomorrow we will be looking at verses that deal with the resurrection of Jesus. This is the event that our faith hinges upon. Luke 24:1-8 On what day did the women visit the tomb and what part of the day was it? When they reached the tomb, what did they find? When they went inside the tomb, what was missing? This was a very moving situation for these ladies. They were probably on an emotional roller coaster. What did they see in the tomb, and what were they told? Sunday, March 27 (Easter Sunday) Luke 24:9-12 What did the ladies do when they came back from the tomb? In verse 11, we read about the disciples response to the women. What was their response? This was probably difficult to believe, although, Jesus did predict all this when He was still ministering to them prior to His death. Which disciple does Luke say visited the tomb once the ladies gave their report? John also went, but Luke did not mention him here. Peter still had unanswered questions.

Monday, March 28 Jesus made many post resurrection appearances prior to His going back into heaven 40 days after he arose. We will look at one here from Luke 24. Luke 24:13-24 How many disciples were traveling to Emmaus in this passage? What was the topic of their discussion? When Jesus came alongside the disciples who were talking, they did not recognize Him. This was miraculous. Jesus strikes up a conversation with them by asking them what? They tell him about what event? How does Cleopas describe Jesus in verse 19? What do they talk about in verse 22? These men were concerned about the events that had happened. They also didn't still believe that Jesus rose from the dead. Tuesday, March 29 Luke 24:25-30 What does Jesus say these disciples are for not recognizing His plan to die on the cross? What does Jesus begin to do after He mentions that they are foolish? In verse 30, what does He do with them which then enables them to know who He was?

Wednesday, March 30 Luke 24:31-35 Once they recognized who Jesus was, what happened to Him? What was their reaction in verse 32 that they talked about? After Jesus met with them, what did they immediately do? This needs to be the general reaction to Jesus changing our lives. We need to have an urgency to tell others. What all did they tell the disciples back in Jerusalem? Thursday, March 31 Luke 24:36-49 In verses 36 and 37, Jesus miraculously appears to the disciples. What do they think it was when Jesus appeared to them? In verse 39, what does Jesus want the disciples to notice about Him? You see, Jesus had flesh and bones after His resurrection just like He had before His crucifixion. What does He do in verse 42 that further helps us to understand what Jesus body was like after His resurrection? In verses 45-49, what important thing does Jesus do with His disciples? He was finally wanting them to better understand His plan so they could tell others about it after He went back to heaven. That is still what He wants His disciples to do now.
