PAUL S SECOND EPISTLE TO THE CORINTHIANS LEARNING HOW TO BE A HEAVENLY CHURCH IN A CARNAL WORLD 2 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 7:9-12 MEDIA REFERENCE NUMBER SM-819 NOVEMBER 24, 2013 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: developing and maintaining your new life in Christ. Part 2 SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Repentance, Attitude, Humility, Contrition Introduction to the Text; 2 nd Corinthians 7:9-12 2 Corinthians 7:9-12 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 12 Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. 1.) Is the reality of sin v. 9-10 1a.) Sin repented of leads to joy v. 9 1b.) Sin defeated leads to life v. 9-10 1c.) Sin ignored leads to death v. 10 2.) Is the awareness of holiness v. 11 2a.) To be in a state of grief, heaviness of soul, sorrowful. Be Careful Here Church That you lean upon your emotions, sorrow, sadness about your sin and not the blood of Jesus Christ. ( repeat offenders will hide behind their veil of tears and penance until they emotionally feel as though they have paid the price for their sin ) this is a man trying to be his own priest, in a manmade priesthood - by offering up tears and noise and lamentations that can never save. Heb. 12:15-16,17 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; 16 lest there be any fornicator or profane (to cross the threshold or to go too far) person like Esau 17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. << This Symptom Could Be Caused by Low H so see The Doctor today >> Is The Awareness Of Holiness 2b.) Is the practice of sanctification v. 12 Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you, in the sight of God, might appear to you. salvation s key is a life of expectancy (transformation) which leads us to embrace repentance because we can become more like Jesus To Practice Sanctification is to Rehearse It. The Origin of Sanctification is Found in Creation. Gen. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it (declared it to be): because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 3a.) Sanctification is provided by Jesus v. 12a 12a Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you, in the sight of God, might appear to you. 3

Sanctification is gifted by the Holy Spirit v. 12b 2 Th. 2:13 We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit AND belief in the truth, Sorrow in itself cannot produce anything except sadness of feeling. But godly sorrow produces change. Now repentance is a change within us both of thinking and of doing. We can tell if true sorrow is actually that, by seeing if it produces repentance. So godly sorrow cannot be measured by feelings or by tears, but by what it produces. What happens after the confession is what defines if the man be new. So he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. :26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them.
