Prayer Partners Needed: There are many Holy Hours with only 1 adorer. A prayer partner for these adorers would enable them to depend on each other and allow more flexibility with their schedule. ADORATION CHAPEL The Perpetual (24 hours) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available to us at Mercy Regional Hospital Chapel. If you are interested in becoming a regularly scheduled adorer or a substitute adorer, please phone 337-363-4533 for more information. As Bishop Fulton J. Sheen called it The Hour of Power! Fr. Tom s Joke of the Week A Catholic woman was sitting at a stoplight this morning. The driver in front of her was yapping on his cell phone and even though the light went green he didn t move. The light turned red again. The woman wasn t happy and began cursing up a storm and pounding on her horn. Suddenly there was a cop, gun drawn, tapping on her window. Very quickly the woman found herself in a holding cell downtown. After about two hours, the same cop came in and told her she was free to go. I knew it, she said smugly. I knew you couldn t arrest me just for yelling in my own car. You haven t heard the last of this. The cop replied, I didn t arrest you for shouting in your car, lady. I was behind you at the light and saw you screaming and beating your steering wheel and honking your horn and then I noticed the What would Jesus do? bumper sticker and decided you must have stolen the car. FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today is Good Shepherd Sunday as well as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Jesus says, I am the Good Shepherd, and I am the gate for the sheep. We should be attuned to the Good Shepherd s voice through daily prayer and follow Him. Let us pray for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life especially from our parish. There are two we can halfway claim through their mother. Rene Pellessier will be ordained a priest on my anniversary this June 10th and his brother, Stephen, will be ordained a deacon on May 27th. Their mother is Beth Lavergne who is from Sacred Heart Parish. Her mother was a Sylvester and therefore related to Fr. Joseph Lafleur. Rene was excited to hear we have his chalice because not only is he related to him but he will be a military chaplain. The interesting thing is that Rene, Stephen and their parents live two streets away from where my brother and I grew up. So that s two sets of brothers within two streets of each other all belonging to St. Mary Church. Then both my brother and I have served in their mother s home parish, Sacred Heart. Please keep them and all our seminarians in your prayers. This is commitment weekend for our Capital Campaign. We are up to 107% of our goal so now we keep 50% of monies collected beyond our goal. This weekend we are asking everyone to sign a card even if you have already pledged. So every family in church this weekend will be signing a card. Some will check a box that says I have already pledged, others will have a chance to pledge for the first time. Let s see how high we can go! If we collect enough money from the Capital Campaign we may not have to borrow money to pay for the interior church renovation. On Monday night I will be speaking at the Family Life Center at 5:30pm regarding the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima 100 years ago. Try to come if you can. Then on Saturday, May 13th, the exact 100th Anniversary of the first Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, we will have a special rosary after the 8:00am Mass in front of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in our Church. Before the Saturday Mass they will only pray a chaplet of Divine Mercy, so the rosary will be saved for after the 8:00am Mass. We will also have a consecration to Our Lady of Fatima at that time. Please come and honor her! I am very happy to announce the leadership team for the 1st Women s ACTS Retreat September 28th October 1st. This is the mission leadership from St. Anthony of Padua Church: Sarah Moser Fruge, director; Dana Landry, co-director; Aimee Summerlin, co-director; and Michele Lejeune, spiritual companion. Please keep them and the whole team in your prayers. I am also happy to announce the leadership for the 2nd Men s ACTS Retreat, November 30th December 3rd: Tad Richard, director; Junior Bergeron, co-director; and our very own Brad Fontenot, co-director. Please keep them all in your prayers. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies
