ORDER OF WORSHIP May 14, 2017 Fifth Sunday of Easter ~ Mother s Day Please sign and pass the Friendship Book ( pew pad ) where you can also record any prayer requests. Our prayer is that you will experience the presence of the Living God as we worship together. We invite you to focus your heart and mind in worship. * indicates please stand as you are able. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE Adagio Organ Charles-Marie Widor CALL TO WORSHIP: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand when I awake, I am still with you. from Psalm 139:13-18 (NIV) *OPENING HYMN: (a favorite of Judy Palpant) O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO (Hymn #531) (VERSE 1) O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee:

I give thee back the life I owe, that in thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be. (VERSE 2) O Light that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in thy sunshine s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be. (VERSE 3) O Joy that sleekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be. (VERSE 4) O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee; I lay in dust life s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red life that shall endless be. Jason Stuart Romans 8:35 39 (NIV) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

MINUTE FOR MOMS #1 Jason Stuart (a favorite of Faith McCallum) ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING (Hymn #356) (VERSE 1) All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing Alleluia, Alleluia! Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam, *SECOND HYMN: (VERSE 2) Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heaven along, O praise him, Alleluia! Thou rising morn in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening, find a voice, (VERSE 3) Thou flowing water, pure and clear, make music for thy Lord to hear, Alleluia, Alleluia! Thou fire so masterful and bright, that givest us both warmth and light, (VERSE 4) All ye who are of tender heart, forgiving others, take your part, sing his praises, Alleluia! Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, praise God and on him cast your care, (VERSE 5)

Let all things their Creator bless, and worship him in humbleness, O praise him, Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, three in One, Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12 (NIV) MINUTE FOR MOMS #2 Ryan Moore Call to Confession Friends, the scriptures remind us to confess our sins to God and to one another. We confess to God, who already knows every thought and act, and for whom all aspects of our life are open and laid bare. We confess to others as a point of accountability for our sins, and in hope of healed relationships. TIME OF PRAYER Prayer of Confession Jesus, we confess that we have missed the mark of your call to honor your name and sacrificially love your people. We have even failed to love and honor our own mothers as you commanded. We have said words that should not have been spoken, and left unsaid words of praise and thanksgiving that would have declared your gracious provision. Have mercy on us, and show us how to live in the abundant love you taught. Give voice to your words as fountains of living water in our lives. [Silent Prayer] Declaration of Forgiveness

Friends, we have come to the Almighty One who know us and deeply loves us. To each one of us he says, I have washed you and made you clean. Where you have been blind, open your eyes and see. Where you have been crippled, rise up and walk. In Christ s name, you are forgiven. INSTALLATION OF ELDER TOM TIFFANY AND PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Rev. Don Meekhof Luke 1:46-55 (NIV) 46 And Mary said: Mary s Song Scott Edminster My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors. MINUTE FOR MOMS #3 OFFERING OF OURSELVES & OUR GIFTS Invitation to the Offering Scott Edminster John McCallum

James 1:17 reminds us that Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. We take time now to say thank you and offer our own gifts that overflow out of gratitude. *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below Praise him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Thanksgiving/Dedication Lord Jesus, here are the gifts of your people. Multiply them beyond our imagination so that your name may be glorified and your kingdom built on the earth. Amen. You may bring your offering and light a candle at the front or back of the sanctuary. The children are excused at this time to attend Junior Chapel. *CLOSING HYMN: (A favorite of Jenny Edminster) WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS (Hymn #212) (VERSE 1) What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul, what wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, to bear the dreadful curse for my soul! (VERSE 2) When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, when I was sinking down, sinking down; when I was sinking down beneath God s righteous frown, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul! (VERSE 3) To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing, to God and the Lamb I will sing! To God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM, while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing, while millions join the theme, I will sing! (VERSE 4) And when from death I m free, I ll sing on, I ll sing on, and when from death I m free, I ll sing on! And when from death I m free, I ll sing and joyful be, and through eternity I ll sing on, I ll sing on and through eternity I ll sing on.
