Dear Friends in Christ, From the Desk of Father Reed C. Mungovan, S.D.S. Today from the book of the prophet Jeremiah we hear God talking about a happy person who trusts in God. God compares the person who trusts in Him with a tree planted by a river. The roots of the tree reach out to the river. The person who trusts in God reaches out to God in many ways. We want to trust in God more and more. May we reach out to God in daily prayer, by reading scripture, and by trying to see Jesus in those we meet. There are so many ways to reach out to God. Let us continue reaching out each day of our lives. May God bless you abundantly, Fr. Reed Christopher Mungovan, SDS Holy Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, pray for us. WE DID IT!!!!!!! Thank you so much to all who contributed to the Crib Club Baby Shower and Fundraiser for Women's Care Center. We were able to reach our goal of $1000.00 to support a mother through her pregnancy until her baby is 2 years old. We also were able to supply the Crib Club Store with $725.00 worth of inkind donations. Sarah Campbell from the Women's Care Center was so appreciative to receive the baby items and monetary donations: "Thank you so much to MGC for their incredible generosity. It is a blessing to us." What a wonderful effort for a crucial cause!!! Thank you all for supporting the preciousness of life and the family. BUILDING A CULTURE OF LIFE THE PRINCIPLES OF CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING In today s world where the most vulnerable are overlooked and disregarded, Christ calls us to accept and support the unconditional dignity of every human life. The Milwaukee Westside Catholic Churches (St. Catherine, St. Sebs, and MGC) have agreed to focus on building a Culture of Life in ourselves, our Parish communities, our families, our neighborhoods, our city as well as our state, our nation and our world. The Principles of Catholic Social Teaching are a rich treasury of wisdom about building a just society& living a moral and satisfying life is an increasingly divisive world. Open your minds and hearts to reviewing the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching you will certainly find them absolutely compelling! 1. Life & Dignity of the Human Person God made each person, thus every person is precious and should be protected. 2. Call to Family, Community, and Participation All humans have a right to participate in society, seeking together the common good of all. 3. Rights and Responsibilities every human being has a right fundamental right to life and a duty to make sure that everyone is safe and healthy and can have a good life. 4. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable God wants us to reach inside ourselves and find the will to help poor people who don t have enough food, medicine or a safe place to live. 5. Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers Work is more than just a way of making a living it is continuing the participation in God s creation. We must also respect the rights of workers to decent working conditions and fair wages. 6. Solidarity God made everyone so we are all brothers and sisters whatever our national, racial, economic, and biological differences 7. Care for the Gift of God s Creation As we become more & more aware of the ugly effects of global warming, we must accept the hard work of changing our behavior to protect our environment No, you are not expected to memorize these Principles of Catholic Social Teaching but know that they are the fundamental reasons behind many of the activities and prayers that will be forthcoming during 2019. Also, there will be a large poster in the Church Vestibule with all of the above themes listed for you to reference.
