SEALED IN MY DISCIPLES Published by Sowing the Word of God - May 4, 2018 Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples. What does this mean? Bind up what testimony? What does God mean when He says, "seal the law among My disciples? Let s examine each Hebrew word in this Scripture. The Hebrew word for bind up in this scripture, is Tsor, and means to shut up, fortify, bind, confine, as in make narrow or cramped. To make narrow or cramped reminds of Messiah's words about entering through the narrow gate. Matthew 7:12-14 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples. The Hebrew word for testimony is Teudah, and means to bear witness, testify, attestation (i.e. confirmation, evidence, proof), precept (i.e. teaching, law, edict), give warning, to duplicate or repeat, or call to record. The Hebrew word for seal is Chatham, and means to seal up (i.e. to stop up), affix one s seal, lock up, or mark. 1
The Hebrew word for law is Torah, and is specifically the Law of God. It means law, direction, or instruction. What is translated as among my disciples is actually one Hebrew word pronounced bilimoodee. We can hear the word limood in the middle there, which is the Hebrew word for disciple. Limood means disciple, taught one, instructed, learned, used, or accustomed to (something), so when Yehovah says My disciples, He is saying, My instructed or taught ones. In this Scripture there are two added letters to the front and to the back of this word Limood. The letter beyt is added to the front. When the beyt is placed in front of a word, it adds the word in, on, with, or within to it. There is also the Hebrew letter yod added to the end of this word. When a yod is added to the end of a word it adds the word mine, or my to it. Bilimoodee means within or in my disciples. Bind up (fortify, confine, shut up, make narrow) the Testimony (evidence, proof, witness, teaching) Seal (lock up, mark, seal up) the Torah (direction, instruction) IN my disciples (taught one, instructed). The Testimony and the Law of God. What is so significant about these two things? Isaiah 8:20 To the Law (Torah) and to the testimony (Teudah)! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. There must be something important about these two things if God said anyone who does not speak according to the Law and to the Testimony do not have light in them ( no sun rising in them in the Hebrew.) There must be something important about these two things if God commanded them to be shut up and sealed within His disciples. Most of us understand what God s Law is; it is His instruction. The Torah is what God tells us to do, it is His commandments, His Way, His whole Word. What is this testimony? What is this evidence, witness, or proof that He is speaking of? Revelation 1:1-3 The Revelation of Yehoshua Messiah (Jesus Christ), which God gave Him to show His servants things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Yehoshua Messiah, to all things that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. 2
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yehoshua Messiah (Jesus Christ). Those who have the true Words of God, who keep the commandments given by God, have the testimony, the evidence or proof, of Yehoshua Messiah. Bind up (fortify, confine, shut up, make narrow) the Testimony (evidence, proof, witness, teaching) of Yehoshua Messiah Seal (lock up, mark) the Torah (direction, instruction) IN my disciples (taught one, instructed). John 5:39, 46-47 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? Do you see? The Law of Yehovah IS the testimony of Yehoshua Messiah. Therefore, if you do not hear or understand the Law (Torah) of Yehovah, neither will you be able to hear or understand the Words of Yehoshua Messiah; the One who rose from the dead. Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus (Lazarus means Help of God ), full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus (help of God) that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us. 27 Then he said, I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment. 29 Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent. 31 But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead. 3
What happens when we refuse to hear the Law of God? What happens when we say this word was done away with and it is not for me? If we refuse to hear the Law, then we cannot hear the words of Yehoshua Messiah, for He came speaking this Word. John 14:23-24 Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father s who sent Me. What happens when we refuse to believe that Yehoshua is the Messiah? What happens when we say He was just a man, and not the Savior of Israel? If we refuse Yehoshua Messiah, then we cannot understand the Law of God, for it is the testimony of Him. The Scriptures testify of Me Zechariah 7:8-12 Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, 9 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother. 11 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law (Torah) and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts. Show mercy and compassion everyone to his brother, but they refused to hear the Torah and the Words which Yehovah sent by His Spirit through the prophets! So do they refuse to hear the Torah and the Words Yehovah sent by His Spirit through Yehoshua Messiah! John 8:42-43 Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. Remember Messiah s words? Matthew 7:12-14 4
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. He did not come to destroy the Law of His Father, on the contrary, He came to deliver the Law of His Father to us. Matthew 5:16-18 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. 17 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. The Testimony of Yehoshua Messiah and the Law (Torah) of Yehovah have been shut up, meaning, they have been made secret, locked up within His servants the disciples; those whom He trusts. John 10:24-27 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Messiah (Christ), tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. Matthew 13:10-11, 34-35 And the disciples came and said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables? 11 He answered and said to them, Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been given." 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, 35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world. What was spoken by the prophet? Psalm 78:1-2 Give ear, O my people, to my law (Torah); Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, I will open My mouth in parables. Hear the Law (Torah) from My mouth. 5
Luke 8:9-10 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, What does this parable mean? 10 And He said, To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand. Bind up the Testimony, Seal the Law (Torah) IN my disciples. Jeremiah 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my Law (Torah) IN their minds, and write it ON their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Hebrews 10:15-17 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them, 17 then He adds, Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. This is why it is the great commission to go out and make more disciples. We must go out and make more instructed ones of Yehovah, because becoming a disciple is the ONLY way you will know the truth. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. John 8:31-36 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered Him, We are Abraham s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, You will be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. Psalm 119:44-45, 142 So I may always keep Your Law (Torah), forever and ever, 45 and walk about in freedom. For I have sought Your precepts. 6
142 Your justice is righteousness forever, and Your Law (Torah) is truth. Yehovah s Torah is His instruction; it is His truth. A disciple is a taught or instructed one; one who has been instructed (limood) by hearing and learning not from men, but from the Spirit of Yehovah directly. Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love Your law (Torah), And nothing causes them to stumble. Great peace comes to those who love the instruction of their Father. Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught (limood) by Yehovah, And great shall be the peace of your children. John 6:44-45 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught by God. Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Why do some reject the Testimony of Yehoshua as our Messiah and Lord? Why do some reject the Law (Torah) of God? The reason why some reject these things is simple. It is because they are not a taught one of Yehovah; they have received their instruction not from God, but from men. Mark 7:6-9 He answered and said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do. 9 He said to them, All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 7
Isaiah 29:9-14 Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunk, but not with wine; They stagger, but not with intoxicating drink. 10 For the Lord has poured out on you The spirit of deep sleep, And has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; And He has covered your heads, namely, the seers. 11 The whole vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed (Chatham), which men deliver to one who is literate ( one who knows the book in Hebrew), saying, Read this, please. And he says, I cannot, for it is sealed (Chatham). 12 Then the book is delivered to one who is illiterate, saying, Read this, please. And he says, I am not literate ( I do not know a book in Hebrew). 13 Therefore the Lord said: Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men, 14 Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvelous work Among this people, A marvelous work and a wonder; For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, And the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden. Whether we ve read the Bible or not, if we are not students of Yehovah who receive our instruction from His Spirit, then the Words of His Kingdom are not given to us to know. Because it has been given to you (disciple) to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been given." Luke 11:9-13 So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! Ask God for understanding of His Words without doubt, and then you will receive. James 1:5-8 8
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Proverbs 2:1-9 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; 8 He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. John 14:23-26 Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father s who sent Me. 25 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 1 John 2:24-27 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us eternal life. 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. Because it has been given to you (disciple) to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been given." 9
And they shall all be taught by God. Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. I will put my Law (Torah) in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yehoshua Messiah. Bind up the testimony, Seal the Torah in my disciples. 10
