THE GATHERING All stand when the choir and clergy enter HYMN NEH 195 TANTUM ERGO Lord of all the saints, we praise thee for those two apostles blest, whom this day thy people honour, who on earth thy name confest: serving here the Christ who called them they have gained the promised rest. Unto heaven s splendour raisèd, there made perfect by thy grace, they, by angel hosts surrounded, ever see their Father s face, where the songs of exultation sound from all the ransomed race. Simon, may thy zeal inflame us Christ our Lord to serve with might; blessèd Jude, thou true disciple, we thy faithfulness recite: may God grant us grace to follow till, with thee, faith ends in light. Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son, glory be to God the Spirit, ever Three and ever One, one in love and one in splendour, while unending ages run. Amen. GREETING In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. THE CONFESSION The saints were faithful unto death and now dwell in the heavenly kingdom for ever. As we celebrate their joy, let us bring to the Lord our sins and weaknesses, and ask for his mercy. Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen. THE ABSOLUTION Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The choir sings the KYRIE and GLORIA Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te. Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam. Domine Deus, Rex cælestis, Deus Pater omnipotens, Domine Fili unigenite Jesu Christe. Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris. Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram. Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus altissimus, Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen. Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill towards men. We praise you, we bless you, we worship you, we glorify you. We give thanks to you for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God the Father, O Lord, the only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You sit at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you only are holy. You only are the Lord. You only are the most high, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

COLLECT Let us pray. Almighty God, who built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone: so join us together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. All sit FIRST READING THE LITURGY OF THE WORD A reading from the prophet Isaiah. Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem. Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement; when the overwhelming scourge passes through it will not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter ; therefore thus says the Lord God, See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: One who trusts will not panic. NRSV Isaiah 28: 14 16 This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

All stand GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. I do not call you servants but friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. GOSPEL READING The Lord be with you and also with you. Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, Servants are not greater than their master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also.

If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. It was to fulfil the word that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. John 15: 17 end This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. All sit HOMILY The Revd Kirsty Ross, Chaplain All stand for THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Remain standing THE PEACE THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT May the God of peace sanctify you: may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before him at the coming of our Lord Jesus with his saints. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you. All may exchange the Peace A HYMN is sung by all as the altar is prepared NEH 206 HAREWOOD Christ is our corner-stone, on him alone we build; with his true saints alone the courts of heaven are filled: on his great love our hopes we place of present grace and joys above.

Oh, then with hymns of praise these hallowed courts shall ring; our voices we will raise the Three in One to sing; and thus proclaim in joyful song, both loud and long, that glorious Name. Here may we gain from heaven the grace which we implore; and may that grace, once given, be with us evermore, until that day when all the blest to endless rest are called away. Words: 7th C. Latin trans. John Chandler(1806 76) Music: Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1840 76) THE PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS God our Father, keep us united in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER The Lord be with you and also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. We rejoice in the glorious splendour of your majesty for you have given us a share with Simon and Jude in the inheritance of the saints in light. In the darkness of this passing age they proclaim the glory of your kingdom. Chosen as lights in the world, they surround our steps as we journey on towards the city of eternal light where they sing the everlasting song of triumph. In communion with angels and archangels and all who have served you on earth and worship you now in heaven, we raise our voices to proclaim your glory, for ever praising you and singing: The choir sings the SANCTUS and BENEDICTUS Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt cœli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. All kneel or sit

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Simon, Jude, and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. BREAKING OF THE BREAD We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. The choir sings the AGNUS DEI Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

GIVING OF COMMUNION Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The clergy and choir receive Communion after which the congregation is invited to come forward. Those who receive Communion in their own churches are welcome to do so here. Those who do not receive Communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing. During the Communion the ANTHEM is sung O sacrum convivium (2005) O sacrum convivium in quo Christus sumitur: recolitur memoria passionis eius; mens impletur gratia et futuræ gloriæ nobis pignus datur. O sacred feast in which Christ is taken: the memory of his Passion is recalled: the soul is filled with thanks: and a promise is given to us of future glory. Words: St Thomas Aquinas (1225 74) Music: Steven Stucky (b. 1949)

All stand for the HYMN NEH 231 ALL SAINTS Who are these, like stars appearing, these, before God s throne who stand? Each a golden crown is wearing; who are all this glorious band? Alleluya, hark! they sing, praising loud their heavenly King. These are they who have contended for their Saviour s honour long, wrestling on till life was ended, following not the sinful throng; these, who well the fight sustained, triumph through the Lamb have gained. These are they whose hearts were riven, sore with woe and anguish tried, who in prayer full oft have striven with the God they glorified; now, their painful conflict o er, God has bid them weep no more. These like priests have watched and waited, offering up to Christ their will, soul and body consecrated, day and night to serve him still: now, in God s most holy place blest they stand before his face. Words: Heinrich Theobald Schenck (1656 1727) tr. Frances Cox (1812 97) Music: melody from Geistreiches Gesangbuch (1698) adapted William Henry Monk (1823 89) Remain standing

POST COMMUNION COLLECT Let us pray. Almighty God, who on the day of Pentecost sent your Holy Spirit to the apostles with the wind from heaven and in tongues of flame, filling them with joy and boldness to preach the gospel: by the power of the same Spirit strengthen us to witness to your truth and to draw everyone to the fire of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you and also with you. THE DISMISSAL God give you grace to follow his saints in faith and hope and love; and the blessing of God almighty the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen. Go in the peace of Christ. Thanks be to God. All remain standing as the clergy and choir process out ORGAN VOLUNTARY Pari intervallo Arvo Pärt (b. 1935) A retiring collection will be taken in aid of this term s charities
