Happy Thanksgiving!! On December 4th our 2017 Confirmation Candidates will participate in the Rite of Acceptance at the 11a.m. Mass. Confirmation Class Collection for Homeless NEEDED: Items for Homeless Coalition Kits The Confirmation Class will be collecting items for kits for the homeless in Binghamton between now and April. The coalition is a group of the various organizations (e.g., VOA, YMCA, YWCA) that aid the homeless and work to re-establish them as contributing members of our community. Part of the process is to provide kits with the following specific, new items. They are currently running very low on these items and would appreciate anything we can provide. Most items can be obtained fairly inexpensively at the dollar store or places like Walmart, Target, Kmart. These are the needed items: Drawstring bags/backpacks, Bottles of Water or Gatorade, Insulated Socks, Thermal Underwear (L/XL), Warm Gloves, Warm Hats, Hand/Feet Warmers, Ponchos, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Wipes, Bus Pass, Fast Food Gift Card, Clif Bars, Cracker Sandwiches, Oranges, Ziploc Bags. All clothing should be men's sizes since women can wear them, too. Cash donations are also gratefully accepted. We will have a box in front of the school on Faith Formation weekends before/after each Mass. It will be at the Parish Center during the week. Flyers to put up in the community will also be available. Faith Formation at all grade levels will participate in Safe Environment Lessons on December 4th. These diocesan mandated classes are provided each year to keep our children alerted to the dangers that surround them. As parents, you are encouraged to review the materials online, or you can review hard copies in the FF office in the school. If you decide not to have your child participate, you must sign them out of this class. More details will be mailed to you this week. If you do not have them, please see Maria Kirk during Faith Formation on November 20th for a copy of the letter.

Page Three St. Francis of Assisi Parish November 20, 2016 A Thanksgiving Grace Gratitude is one of the most essential acts of worship. This grace before meals is a way to extend your gratitude to God for all those whose lives are intertwined with yours. Bless us, O Lord. And Bless these, your children, Who have planted and harvested And brought us this food. Bless us, O Lord, And Bless these, your children, Who still wait for such abundance To be brought to them. One is: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Syracuse, 240 East Onondaga Street, Syracuse, NY 13202 Checks can be made out to Hurricane Matthew Relief. This may assist North Carolina. The other is: Catholic Relief Services P.O. Box 17090 Baltimore, Maryland 21297-0303 Memoline: Hurricane Matthew These are agencies that can be trusted and are on the scene with their personnel. Currently, the following accounts have been setup, Weekly Donation, Repair & Maintenance, Catholic School Support, Catherine s Cupboard & Special Sunshine. You can now have your donations taken weekly, monthly or yearly. To set up an electronic giving schedule, visit our new church website at stfrancisbing.org. Here you can authorize to have your donations electronically transferred directly from your checking account, your debit card or your credit card to the parish. Click on the donation link listed on the website to get started. You must have an e-mail address to register online. If you don t have a computer or an e-mail address, call the Parish Center at 722-4388, and we will mail you an authorization form that you can fill out and return to us at your convenience. The Giving Tree The Giving Tree will be up the weekend of Nov 26th- 27th. If you are away and want to donate a gift, here are some suggestions: Diapers for newborn up to 3, warm hats & gloves for men & women, Children's new story books, infant sleep sacks or onesies size nb-6 months; bus passes or postage stamps. ALL GIFTS must be returned no later than DECEMBER 11TH, wrapped and tag on the outside telling us what the item is. All tags on the tree have to be accounted for, but extra gifts (new stuffed animals or toys) are always accepted as well. Thanksgiving Baskets Thanksgiving Baskets were given out this weekend, so every one should have a great Thanksgiving. Over 2,700 families signed up at Catholic Charities, and all were taken care of, plus each parish has the option to provide other needs as we learn about them. This year here at SFA we did 115 baskets, and due to your generosity, we were able to add fresh bread and apples to the basket plus, of course, a turkey or gift card as needed. Left over canned goods will be used to provide a Holiday Basket in Dec. to those who visit our pantry. A very sincere THANK YOU to all for your donations.

How do you show your love for Jesus? Question for Youth: This week we celebrate Christ the King. In the best sense of the word, a King is someone who cares for the people under his care, and also has authority over them. When have you felt Jesus care for you? How do you allow Jesus to have authority over you? Question for Adults: As you think about Jesus on the cross, having compassion on the good thief, what lesson do you draw from it for your own life?
