Epistle (p. 248)(Binder p. 42) Prokimenon (Tone 7): The Lord will give strength to his people; The Lord will bless his people with peace. Stichon: Give to the Lord, you sons of God, give to the Lord glory and praise. Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians )2: 14-22( Brethren, Christ is our peace. He it is who has made both (Jews and Gentiles) one, and has broken down the intervening wall of the enclosure, the enemy, in his flesh. He has voided the Law of commandments expressed in decrees, so that of the two he might create in himself one new man, and make peace, and reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having destroyed their enmity within himself. And as he came, he announced the good tidings of peace to you who were far away, and of peace to those who were near: because through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. Therefore, you are now no longer strangers or foreigners, but citizens with the saints and members of God s household: you are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole structure is closely fitted together and grows into a temple holy in the Lord; in him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in the Spirit. Alleluia (Tone 7): It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High! Stichon: To proclaim your kindness at dawn and your faithfulness throughout the night. Gospel (Luke 16: 19-31): The Rich Man & Lazarus At that time, the Lord told this parable; there was certain rich man who used to clothe himself in purple and fine linen, and who feasted every day in splendid fashion. And there was certain poor man, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, covered with sores, and longing to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. And it came to pass that the poor man died and was borne away by the angels into Abraham s bosom; but the rich man also died and was buried in hell. And lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried out and said, Father Abraham have pity on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said to him, Son, remember you in your lifetime have received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now here he is comforted whereas you are tormented. And besides all that, between us and you a great gulf is fixed, so that those who wish to pass over from this side to you cannot, and they cannot cross from your side to us. And he said, Then, father, I pray you to send him to my father s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they too come into this place of torments. And Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them. But he answered, No father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent. But he said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not believe even if someone rises from the dead. 1- Lord Jesus Christ our God, inspire each of us to hear Your voice amidst the noise of the world, touch the hearts and minds of all people to view their lives as opportunities to be of service. About SAMYA: The purpose of SAMYA is for the youth of the church to bond with each other, grow spiritually, have fun, and find support through the very tricky teenage years. We are refreshing the program this year so that it is more driven by what the teenagers want to learn, want to experience and what we know they need to live godly and fulfilled lives. If you have a teenager, please have them come meet us. We meet on the first and third Sunday of the month. Our next meeting is Sunday, November 4, 2018. We invite all teens to join us and find out more about the group and to come together. Contact: If you have any question please contact Shadi Jubrail at nvytrading@sbcglobal.net / (818) 694-3587 or Nurha Chahayed (818) 522-8411. SAYA Group (Young Adults): Who: SAYA is the young adult group at St. Anne s for people from 18 to 30. About SAYA: College and work are tough environments where one can practice their faith. Meeting a variety of people, engaging in the politics of the real-world, and being pressured on who they are and what they want to do in life are just some of the trials they go through. They are surrounded by the world who tells them that their faith is not important. However, in SAYA, they can bond with like-minded people: those who love their faith, their church, and have opportunities to discuss modern topics that pertain to their faith and their role in society as they become young professionals. SAYA meets on the second Sunday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Fr. Musil s office. Our next meeting is: Sunday, November 11, 2018. Every meeting will have a small Bible study followed by discussing future events. Contact: If you have any questions please contact Michael Khoury, President, at 818-321-4248. The Synaxis of the Heavenly Powers (November 8) The angels of God were celebrated by men from earliest times but this celebration was often turned into the divinization of angels (II Kings 23:5). The heretics wove all sorts of fables concerning the angels. Some of them looked upon angels as gods; others, although they did not consider them gods, called them the creators of the visible world. The local Council of Laodicea rejected the worship of angels as gods and established the proper veneration of angels in its 35 th Canon. In the fourth century, during the time of Sylvester, Pope of Rome, and Alexander, Patriarch of Alexandria, the present Feast of Archangel Michael and all the other heavenly powers was instituted for celebration in the month of November. Why precisely in November? Because November is the ninth month after March, and March is considered the month in which the world was created. Also, as the ninth month after March, November was chosen for the nine orders of angels who were created first. St. Dionysius the Areogapite, a disciple of the Apostle Paul described these nine orders of angels in his book, On the Celestial Hierarchies, as follows: six-winged Seraphim, many-eyed Cherubim, God-bearing Thrones, Dominions, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels.

We must remember that whatever we do in open or in secret, we do in the presence of our guardian angel. On the day of the Dread Judgment, the multitude of hosts of the holy angels of heaven will gather around the throne of Christ, and the deeds, words, and thoughts of every man will be revealed before all. May God have mercy on us and save us by the prayers of the Archangel Michael and all the bodiless powers of heaven. Amen. Saint of the Day: Hieromartyr Nicander, Bishop of Myra The Hieromartyr Nicander, Bishop of Myra was a disciple of the holy Apostle Paul s follower and fellow ascetic, the holy Apostle Titus of the Seventy (August 25), and they were ordained by him to the priesthood. Living the ascetic life amid incessant pastoral works, the saints converted many pagans to Christ. For this they were arrested and brought before the city prefect, Libanius. Neither flattery nor threats swayed the holy martyrs to renounce Christ. Then Libanius gave orders that they be tortured. The saints endured fierce and inhuman torments: they were tied to horses and dragged over stones, their bodies were raked with iron hooks, and they were cast into a hot oven. The Lord helped them endure things that a mere man by his own strength could not endure. Towards the end, iron nails were hammered into their heads and hearts. They were thrown into a pit, then covered over with earth. After enduring such a cruel death, now they live forever in the joy of the Lord (Mt. 25:21). St. Anne Relief Fund Article s Correction: In the article about St. Anne Relief Fund, that was published in last week s bulletin of Sunday October 28, 2018, we stated the following: We ve started our fund three years ago (After the Fundraiser Party of October 2015). We made a mistake, this information is not the correct one; the accurate information is: St. Anne Relief Organization was launched on September 2013 after the unrest and distractions caused by the wars in the Middle East, especially in Syria. We have been able to fundraise money through monthly breakfasts and mainly through the party of October 14, 2016. ******** 5 LITTLE STORIES { 1 } ONCE Upon a time, All villagers decided to pray for rain, on the day of prayer all the People gathered but only one boy came with an umbrella.
