Name Address Age Date of Birth Class Teacherʼs Name Lesson No. Christ s Birth - Promises Given level 4 Read Genesis : -24 Isaiah 7: 4-6 Bible Studies About Christmas Suggested Further Reading Romans 5: 2-2 Corinthians 5: 20-22 Timothy 2: & 4 Key Verse Isaiah 7: 4 What a dark hour for the world when sin broke the relationship between man and God! Yet even at that moment, God s promise of a Saviour shone like a bright star, bringing hope - even to us! Underline the correct answer in each set of brackets. (ADAM / EVE) was tempted first by the (SERPENT / SWAN / SLUG) to disobey God in the garden of (EGYPT / EDEN / EDOM). God asked the woman what she had done. What was her reply? Satan, who came as a serpent, used deceit, lies and doubts to cause Eve to sin. Adam chose to disobey rather than to obey and please God. This act of disobedience was man s FIRST SIN. Look up and write out Romans 5: 2 to discover the awful consequences of their sin. This was a sad day for the human race. As a result of their sin they were separated from God. (Genesis : 24) God in His great love gave the FIRST PROMISE of a Saviour. He would restore the broken relationship between man and God. 2 Bibletime

Lesson Read 5 and put suitable words in the spaces. As God pronounced judgement upon the serpent He said, I will put between you and the woman and between your and her _. He shall your and you will His heel. God was promising that one day, the Lord Jesus would be born and He would deal the death blow to Satan. He would provide salvation for those enslaved by sin. Fill in the correct numbers for each thing that God said:- to the serpent: You shall eat dust as long as you live. to Eve: In pain you shall bring forth children. to Adam: By the sweat of your face you shall eat. In what way was the earth also cursed, due to sin entering in? Much later, God gave another promise, through His servant, the prophet Isaiah. (See Isaiah 7: 4.) What was the special sign of which Isaiah spoke? What was His name to be? This means God with us. This was truly a wonderful sign. Nothing like this has ever happened, either before or since! When this took place men ought to have realized that God was at work keeping His promises. The birth of Christ was a momentous event in the world s history! It was an event that God had planned, foretold and miraculously controlled - the coming of His Son to be the Saviour of the world. Answer TRUE or FALSE to the following statements:- Only Eve sinned. We die because we are sinners. A virgin conceiving and bearing a son was a miraculous sign. The Saviour would destroy Satan and his works. God s promises always come true. 5 For teacher s remarks 20

Lesson 2 Lesson No. 2 Christ s Birth - Problems Faced Read Matthew : 8-25 Suggested Further Reading Galatians 4: 4 & 5 Timothy : 5 John 4: 9 & 4 Key Verse Matthew : 2 Please put your name here Joseph faced a very difficult decision. He discovered that Mary, whom he was shortly to marry, was expecting a baby! He must have wondered who was responsible. Write a sentence to describe what he planned to do. What was it about his character that made him act this way? (See Matthew : 9.) Underline who it was that visited Joseph as he thought about what he should do. His father Mary An angel David A priest Circle how the Lord s messenger appeared to Joseph. In a burning bush In a cloud In a dream Read 20 and put suitable words in the spaces and then finish the sentence to tell what the angel said to him. Joseph, son of do not to take as your because. Write out the Key Verse to find out what else the angel said. Ever since Adam and Eve had disobeyed God in Eden, a Saviour was needed. Throughout many centuries, God had been promising to send Him, and had been preparing the way for Him to come. Now the right moment for His birth had arrived - the Saviour was about to be born!

Lesson 2 Look up and write out Galatians 4: 4 which explains this point. 2 These events were the fulfilment of a prophecy given many years before. Read Matthew : 22 & 2 and refer to Study to discover the name of the prophet who had written these words. Underline the correct answer in each set of brackets. Behold, a (GIRL / WOMAN / VIRGIN) shall conceive and bear (A SON / A DAUGHTER) and they shall call the child s name (BETHUEL / SAMUEL / EMMANUEL). WORD SEARCH Answer the following AND circle your answers in the WORD SEARCH.. To whom did the angel appear? 2. The name of the Child s mother.. One of the Child s names. 4. The prophet s description of the mother. 5. The Child s conception was by the Spirit. 6. His people would be saved from these. Beginning at the arrow and reading from left to right, write down the remaining letters to discover the meaning of one of the Child s names. Write IN YOUR OWN WORDS what Joseph did when he woke up. If, like Joseph, we trust and obey God s Word, when we are faced with problems, we too can be assured of God s help. Remember that when we know the Lord Jesus as our Saviour, we can always tell Him about our difficulties by praying to Him. As our Friend, He is always ready to listen and to help us. What name did Joseph give to Mary s first-born Son? This name means God, the Saviour. For teacher s remarks 20

Lesson Lesson No. Christ s Birth - Prophecies Fulfilled Read Matthew 2: -2 Suggested Further Reading Isaiah 9: 6 Micah 5: 2 John 4: -6 Key Verse Matthew 2: 6 Please put your name here The birth of the Lord Jesus was no accident! It was not planned by Mary and Joseph, but it was wonderfully and carefully arranged by God Himself! As well as sending angels to announce the news to the shepherds, God gave an extraordinary sign in the heavens declaring His birth! What had been seen? Where were the men when they saw it? Why had these men travelled to Jerusalem? Who was king at the time of their visit? 4 What question did they ask the king? When the king had consulted his experts, they informed him that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem. Underline from what source they had obtained their information. The king s diary Newspaper headlines The prophet s writings This information had been written by Micah about 700 years before Christ s birth took place. Look up Micah s prophecy (Micah 5: 2) and using the facts given in it, cross out the WRONG words. The town s full name was Bethlehem Elkanah / Ephraim / Ephrathah. It was a small town in Judah / Joppa / Jezreel. Yet from it would come a Soldier / Ruler / Builder over Iturea / Issachar / Israel. 4

Lesson The last phrase in Micah 5: 2 teaches us that the Lord Jesus existed before He was born in Bethlehem. Turn to Isaiah 9: 6 and list ALL of the names of... the Child born... the Son given. 4 How wonderful it is to see that these prophecies of the Old Testament came true so accurately! The fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies in the New Testament times greatly strengthens our faith in the Bible as God s inspired Word. It also convinces us that prophecies yet unfulfilled will also come true, for example, our Lord s promised return. He said, If I go... I will come again. (John 4: ) Herod asked the Wise Men to let him know where the Child was, when they had found Him. What did he say he wanted to do? We know that, in so saying, Herod was insincere and deceitful. (See Matthew 2:.) The worship of the Wise Men was very different. Write a sentence to show how sincere and genuine they were in their worship of Him. Only one word answers are required to these points about the Wise Men s visit to see the young Child, Jesus.. Their reaction on seeing the star. 2. One of the gifts they brought to Him.. The place where they found Him. 4. What they did when they saw Him. The Wise Men saw Jesus as a Ruler and as someone worthy of their best gifts and highest adoration. Herod, however, saw Jesus as a rival and as a threat to his throne and rule. How do you view Him? Is He the supreme Lord of your life, or is He a threat to the way you are living? O O O O 2 For teacher s remarks 20

Lesson No. 4 Christ s Birth - Persecution Begins Suggested Further Reading Genesis : 5 Acts 0: 8-4 Read Key Verse Lesson 4 Matthew 2: -2 Hebrews 2: 4 Please put your name here Herod felt threatened by the birth of Christ. He ordered the slaughter of all the boys aged two and under, in the Bethlehem district. In doing this, he was hoping that the Lord Jesus would be among those killed! His plan was evil, as Satan was behind it. Genesis : 5 was being fulfilled, in part. Look up this Bible and write what it says about the relationship between the serpent (Satan) and the woman s seed (the Lord Jesus). At Calvary, the Lord Jesus was going to crush Satan and rob him of his power. This was one of the reasons for Him being born into our world! Write out the Key Verse which tells us this important fact. In the Bible Reading, we see that God was in control! God, through an angel, gave instructions to Joseph to save the young Child from Herod s wicked plot. Complete the WORD BLOCK.. Joseph was warned in this. 2. Joseph was spoken to by this.. Joseph was told to go to this place. 4. Joseph was fulfilling the words of the _. 5. The relationship of Mary to Jesus. WORD BLOCK Which word appears both down and across? Answer YES or NO to the following statements:- Joseph left Judea at night. He took only the young Child with him. He stayed in Egypt until Herod s death. The slaughter of the boys was prophesied. Hiriam was king at this time. 5

Lesson 4 When they eventually left Egypt, they fulfilled the words of Hosea, the prophet. (See Matthew 2: 5.) Write out his prophecy. Complete the CROSSWORD. Clues Down. The name of the Old Testament book which comes before Lamentations and is mentioned in 7. 2. The name of the king when Joseph returned. 5. Joseph s reaction when he heard about the new king. Clues Across. The king who ordered the massacre. 4. The town Joseph settled in. 6. The relationship of across to 2 down. 7. The area Joseph went to instead of Judea. 8. God spoke to Joseph by this means. Throughout this difficult time, God spoke to Joseph in dreams. Write down the three numbers where this happened. Each time, Joseph simply trusted God and obeyed His Word. Return your lessons to: PBS Centre or to:. CROSS WORD 4. 5. 6. 7. In our four studies, how many prophecies are mentioned between Matthew : 8 and Matthew 2: 2, as being fulfilled? The birth of the Lord Jesus Christ was miraculous yet ordinary, lowly yet majestic! We have read of men both worshipping Him and seeking to destroy Him! Throughout our studies we have seen God s great plan being unfolded. There are questions only YOU can answer: Do you believe - that the Baby born in Bethlehem is the Son of God? - that He came from Heaven? - that He died on Calvary s cross for your sins? - that He was raised from the dead? - that He provided salvation for you? God waits for your answer! A very Happy Christmas to you! Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift. 2 Corinthians 9: 5 8.
