ANSWER: Beginning with the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D., there have been 21 ecumenical (general) Councils. The last two were held in Rome. Vatican 1 took place in 1869 and ended abruptly in 1870. It occurred under the pontificate of Pius IX. Due to urgent political unrest between Italy and France, the meetings were abandoned; not closed. June 19, 2016 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. - Luke 9:23 We are not very good at denying ourselves in our society. Our current economic situation is evidence of what happens when people think they can have everything they want. Jesus calls us to set our own personal wants aside so that we have the resources to follow Him instead. WHAT MONEY CAN BUY! A bed BUT NOT sleep. Books BUT NOT brains. Food BUT NOT appetite. Finery BUT NOT beauty. A house BUT NOT a home. Medicine BUT NOT health Luxuries BUT NOT culture. Amusement BUT NOT happiness. A crucifix BUT NOT A Saviour. A church-pew BUT NOT heaven. Many people borrow funds from their 401K plan for non-retirement expenses such as college tuition and home improvements. Doing so damages their ability to develop sufficient assets to meet their retirement needs, and is generally a bad idea.

Effingham County High School Softball team will be holding a fundraiser on July 22nd. It will be a hit-athon, but it is also a great opportunity to bring the family out and where we will have music, concessions, bouncy house, games, and at the end of the night we will have a big screen movie on the softball field where people can put their blankets and enjoy a family movie.... It should be a great time. One of our players, Jami Bassett was in a car accident early this summer and she is currently paralyzed from the waist down. She is currently at Sheppard's hospital in Atlanta. A portion of the proceeds from our hit-a-thon will go to help the Bassett family with some of their medical expenses. Thank You I would like to thank all of my St. Boniface Parish family for the love, support and prayers during my recent hospitalization. I still have some healing and tests to do before my gallbladder can be removed so please continue your prayers. God heard your prayers for me and was pleased. I can not express enough my gratitude and love for my parish family. --Linda Santos Congratulations Congratulations to Jolene Canales on receiving the sacrament of First Holy Communion today at the 11 am Mass. May God Bless you today and always. Announcement Our congratulations go out to Patrick & Jennifer (Kavanaugh) Gleaton on the announcement of their soon to be parents! Light Housekeeping Needed Former parishioners, Maureen & Gean Santoro, are looking to hire someone for some light housekeeping and cooking. They prefer someone from the church. If you would like to make a little extra money on the side and can help them, please contact Gean at 912-826-2497. The Knights of Columbus (largest Catholic lay organization in the world) has two career opportunities for a Catholic gentleman to serve the Catholic community 1. Manager (experience required) for the Southern half of Georgia, over seeing local representatives with approximately 10000 Catholic family members. 2. Local representative (no experience required - training provided) assigned to 800 families with choice of several cities such as; Macon, Valdosta, Columbus, Millidgeville, Savannah or other local towns. Present and provide member benefits such as scholarships, widows/orphans free benefits, free accident life insurance, conduct financial needs analysis and present retirement and insurance solutions. This is a career that lets you do well for yourself while also doing good for others. A career where every meeting starts with a prayer, where the work you do is in the name of a Catholic priest (Father Michael J. McGivney) who is being considered for sainthood, and where your clients share with you a deep love for the order and the Church. This could be a life changing experience for you or someone you care about.
