Proclamating Truth To The Powers Eph. 3:10 [God s] intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms

As followers of Jesus and citizens of his kingdom, we are called to live and confess God s wisdom and truth in the face of the powers that seek to deceive and oppress us and all other people. We stand united in our identity in Christ and united in our resolve to speak the truth, renounce all lies and end the dominion of the powers in this land.

We are grateful for the many benefits we enjoy as Americans and for the good America has done. But as citizens of the kingdom, we are called to also confess the sins of our history and bring an end to their oppressive effect on our neighbors and us.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to manifest the one new humanity Jesus died to create. We renounce the sin of our ancestors who divided humanity into difference races and oppressed their neighbors on this basis.

We are called to love, serve and bless all people, even our enemies We renounce the sin our ancestors when they violently conquered the native people of America and violently enslaved the people of Africa.

We are called to practice justice and honesty in our dealings with others. We renounce the sin of our ancestors when they stole land, broke treatises and treated natives and others unjustly.

We are called to be a people who know the truth and are set free by the truth. We renounce the myths of American culture that continue to oppress some and privileged others.

We renounce the myth that Christopher Columbus discovered America and that it was Manifest Destiny for white Europeans to conquer and rule nonwhites in America. We renounce the myth that America is or ever was a Christian nation, for it has never treated its enemies in a Christ-like manner.

We renounce the American mythology that depicts the cowboys as the good guys and the Indians as the bad guys. We renounce the myth that prospering in America has only been a matter of individual choice and individual labor.

As followers of Jesus, we declare that we know the truth, and the truth has set us free. We will no longer be deceived, manipulated and oppressed by the powers!

As new creations in Christ Jesus, we have been set free from the sins and lies of our ancestors. We will stand fast in this freedom!

We have been set free from the idolatry of nationalism and the sin of racism. We will stand fast in this freedom!

We have been set free from the need to hoard wealth, possessions and food. We will stand fast in this freedom!

We have been set free to love unconditionally, live generously and serve sacrificially. We will stand fast in this freedom!

We have been set free to tear down walls and build bridges. We will stand fast in this freedom!

With our lives and with our words, we declare to the powers Jesus is Lord! Jesus is King! Jesus is victorious! Jesus has set us free! And we will stand fast in this freedom!
