Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church January 27, 2019 From the Desk of Padre José.. Today s readings really set a theme for the rest of our week. We are celebrating Catholic Schools Week all throughout the nation. The gift of all our Catholic schools through all these years has had a major impact in our culture and society. It is where leaders are formed at a very early age in their lives. One of the most important things, in my opinion, is the fact that Catholic Schools are a ministry of the parishes. They used to be known in the past as Parochial Schools in order to identify their identity with the parish. Our own parish school, St. Charles, is very much identified with the ministry and the mission of St. Charles parish. WE are a team with the parents, parish, teachers, and staff forming the young students to be disciples of Jesus Christ. It is through the teaching and the practice of the academic life of the students that we hope and pray they will learn about the dignity of being sons and daughters of God who are called to be caretakers of the many gifts and talents the Lord has given them. Let us take a moment to give thanks to the Lord for the gift of our St. Charles school. May we intentionally take this week to thank the Lord for the gift of the present students. I am so proud of our students and our teachers and staff. They really are committed to the mission of the Church in our school. Thank you for being an example of commitment and dedication. Fraternally, Fr. José Be at Peace, God Will Provide Del Escritorio del Padre José..

Page Four St. Charles Borromeo Church The 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time School Nondiscrimination Policy The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color, national origin, and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex, or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies and practices, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single-sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student's emotional, academic, and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student's needs.

Page Five St. Charles Borromeo Church January 27, 2019 Safeguard the Children REPORTING ABUSE/MISCONDUCT It is important to communicate your concerns if you observe anyone interacting with a child in an inappropriate manner. Parents, family members, teachers, clergy and all who work with or are responsible for the care of children need to remember that speaking up is one of the most important things they can do to protect not just their own children, but all children. Voicing your concerns is critical to protecting God s children. Any incident of abuse or misconduct should be immediately reported. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS article, Are We Communicating our Concerns?, please visit http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/pages/virtus-current-online-articles.aspx. Are We Communicating our Concerns? ( Estamos comunicando nuestras preocupaciones?), visita http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/pages/virtus-current-online-articles.aspx.
