Our Mission Statement We, the faith community of Saint Clement parish, of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, established in Dartmouth in 1955 and, truly rooted in the Catholic faith, proclaim our belief in the message and mission of Jesus Christ. We are committed to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. We seek to live out this belief as a community of worship, of shared faith and of service where each member shares with others the gifts and talents received from God. We seek to develop and encourage a community of faith open to responding in kind to the abundant love of God and to the needs of our parishioners and neighbouring community through our proclamation of the Gospel and giving witness to it through our lives and our participation in the sacraments centering our lives on the Eucharist. welcoming of all parishioners, existing and newcomers, with open arms and without judgment. reaching out with love and compassion to those in need. embracement of activities that build and strengthen the present and future foundations of our faith, including evangelization, education, liturgy, ecumenism and the spiritual, economic and social development of all people. 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time January 27th, 2019 From Father Gerald. Third Sunday of Ordinary Time This Sunday we reflect with the Word of God about Jesus filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee. Jesus ministry of teaching and preaching were the ways in which he formed the people that gathered. Formation for each and every Christian is important, formation in the Truth of what we believe as Christ s followers. For each of us, Reading the Sacred Scriptures and studying what has been handed down to us in Sacred Tradition is essential. We can no longer presume that everyone knows what we believe. We live in a world that is so infiltrated with individualism, and in a society that is so immersed in secular ways, ways that are quite different from God s. It is incumbent on each Parish, each Church, each Community of believers, to insist upon right teaching and good faith formation. Scripture and Tradition are the two pillars upon which we must rely for good foundation. Tuesday Evening Mass For those who celebrate Mass throughout the week here at Saint Clement, we have moved the Tuesday evening Mass to ½ hour earlier. Mass is now at 6:30pm. With the exception of the fourth Tuesday of the month, where we gather for mass at 12noon. New Parishes/ Stronger Together Two members from each of our Parishes have been asked to participate in our Transitional Team. Saint Andrew Parish Cathy Patriquin and John Stevens; Saint Clement Parish Anne James and Don Inkpen. A meeting is being planned for February where we discuss the various realities and elements of the formation of the Parish Leadership Team as well as other facets of Parish life as we begin our journey together as one Parish and three communities of Faith. I invite each of you to read and pray with the documents made available; Equip the Saints and Community of Missionary Disciples: Qualities of a New Healthy Parish. We have made both documents available on our webpage (click on Documents) for easy access for those who have a computer. A few copies will be available in the Church for those who do not have access to a computer. In the beginning of working toward one Pastoral Council a couple of members from each present Church Pastoral Council will meet together to review and reflect upon the way of forming the new Pastoral Council for the one Parish. New Parish Teams Baptism Preparation Team We are seeking members from each Saint Andrew and Saint Clement who would be willing to be part of a Baptismal Preparation Program. This team would be ministering to families who come forward requesting the Sacrament of Baptism for their children. It would be great to have 4-6 people who would be willing to come forward from each community. Please speak with Fr. Gerald or Fr. Peter after one of the Sunday Masses or call the Parish Office Saint Andrew (902) 461-1987 or Saint Clement (902) 469-1203 indicating your interest to assist with this ministry. Once we have a sufficient number of people willing to assist, we will offer a time of formation together for, Saint Andrew and Saint Clement. Page 2

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION Corinne will be back this weekend from her trip to the Holy Land. We will have our community session this Sunday, January 27, from 1-2:30pm in the parish hall. February 13, Corinne will be offering a DVD course titled, "An Introduction to the Theology of the Body: Discovering the Master Plan for Your Life". This is an 8 session study, with Christopher West, designed to give you a solid understanding of God's plan for humanity - a plan stamped right in our bodies. Christopher West is recognized around the globe for his work promoting St. John Paul II's vision of human life, love and sexuality, known as the Theology of the Body. In this study you will learn; Why God created us male and female, why the redemption of our sexuality is the key to happiness, God's purpose and plan for our lives, and much more. There is a workbook that is required for this course, so if interested you need to register in order to have it when we begin, which will be on Monday evenings at 7 pm and Wednesday mornings after 9am Mass (same sessions as Mondays). PRAYER FOR OUR NEW PARISHES Heavenly Father, In this time of transition, sustain our efforts to become better equipped for the New Evangelization, Give us the courage and insight to take on the task of purification and renewal for a more credible Church. Grand us the knowledge and understanding to respond to the call of pastoral conversion and the demands for a more missionary expression of Christian discipleship for our time. May your Holy Spirit release in us the gift of wisdom necessary to make of our new parishes: centres of evangelical outreach and united communities of communities; welcoming centres of prayer and learning; ministry and worship; and environments of healing, reconciliation and care of the poor. Provide for us clergy and laity skilled in leadership, to guide this transformative journey of faith. We ask all this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. A copy of this prayer is available on a prayer card at the back of the church. We encourage you to pick one up and pray for our parishes throughout this year of transition. THANK YOU We, the members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP), Saint Clement Conference, would like to take this opportunity to offer our most sincere thank you to you, the parishioners of Saint Clement. We are the little church that can and does do what is necessary to assist those in need in our community. This past Christmas, with your support, SSVP made Christmas a little more joyous for 34 families. In 2018, in addition to the Christmas Hamper campaign, SSVP delivered groceries to 1132 children and adults. We have an amazing group of dedicated volunteers who respond to those in need in our community. In saying that, we could not do what we do without you. You keep our shelves stocked with your incredibly generous support. We thank you for enabling us in such a meaningful cause and we look forward to your continued support. Page 4

The constant temperature changes combined with the heavy rains and the lack of snow cover is causing havoc with the stones and its going to get worse. We currently have a foot of frost. if we get more heavy rains and quick freezes more stones will fall over. Please remember to be careful not to lean on the stones and please do not try to pick them up. All the stones that fall over this winter will be righted in the spring once the frost is gone from the ground.
