January 13, 2019 ~ Feast of the Baptism of the Lord A Message From Our Pastor I believe everybody knows this scene from the Gospels. Jesus Christ, the dove descending on Him the Holy Spirit and the voice from heaven the Father. It is a perfect revelation of the Holy Trinity. All of us have been immersed in this Mystery of Faith. I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. It seems to be so simple. Water, short sacramental words and everything is changed. But, there is more that comes from it. Do we realize that during our baptism our God is present and through Him this sacrament happens? He places himself into our hearts and makes it a dwelling place for himself. You are my beloved son. By Jesus Christ we became the children of God. In baptism, each one of us received an invitation to be with God. Sadly, so many of our brothers and sister say no to this call. This Sunday we should keep them in our prayers. Very often, they don t know what they have lost. At the same time, we have to pray for ourselves, so that we will fulfill the call of being beloved sons and daughters of God. In Christ's Peace, Fr. Pax Christi Parish ~ Winter 2019 Adult Faith Formation Offerings The Path: Understanding & Deepening Your Faith, Part II Do you wonder if there is more to the Catholic Faith than what you are receiving? Do you put the time into coming to Mass on Sundays, but often leave feeling uninspired and maybe even confused? This Study seeks to help Catholics get on the path to better understanding their Faith and through this understanding gain a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. The Path, Part II dives into topics such as The Church, The Mass, and the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and The Eucharist). Do you know what you believe and why you believe it? Meeting Information: The Study Group will continue to meet on Tuesday evenings, beginning January 15 th from 6:30-7:30pm. There is no charge for this study. Peter: Cornerstone of Catholicism The character of St. Peter is both inspiring and confounding to many of us. How could a stubborn and impulsive fisherman become the rock upon which Jesus would build his Church? Bringing together biblical accounts, historical evidence, Church teaching, classical art, and personal insights, Dr. Tim Gray gives a fresh perspective on Simon Peter that is immediately informative and relevant to our lives. After all, if Jesus could bring out the very best in someone like Peter, then there is hope for the rest of us. Meeting Information: The Study Group will meet on Tuesday mornings, beginning January 15 th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. There are 10 Sessions in this Study. There is a $12 charge for the Study Guide. James: Pearls for Wise Living James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These teachings speak loudly to all of those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith. This study offers pearls for wise living by applying the wisdom of James to the present day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances. Meeting Information: Thursday afternoons, beginning January 17 th, from 11:30am 1:00pm. There are 10 sessions in this Study. The cost of the Study Guide and online video access is $25. For more information about any of these offerings, please contact Ginger Giesen, Director of Adult Catechesis at jgiesen@paxchristi.org or 720-419-0126. ** Registration prior to the beginning of each of the Studies is important to be sure all materials and space are available. We Serve God by Serving Others Pax Christi Outreach Ministries Christ has no body now on earth but ours; no hands but ours; no feet but ours. Ours are the eyes through which the compassion of Christ must look out on the world. Ours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good. Ours are the hands with which He is to bless His people. Lord, help us to truly be your disciples. Holy Spirit, guide our eyes, our hands, our feet, and our hearts as we serve your people. ~ adaptation of the Prayer of Saint Teresa of Avila Whether it s a meal for a grieving family, a bagged lunch for the homeless, a prayer for the sick, a prayer shawl for the suffering, food for the hungry, or financial support for the struggling, the Outreach Ministries at Pax Christi serve those who are in need in our parish and in our community. Visit the Information Wall in the Great Hall or our Pax Christi website to learn more about how these ministries positively impact the lives of all God s children. Music Ministry Yes, this is a Sunday during the Christmas season, and carols should be sung. I was careful to avoid carols and hymns which speak of the infant Christ (the Gospel has him grown and preaching already). Joy to the World is a great carol with which to end the Christmas season. Christmas decorations and flowers should still be a part of the atmosphere. Nothing hinders the delineation of a season more than "fuzzy" boundaries. For most people, Christmas is a children s holiday and a time for adults to return to the innocence of their childhood. The emphasis in both secular and religious imagery on the Christ-child in Bethlehem reinforces this idea. However, the Christmas feast of the Baptism of the Lord counterbalances that notion. It reminds us that the child born in a manger becomes an adult on a mission, and that mission will eventually lead not only to a feast filled with rich food and choice wine (next week s wedding at Cana), but to suffering and death. This is one reason why it is important that we mark this Sunday as the final day of Christmas. This weekend, Fr. Marek has chosen the option of having a Sprinkling Rite at Mass during the Penitential Rite. This ritual helps us recall the grace of our own baptism as we renew our baptismal promises. As we memorialize the baptism of Jesus today, let us also remember that our commitment to these promises calls us to participate in Christ s mission and paschal mystery. There are two antiphons for the rite of sprinkling. A closer look at the one used outside of the Easter season provides for a good meditation: I will poor clean water upon you, and you will be made clean of your impurities, and I shall give you a new spirit, says the Lord. Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Friday, January 25th at 6:00 p.m. All Pax Christi volunteers and their families are invited to our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner! This is an opportunity for Fr. Marek and the parish staff to thank all our ministers for their hard work and dedication to our parish. Join us in the hall for an evening filled with fun and laughter. Dinner will be provided with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Please RSVP to Joanne at 303-799-1036 or jlafond@paxchristi.org. We look forward to seeing you there! Couples Night CALLING ALL COUPLES! Whether you ve been married 50 years or 50 days, please join us! Our next Pax Christi Couples Night is Friday, January 18th. Join us from 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. in the Great Hall at Pax Christi for food, fun, and fellowship. We will have some fun activities, then we will watch and discuss an episode from the acclaimed marriage enrichment series Beloved: Finding Happiness in Marriage. Babysitting and beverages will be provided. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Pray the Rosary Knights of Columbus Stewardship Award for Graduating Seniors The Knights are offering a 4-year scholarship of $750 per year ($3,000 total) to a graduating high school senior registered as a member of Pax Christi Parish. The applicant shall be an active member in the church and/or community during the 2018/ 2019 school year. The Knights wish to encourage the youth of Pax Christi Parish to find value and reward in living a life of stewardship and in helping others beyond their high school years. Scholarship criteria and applications are available upon request by sending an email to alanb840@gmail.com or calling Alan at 720-560-3357. The applicant must file a complete application to be received no later than March 8, 2019. If you have any questions please contact Alan Brown at 720-560-3357. Starting this month, we will pray a Rosary each weekend, 20 minutes before the start of Mass. Please consider arriving early so we may pray to our Blessed Mother. And, if you have a special intention, this is the perfect time to come and ask Our Blessed Mother for her help with taking our prayer requests to her son, our Lord Jesus Christ. We are looking for parishioners to help lead the Rosary at each Mass, please contact Shannon and Gloria McCubbin at 303-886-4398, if you are interested. The Fifteen Promises of the Blessed Mother for Praying the Rosary 1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive signal graces. 2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the rosary. 3. The rosary shall be a powerful armour against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. 4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will left them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means. 5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the rosary, shall not perish. 6. Whoever shall recite the rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life. 7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. 8. Those who are faithful to recite the rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise. 9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the rosary. 10. The faithful children of the rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven. 11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary. 12. All those who propagate the holy rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities. 13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all advocates of the rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death. 14. All who recite the rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only son Jesus Christ. 15. Devotion of my rosary is a great sign of predestination. Feast of the Baptism of the Lord - 4 - January 13, 2019

Help End Corporate Funding of Planned Parenthood The United States Congress lost its opportunity to defund the abortion giant, Planned Parenthood, with the changes in leadership as a result of the November 2018 elections. As pro-life consumers we can still make a difference in keeping hard-earned dollars out of the coffers of the billion dollar abortion industry. Did you know American corporations financially support the pro-abortion agenda? Unbeknownst to most of us, purchases of goods and services from our favorite companies and the donations we make to well- known, charitable organizations 'behaving badly' may be funding the pro-abortion agenda. In the weeks to come watch for postings about the "Corporate Funding Project/ Boycott List" spearheaded by Life Decisions International and how you and your family can help stop indirectly funding Planned Parenthood. Each time we will list a few of the corporations that are currently a boycott target due to their financial support of Planned Parenthood and a few of the non-profits. While not technically boycott targets - one should be aware of the non-profits linked to Planned Parenthood's agenda - directly or indirectly. For details and more information contact Mike and Denise McGinnis at michaelmcginnisco@comcast.net or 303-814-3990. Intercessory Prayer That every unborn child may be brought safely to the waters of baptism, and to the joy of hearing the Good News of salvation. We pray to the Lord. J.O.Y. Ministry (Nursing Home and Homebound Communion) Ministry Leader and Communion Ministers Needed The J.O.Y. Ministry brings communion to the homebound and those in nursing homes. We need a leader to coordinate the ministry and distribution schedule. We are also in need of ministers to distribute communion to our brothers and sisters who cannot attend Mass. Please contact the Parish Office if you can help with this important ministry. ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN! Enrollment for Kindergarten/Preschool is underway and students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis! Registration packets are available on the bulletin board in the Hall or at http://skdschool.paxchristi.org. Please contact our school director, Mandi Lupher, with questions or to schedule a tour at 720-419-0128 or mlupher@paxchristi.org. Pax Christi Parish Ministries Retreat Saturday, February 2, 2019 Fr. Marek and the Pax Christi Stewardship Committee invite all Parish Ministry Leaders and Volunteers to join us for a Day of Reflection on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Over the past couple years, we have started to bring all parish ministries together on a regular basis to learn more about our Catholic faith, get to know each other better, and spend time in reflection on how we can grow closer to Jesus through our ministries work in His Name. We ll provide more details as the date approaches, along with a call for RSVP s. For now, we ask you to save February 2nd on your calendar and spread the word to those who participate in our ministries. Pax Christi Catholic Church - 5 - Littleton, CO
