MARK 10:25 Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities. Please pray for the repose of the souls of: Frank Randazzo, uncle of Ed Randazzo Dolores Arendt, mother of Ken Arendt Robert Thornhill C. Ronald Neupert, father of Mary Beth Ohlms, and grandfather of Michelle Camac May their soul rest in our Lord s eternal embrace. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "I (pray) like children who do not know how to read, I say very simply to God what I wish to say, without composing beautiful sentences, and He always understands me." St. Therese of Lisieux We don t have to be Biblical scholars or theologians in order for prayer to be deeply meaningful. Prayer is, quite simply, relationship with God. It s the way we both talk and listen to Him. It s the dialogue, the language, of the heart. When we become as children in our simplicity, there is no need for complex thinking when we pray. In this way, prayer becomes easy and constant. If you are interested in becoming an adorer OR substitute please call Jennifer @ 636-940- 9858 or Jan @ 636-947-4654. The hours needed to be filled are Tuesday 1am & 2am and Wednesday 3am. Thank you! Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Our next meeting is this Tuesday, October 16 th at 7:00 pm in the Hall. OUR NEXT BAPTISM PREPA- RATION CLASS: WILL BE OCTOBER 17 AT 7:00 PM Please remember: our next Baptism preparation class will be Tuesday, October 17, 7:00 PM in our Duchesne Room. We ask parents who wish to have their children baptized in the near future and who have not participated in such a session in the last three years to attend. Please phone or email Deacon Mark to let us know that you will be coming. What a great opportunity for you to better appreciate the gift you wish to bestow on your child!

THE PROFOUND WISDOM OF THE COMIC STRIPS: It s a long-standing tradition to offer the blessing of pets on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4. This tradition goes back to his Canticle of Creation in which he praises God for all that is. Though we are ten days past his feast day, I offer you the prayer below that you may use if you wish to bless your own pet goldfish, cat, dog, hermit crab or whatever. However, did you ever think about how you can learn something from your pet? Please notice the last line of this comic strip, Amazing how hard they have to work to be like us. Isn t this to some degree what Jesus says: Do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, What are we to eat? or What are we to drink? or What are we to wear? All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom [of God] and his righteousness, * and all these things will be given you besides. (Matt. 6:27-33) A BLESSING FOR YOUR ANIMALS? HERE YOU GO COMPLIMENTS OF P.E.T.A. S WEBSITE Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. On the fifth and sixth days of creation, you called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all animals his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this animal. By the power of your love, enable [him or her] to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen. TODAY, COVENANT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2018: In preparing for this special weekend as last year, we have been mentioning the word Covenant. Dave Baranowski, the Archdiocese s Director of Stewardship Education, regularly points out that this word covenant is implies a sacred and holy bond with God and encourages a personal relationship with Him, rather than something that feels forced, coerced or obligated to do. On a much more personal level, to me the word covenant means joined lives, and the image I like most to use about covenant is packet of Koolaid ripped open and its contents gloriously absorbed into the bounty of the water so that both elements, the water and the solid powder, the liquid and the dry, the colored and the colorless, all are inseparably joined to each other. God desires such a blending. Even though you probably completed your Covenant Card at Mass today, please be sure that you keep his thoughts in mind as you fulfill the covenant you are making with God today. Please note as well that the members of our Stewardship Committee are intending to have all the tabulation completed for today s Covenant Sunday by next Sunday! That s a big pledge by them, but they hope to get us known and functioning in our various as soon as possible. NEW LIGHTHOUSE CD: IRRESISTABLE JOY Scott Hahn reminds us that we can all share the Gospel by spreading it joy. The world offers countless pleasures, but only Christ can offer lasting joy which we all find irresistible. The more we enjoy being Catholic, the more contagious our faith will be and the more we will win back the fallen away for Christ.

A MISSIONARY UPDATE FROM MELANIE JORGENSON My dear fellow parishioners, Thank you from the bo om of my heart for all of the support and prayers you have sent my way. Know that I carry you all with me daily as I strive to serve and to love as Christ did. Life here at the Finca has been especially chao c lately, as September was a month filled with special occasions. Within our missionary community, we celebrated 3 birthdays last month. The Finca as a whole also celebrated Day of the Child with a fiesta and communal lunch and commemorated Independence Day with a beau ful parade. We welcomed 5 visitors (including our Founder Zulena!) and celebrated the bap sms of 13 children from the surrounding villages (4 of whom are now my godchildren!!). And now we are preparing to welcome 4 new missionaries and a missionary family into our community this evening. Last month, I was also asked to officially state my intent to renew my contract for another year or to leave the Finca in January at the end of my current contract. I made the decision to return to the U.S. in January a er finishing my contract. This decision was, for me, one of the most difficult I've ever had to make because I want so much to con nue serving here for another year, but I know in my heart that this is not what God is asking of me. And it is s ll very bi ersweet - bi er because my heart breaks at the thought of saying "see you soon" to so many people I've grown to love so much and sweet because returning to the U.S. means coming back to my St. Cletus parish family. I humbly ask for your prayers as I take this leap of faith and trust that whatever God has in store for me next is be er than anything I could dream for myself. Having made the decision to end my me in Honduras, I am now no longer in need of funds to con nue my mission. However, I humbly ask that you consider a con nued commitment to support this work of love - both financially and through prayer. If you are able/willing to contribute financially, please make your dona ons to Ruthie Gross or Emily Wilson, two of my fellow missionaries. These incredible women have taught me the meaning of childlike joy and have shown me what it means to give the gi of presence and affirma on. Both have courageously made the decision to serve for another year, but neither has experienced the same level of support and generosity from her home parish as I have received from you. I s ll cannot thank you enough for being God's provision for my needs and for covering me in prayer daily. I will be home on vaca on for just 3 days this month, so I will probably not see most of you un l January. But un l then, please know of my love and prayers for all of you, my fellow missionaries. In Christ, Melanie Jorgenson Missionary, Farm of the Child (2015-2018) P.S. If you wish to learn more about what my friends Ruthie and Emily are doing, please visit Emily Wilson at h p://www.farmo hechild.org/emily-w.html and Ruthie Gross at h p://www.farmo hechild.org/ruth.html. 28thSunday in Ordinary Time October 14, 2018 This article is from the September 17th issue of America. I don t offer it to deny the importance of this matter but to offer perspective. While one may be tempted to leave the Church in light of this issue, doing so makes as little sense to me as leaving one s US citizenship in light of the controversy surrounding the Senate s handling of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation. Any controversy no matter what really calls us to be our best selves. Fr. Jim Benz
