Pastor Kari has requested and been granted a personal leave of absence for reasons unrelated to her duties at Lord of Life. To allow Kari an opportunity to truly get away, we ask that there be no contact with her at this time. Cards may be sent to the church office at the above address. At an appropriate time they will be passed along to her. How can we as a Congregation support Kari? - Pray. - Continue to worship. - Consider an additional monetary donation to cover the un-budgeted costs incurred during this time. - Say "yes" when asked to help out. If there is need for pastoral support during Kari's absence, please contact the church. Local pastors will respond to these needs. Plans for the upcoming church year are under way and will not be affected. Our prayer is that, with God s help, Kari will return to find us strong and carrying out the mission of Lord of Life. Adult Education February Adult Education Get to Know Our Roman Catholic Friends Better Nicole Wooldridge February 3, 10, 17 and 24th This series will be a conversation with Nicole Wooldridge. She will share about some of the many things we have in common with our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ. These classes will give us the opportunity to develop greater understanding and appreciation of the Roman Catholic tradition, faith, and theology. There are far more things which unite us than divide us, especially in the most important area concerning Jesus Christ. Nicole will discuss misconceptions Lutherans and Catholics often hold about one another, as well as the different theological emphases in each tradition. She will also explain the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching, an area of Catholic theology which she has studied in-depth. Nicole has a degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame. She is a practicing Roman Catholic who has a deep love and understanding of her faith. She is also the wife of Eric Wooldridge who is the Associate Pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, WA and she shares her husband's love for the Lutheran tradition. Nicole and Eric consider it a privilege to attend both Catholic and Lutheran worship services each week. Parenting in the Pew March 3, 10, 17 and 24 th This four week series is designed in particular to support parents who are now worshipping with their children as well as those who have parented, who are a part of the family of Lord of Life and our children, have grandchildren or may have children in the future. The kick-off of this four week series will be a talk on The Household Center for Faith Formation On March 10 th and 17 th, Dietrich Baker will share the book Parenting in the Pew. He will focus on why we teach children to worship and an exploration of the suggestions made in the book. The last Sunday in March will feature a panel of Lord of Life parents leading an open discussion of challenges and successes they have experienced while Parenting in the Pew. Hopefully an outcome of this series will be a development of a group of parents who will read the book and spend a few Sundays in discussion either at Lord of Life or over coffee at Starbucks! Building Challenge Nears Its Goal Thank you! Thanks you! To date we have received donations totaling $3773 toward the $4000 needed to cover the cost of energy improvements to the Church building. If you haven t already done so, please consider making a donation to the Energy Improvement Fund and giving your Church the gift of energy savings in 2013! For each $20 collected a sticker will be place on the roof of the Church Poster in the Sanctuary. Help us cover the roof!!! Volunteer Appreciation Thank you to Jim Burnett for replacing the burned out light bulbs in the cove and ceiling of the sanctuary it s not an easy job! Thank you to Peggy Adams for seeing a job that needed to be done and doing it! She spent time on three separate days cleaning corners in the kitchen of cobwebs and scrubbing counters and under the sinks. A job long overdue! New Day for Midweek Lunches The Midweek lunches are moving back to the 1 st Wednesday of each month. The next lunch is scheduled for February 6 th at noon. Anyone who is available at that time is welcome to join in the food and fun. The food is provided on a rotating basis by the attendees. Please sign up on the Narthex bulletin board if you can bring part of the meal or help with set up and clean up. Lunch is followed by fellowship and playing cards or games.

Lord of Life Book Club For February 25, we are to read "The Revised Fundamentals of Care Giving: a Novel" by Jonathan Evison. We'll gather at 7 p.m. at Miki Willa's home. Miki's phone is 206-940-1151. For March 26, which is a Tuesday, we are reading "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain. We will meet at Luther's Table in downtown Renton (across from Renton High School). For those who want to come early and eat together we will meet around 6pm. Following dinner, we will have our book club meeting at 7 p.m. Please let me know if you'll be attending. Blessings, Evelyn Caring Ministry Update Welcome to our new members Karl & Lauralee Kunder, Emily & Mike Erdahl, and Jill Thomas! As new additions to our Lord of Life family, please freely join in; you are welcome in whatever way you choose to participate. If you need more information, please ask Pastor Kari, any Ministry Chair, or the person sitting next to you on Sunday morning! Home-delivered meals are one way Lord of Life members care for each other. If you would like to receive meals, talk to Pastor Kari, Dianne Johnson, or Cindy Smith, Caring Chair. If you would like to volunteer to provide meals, see Cindy or watch the Volunteer Needs bulletin board on the door. Galatians 6:10 - Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Cindy Smith, Chair Outreach Ministry Each year the Outreach Ministry Committee designates, with congregational input, a Benevolence of the Month for each of the twelve months. This year there is no change in the twelve Benevolences selected, although the order has been rearranged to better match our Outreach and other congregational activities throughout the year. The term benevolence means "a disposition to do good; an act of kindness; a generous gift". What an excellent term to use for our designated giving each month! The donations you make to the Benevolence of the Month are passed directly to that organization. You can easily designate whatever you chose to give on the "Benevolence of the Month" line on the church giving envelopes or on your check, if you do not use an envelope. If you do not have giving envelopes and would like them, please check with Marci Allen in the church office. For the month of February the Benevolence of the Month is: ARISE (Area of Renton Interfaith Shelter Endeavor) Once again this year, during the month of March, four Lutheran congregations will join together to provide shelter and meals for 15-25 homeless men in the Renton area. The February Benevolence of the Month contributions will enable us to purchase the perishable food supplies needed in March and go to support the ARISE program. You can also help by volunteering to provide and serve a dinner or pack lunches. Please watch for the opportunity to sign up to be part of our ARISE participation. Thank you for the many generous money and food donations for the Salvation Army Renton Rotary Food Bank in January. Although the Renton Food Bank was highlighted as the Benevolence of the Month in January, our food collection is on going throughout the year. As you head to church each Sunday, please remember to grab a little (or not so little) something from your pantry shelf to put in the basket in the narthex. The next Outreach Ministry Committee meeting will be February 27th at 7 PM. Please join us! Judy Hart, Chair 425-255-7670
