WELCOME TO PICTOU UNITED CHURCH Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity B.A., B.Th., M.Div. David & Shelley Pos: Ministry of Music www.pictouunited.com January 27 th, 2019 Third Sunday after Epiphany Between two words choose the quieter one. Between word and silence choose listening. Between two books choose the dustier one. Between the earth and the sky choose a bird. Between two animals choose the one who needs you more. Between two children choose both. Between the lesser and the bigger evil choose neither. Between hope and despair choose hope: it will be harder to bear. Decisions - Boris Novak Music to Gather Us Welcome & Announcements We Gather in Community As the music begins, we are invited to prepare ourselves for worship. Gathering Words ~ Moment To Pause Before us each day lie challenges, opportunities, possibilities. The choices we make craft us into who we are becoming. Today, may we ever open our eyes to the newness of our days. May we sense the surge of wonder just beneath the surface of the ordinary. May we be reminded of God s constant presence. May we find wisdom and meaning in each breaking moment. New life; Renewed energy; Deepening faith. As the Christ Candle Is Lit, We Sing In this moment, in this place, all is wonder, all is grace. In this moment, in this place, hope awaits... In this moment, in this place peace awaits. In this moment, in this place joy awaits. In this moment, in this place love awaits. words & music by Trisha Watts ~ Seasons of the Spirit 2012-13 2
We Are Gathered Together We are not alone, we live in God s world. Let us worship our God; source of all love. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new. Let us worship the Christ; love incarnate who works in us and others, by the Spirit. Let us worship the Spirit; love s power. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. adapted from our United Church Creed Hymn Your Love Is Amazing More Voices 26 We Are Gathered in Prayer What separates privilege from entitlement is gratitude. Brene Brown In gratitude, we pause and open ourselves to the goodness of this day; For the goodness of life; For the goodness of God around and within. We need no tower rising skyward; no house of wood, or glass, or stone. Come build a church with human frailty, come build a church of flesh and blood. Jesus shall be its sure foundation.
