Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish Waltham/Lexington Congratulations to Elizabeth Smith, Nancy Saenpraseuth and Kham Saenpraseuth on receiving their Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers on this new phase of their lives. ST. VINCENT DEPAUL The food collection is the third weekend each month. Some suggested items are: cereal, children s snacks, peanut butter, jelly, mayonnaise, small canned hams, cans of stew, spaghetti sauce, coffee, hot chocolate, bars of soap and toilet tissue. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. A statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the sanctuary of our church is forthcoming as announced by Fr. DiPerri at all weekend Masses last week. A statue has not been selected or ordered but will be in the next few months as a desire to further enhance our sacred space. The location is on the blank brick wall above the baptismal font, opposite side of the Blessed Mother statue. A statue of the Sacred Heart is significant in portraying our Lord s love for each of us and our quest to follow him. Our Lord appeared in several visions to many Saints over the centuries. Jesus shows his Sacred Heart in order that we may be drawn into his loving presence. PERFECT GIFT 1000 CLUB The perfect gift for that hard to buy for person. Memberships are $55 per year. Our next drawing is Sunday, April 12 at 12:30pm in the school cafeteria. JOIN TODAY!!! Name: Address: Phone: Fill out and return to Sharon in the parish office. 4 Easter Sunday

Waltham/Lexington Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish SPECTACULAR CONCERT EVENT KOINONIA ACADEMY CONCERT CHOIR Join us on Monday, April 20 at 6:30pm in Our Lady s Church for a night with the Koinonia Academy Concert Choir from Plainfield, New Jersey. Enjoy an hour long presentation of uplifting music, skits and faith sharings. A free will offering will be taken. For more information, please contact Thomas Appert, 908-868-4976 or tappert@koinoniaacademy.org or Susan Minogue, 908-612 -2612 or sminogue@koinoniaacademy.org Buongiorno! From Our Lady s Academy Italian Teacher Alessandra Sambiase The students of Italian at Our Lady s Academy have been focused and have truly enjoyed their studies since the beginning of the school year. It is always a great pleasure for me to see how much they value the importance of learning this beautiful language and it makes me so very proud of them, year after year. The highlight of the Italian program at Our Lady s Academy this year was our trip to Italy that some of the Middle School Italian students and their parents took during February vacation along with myself and a few Teachers. This wonderful educational trip took them to Venice, Padua, Florence, Pisa, Assisi and Rome with the additional daytrip to an olive oil mill nestled in the Tuscan hills. Timing worked out well for us in Venice as we got there just as the Carnevale (Carnival) festivities were happening so the students had the chance to see the traditional Venetian costumes and masks parade through Piazza San Marco (St. Mark s square). We also visited and admired the stunning rooms and façade of the Dogi s Palace as well as the mosaics and Byzantine architecture of the Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark s Basilica). A fun gondola ride brought us along the many canals of this very unique city where we were also able to see a glass blowing demonstration. The unforgettable taste of the Carnevale fritters and hot cocoa sold the local pastry shops gave us a real sense of how wonderful life is in Venice. In Padua we admired the Basilica di Sant Antonio (St. Anthony s basilica) where we prayed and visited the crypt holding the relics of the Saint. Assisi was also a wonderful place for the students to visit as they walked through the medieval streets of this Holy city ending at the Basilica di San Francesco (St. Francis Basilica) where fresco scenes of the life of the Saint are depicted and his burial site is a sacred place of pilgrimage. In Florence we marveled at the massive Duomo and visited the Academia museum, the Church of Santa Croce where Michelangelo's tomb is located and the stunning Piazza della Signoria. We had the pleasure to taste authentic Tuscan food and to take an evening passeggiata (stroll) down the streets of this marvelous Renaissance city eating a gelato (ice-cream) just like Italians do. In Rome, the students visited the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican Museums along with other main sites of cultural interest and even had the memorable experience to attend the Ash Wednesday Papal audience in St. Peter s square, seeing Pope Francis up close and receiving his blessing. What a wonderful opportunity we had! Needless to say that the memories of this trip will be treasured for a lifetime by both Our Lady s Academy students and their parents. April 5, 2015 5

The cost is $250 for a year. If interested, contact Sharon in the parish office. CATECHISM CORNER Charity Waltham/Lexington Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. Jesus makes charity the new commandment. By loving his own to the end, he makes manifest the father s love which he receives. By loving one another, the disciples imitate the love of Jesus which they themselves receive. Christ died out of love for us. The Lord asks us to love as he does, even our enemies, to make ourselves the neighbor of those farthest away and to love children and the poor as Christ himself. The practice of all the virtues is animated and inspired by charity, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Charity upholds and purifies our human ability to love and raises it to the supernatural perfection of divine love.
