Page 3 May 28, 2017 Staff Extensions Railroad Crossing Closure CSX Railroad has scheduled closures of various railroad crossings beginning Saturday, May 20, for the next several weeks. The closures are necessary to allow for repairs to be completed on the crossings. The closures require traffic to be rerouted, and signage will direct travelers to the detour routes. Each crossing is expected to be closed for two days. The length of closing is dependent upon weather or other unforeseen issues. The crossing at Harpersville Road is scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31. Support our Parish! Children s Faith Formation Contact Christa at cblomstrom@olmc.org or ext. 107 Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) KidCheck account required. The Nursery is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass for children ages 1-3 years old. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who utilize the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-Op Nursery staffed each Sunday. Back in June! Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) Kingdom Kids Worship provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass on the first, second and third Sunday of the month. Children process out of Mass & return before the Eucharist. Youth Ministry Life Teen Join us on Sunday, June 4 th, for our final Life Teen/ Senior Youth Groups of the year. We ll be playing games, learning, and praying together! All 8 th graders are welcome to come and see what Life Teen is all about, and can meet others who will be growing in faith with them next year. Vocation Retreats Quo Vadis (July 11-14) and Fiat Days (July 26-28) Is your high school teen considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life? Consider sending them to a Diocesan vocation retreat this summer. Quo Vadis is for young men entering 10 th - 12 th grade discerning a call to the priesthood. Fiat Days is for young women in 10 th -12 th grade discerning a call to the religious life. Retreat costs: Quo Vadis - $150, Fiat Days - $125. Young Adults Small Group Book Study May 31 Join other young adults on Wednesdays as we continue learning how to go deeper into mental prayer. We meet in St. Michael Hall at 6:30pm. Upper Room College students and recently graduated high school seniors are invited to Upper Room, a night of fellowship, prayer, and growth in faith, beginning on Monday, June 5, from 7:30pm to 9pm in the Gathering Room at the Church. Our SPRED friends are delighted to be included in the liturgical celebrations at OLMC. As a gesture of gratitude to all, we welcome and encourage you to join us for an agape-a simple sharing of food and fellowship-following the Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our SPRED friends, their families and catechists, and to personally extend your welcome. SPRED (Special Religious Development) prepares persons with intellectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC currently has three SPRED groups (for adults 18 and older) that meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Special Thanks To Our Pregnancy Outreach Volunteers Our Lady of Mt Carmel has an Pregnancy Outreach Office that has a helpline that is available to receive calls from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday and supported by a volunteer donating 40 hours a week. In addition we have teams of volunteers who meet with women, children (and some men) in need, who have chosen life for their child. They provide 15 volunteer hours a week. And to process all of your generous donations we have a volunteer who works over 10 volunteer hours per week. This is amazing! Volunteers answer the phone to schedule appointments, answer questions, provide encouragement, fill out forms to obtain information about the family/individual we are serving, file applications, point out resources that will be of further assistance, and of course provide for the material needs of mother and child. Pregnancy Outreach is a place of joy and celebration of life. Liturgical Ministries Altar Server Training Our seminarian, Chris Masla will be offering three more trainings for NEW altar servers at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 30 th ; Thursday, June 1 st ; and Wednesday, June 7 th. To become an altar server one must 1) have a strong desire to serve at the altar of our Lord, 2) be a practicing Catholic and a registered member of OLMC parish, and 3) have received your First Holy Communion. We are in need of young servers as well as those in middle and high school, as certain responsibilities pertain to those of younger age, while others are more suited to older servers (such as the Sanctus bells and incense). We welcome new altar servers for all Masses, but are especially in need for the Saturday 5:00pm Vigil Mass and the Sunday 8:00am Mass.
