The one day event held on the Orange, CA campus has many strong events for participants to enjoy: The beautiful and inspiring art of the Saint John s Bible, the first hand written and illuminated Bible since the invention of the printing press. We will hear Fr. Eric Hollas, OSB, from Saint John s University, speak on The Artist as Preacher. Preaching by the Rev. Dr. Suzanne Castle, creative worship designer and consultant, from Texas. A luncheon celebrating the Disciples Church Leader of the Year, the Rev. Dr. Bill Thomas. Worship featuring DOC students and the Chapman University Singers. Since 1985 your congregation has gifted CWS with $36,461.54. Many Blessings, Renee Overton, CWS Adult Education Opportunity Starting the week of February 3, a new adult education opportunity will begin. Using the Video Dream/Think/Be/Do prepared by Living the Questions ministry, Joe Quartucci and Joe Perring will moderate a small group experience exploring key ideas of present day Christianity. The course will be offered on campus once a week for five weeks at a time and day to be determined by those expressing interest. The major themes of this initial offering are 1) Faith as Journey, 2) Stories of Creation, 3) Reconciliation, 4) Jesus, and 5) Risk. This is an opportunity to ask and answer important questions like, Does the Bible have relevancy to how I live my life?, Who or what was Jesus?, Where do Progressive Christians fit in our society - or do they at all? What does that look like in today s world? This retreat through stories, contemplative practices, reflection exercises, and group processes will offer an orienting compass to guide a social activism rooted in empowered compassion. His class will use a video conferencing platform so that people can join in the class from home or wherever they are with their computer. If you are new to Progressive Christianity or want to experience a study that challenges you, this study is for you! Kirk is an experienced teacher and knows the material well. This is an amazing opportunity and you are welcome to share it with others who may be interested. Plan now to participate. More information will follow. I believe that is what the God experience does for us.
