KEVIN DENTON Ready or not, here 2019 goes! So, what can we expect? Three words; change, Change, CHANGE! One thing is certain, change is coming. We can make appropriate changes, inappropriate changes, or be run over by the changes coming our way. Here are a few thoughts about change. First, nothing mankind will do in 2019 will catch our Heavenly Father off guard or by surprise. That is a comfort to me. Every new discovery or technology that humankind manages to bring to light was knowledge The Creator gave to be discovered. The next breakthrough in science, technology, medicine, you name it, first came from Him. The way we use the breakthroughs will be liberating or detrimental to all of us. And knowing the nature of humans, the latter is more likely. Second, praise the Lord that change is inevitable. He designed change into every organic (living) and non-organic structure in the universe. So change is the Lord s idea! Maybe that will help us not fight against change quite as much. Third, change means life. Lack of change means certain death. I vote for life giving change. How about you? But, praise the Lord, some things never change. He never changes. His character, attributes, and promises are as fresh today as when He first spoke the worlds into order. His gospel never changes. This is our true north, our steady guide, our central hope, and our life changing message. We as His church must keep our eye on the ball, and our ball is the gospel. For that to remain true in His church each of us must believe it, know it, love it, and share it. Go and make disciples is one of the last things our Lord told us to do as a church and each one of us personally. You will be my witnesses identifies us as a follower of Jesus. Meaning, we as a church will do these things or stop calling ourselves a church started by Jesus. HCBC has adopted a disciple making strategy that is biblically based and must be personally applied. This strategy can be summed up in five words; Come, Connect, Grow, Serve, Go. Practicing these five biblically based commands will identify you as a follower of Jesus. You will find these five words further explained in our bulletin, prayer list, monthly newsletter, Facebook page, and web site. So based on these five gospel centered imperatives what changes do you need to make this year? We will help you make the changes if you wish to be a fully developed follower of Jesus. As you read through this newsletter you will find many opportunities to be involved in all of these five disciple making areas. Here are a few more. Intro to HCBC is a four week study that will give you a great start in understanding who we are, what we believe, why we believe it, and how to get involved. I am leading this four week study beginning Sunday February 3, 9:45 am to 10:45 am in fellowship hall. All the materials you will need are provided. If you are a new member, a new or regular attender, this class is for you. Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God is one of the most life changing studies I have ever gone through. If fact, Experiencing God has gone through me so much I cannot help but think in a different way. This 13 week study is not for the new believer but for the longer time follower of Jesus who is looking for more in their walk with Him. I will be guiding you in this journey beginning Sunday February 17. I will offer as many classes and times to accommodate your schedule as possible. Cost of the workbook is $16.00. Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey is a nine week study in what the bible says about how to organize your finances to be a good steward of all He have given you. Philp West will be your coordinator as you meet weekly, watch a dvd of Dave Ramsey teaching on a the financial topic, and encourage one another toward financial peace. The class begins the week of February 17. This course is normally $130 for an individual or family but for the first seven who sign up the cost is only $85. It will be money well spent! I can hardly wait to see how our Lord will grow His church this year. Come, make this journey with us! In His love, Bro. Kevin

A WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE PASTOR, BRO. SAM NORROD Happy New Year! New Women s Study Beginning January 9th 9:00 am and 6:00 pm Led by Debbie Harlan First of all, I would like to thank everyone that participated in the Christmas program for their hard work. This goes for the choir, tech team, narrators, ushers, parking lot attendants and all those that helped in the kitchen with refreshments after each program. It is hard to believe this is 2019! This past year was a milestone for our church as we celebrated 150 years of ministering to the people of Horse Cave and the surrounding communities. Pollard Baptist Church in Ashland, KY celebrated 126 years and closed it s doors last year. This congregation used to have 1,500 members and was down to 5 last year when they decided to close the doors on May 1. I hope and pray that never happens to Horse Cave Baptist. However, in order for this church to continue to minister, it is the responsibility of the members to invite friends to church where they can hear the gospel and disciple one another. A recent survey published by churchgrowth.org shows the following results from that survey: By Jen Wilkin Beginning January 9th IN THE BEGINNING, GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH. Where did everything come from? Why are we here? Why is the world so broken? How can that brokenness be made right? In it first eleven chapters, the Book of Genesis addresses our deepest questions, declaring to us a transcendent God and shaping our understanding of the Bible as a whole. Join Jen Wilkin as she walks through Genesis 1-11, searching the familiar passages for their larger meaning in the story of Scripture and the life of every believer. In this 10-session video-based Bible study, you will: Cultivate a worshipful understanding of our holy, Creator-God. Explore Genesis as the seed plot of the Bible, the place the redemptive story begins. Let s do our part to keep our church doors from closing in the future by inviting our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family to church on a weekly basis. In Christ, Bro. Sam Walk verse by verse through Genesis 1-11, tracing the themes of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. Practice a method that will help you read any portion of Scripture with greater confidence.
